I've searched and seen plenty of topics on it, but no one gives a definite answer. I know the s14 pumps flow a little better and have an extra bolt. Does that extra bolt affect how well the pump seals? Will the gasket sealer be enough to seal it good? People keep on telling me to use the s14 pump since it's the same price and it's an upgrade. Someone let me know for sure if it'll work. Thanks!

Also, what type of gasket sealer do you use to seal the water pump and thermostat housing, any special kind?

I've spoken to FRSport, and they've told me the S14 waterpump fits the S13, but not the other way around.

I've actually purchased the S14 SR waterpump for my soon-to-be S13 SR, but haven't been able to install it, since I haven't found an engine yet.

Friend has bought 2 and they both fit his S13 Blacktop.

One had a pin hole in it. O.o.

You're saying that both the s13 and the s14 one fit then? What do you mean by pin hole, like it was leaking coolant or something?

What gasket sealant do you guys use, anything specific?

Here's a big thread a while back about S14 pumps and S13 blocks. I ranted on about how the pump will fit, but because of design differences in the block castings, I can't see that the S14 pump would flow any better than an S13 pump. However, if someone can show me some temp data that would prove that the S14 pump is indeed better, I'll get off my soap box.

The extra bolt hole on the S14 is in the sharp bend at the square section to the side. Not a big deal. There are weep holes on every pump, so the pin hole couped up could have been referring to was that?

Also, one thing to consider is this. The whole problem people have ever had with the SR pump is that it spins too fast once you rev the motor up, causing it to cavitate. Look at the blades between the two pumps and they're identical. That means that if you're turning 5000 RPMs, both pumps would be spinning at the same speed, in essence having the same problem. Of course, that's a weak example since I don't know the exact point in which the pump cavitates.

That's a good thread, thanks for the info! I think I'll just stick to the s13 one then, that way I'll know it'll seal up correctly. They do like identical, just the s14 one sticks out a little further. Thanks again!

Also, use any kind of RTV you like. So long as it's good fo rwater and heat, which most RTVs are.

Finally, someone else who agrees with me. Thanks Mack. I mentioned in the linked thread about how the recessed nature of the S14 pump requires the block castings to divert water to the pump fins, which the S13 block lacks those castings since it places the pump wheel closer to the water inlet.

I just always hate coming out saying things so bluntly cause I always figure there's that one person out there who says "ORly?"
