I am recently having trouble getting my car to start.

I had a mechanic who tryed finding the problem for me and so far he has said that my

starterbatteryfuel lines, filter, and pumpspark plugs, wires, timingdistributor cap, rotorignition coil

are all working good. But the car is still not starting. So he has told me that it has got to be my "ignition module" thats giving me the problem.

However i have told other mechanics about this and they had said that if im getting good spark then my ignition module cant be the problem, its gotta be something else. So my question is, what does the ignition module do anyways?

ignition module (aka igniter) recieves the signal from the CAS and momentarily cuts the power to the coils primary windings and thus inducing the high voltage throught the coils secondary windings throught the coil wire, to the cap, arking to the rotor, throught the corosponding spark plug wire, and finally throught the plug and "jumping the gap" to ignite the fuel/air mixture inside the combustion chamber. If it's bad you can still get spark but it might be a weak spark. It did it on my car.

Per 93 FSM, "The ignition signal from the ECM is amplified by the power transistor, which turns the ignition coil primary circuit on and off, inducing hte proper high voltage in the secondary circuit."

This is the closest I could find to "ignition module" in the book.

Sounds like mechanic A is pissing in the wind on the problem. You need to do a spark test on the plugs to see if they are firing. You can get the spark tester at a parts store. Make sure all 4 are giving spark. If they are, you need to check fuel pressure, should be around 34 psi.

Another quick fuel test is to pinch the fuel hose from the fuel filter to the injector rail, and feel for any pressure when cranking the engine. If you don't feel anything, check the fuel pump.

Yes i get a lot of fuel coming out when engine is cranking. I took the hose out, turned the car on and a straight line of fuel came out. The fuel lines are stiff. I dont think its a fuel problem.

Also i have checked all spark plugs and they are giving me good spark. Would that mean my ignition module is perfectly fine then?

If there's good ignition and fuel pressure, then it could be one of the following:- dirty fuel injectors- bad crank angle sensor- ignition timing incorrect

I had an issue of starting also. My car would only click and not even start to turn over. If this is your type of start problem the solution for my car was simply the positive battery harness was bad and would sporadically work or just click.

look for a high authority sensor. check your tach if you start it and the tach doesn't move then you don't have rpm.

RPM is the highest of the authority sensor can't remember whats below that. mostlikely load sensor (map/maf/baro)

Is there a way to test the power transistor?

I've got a similar problem. I have no tach signal during cranking and my fuel pump doesn't shut off after priming or after cranking.

Is my CAS, power transistor, or my main relay bad? Or possibly a combination?
