I was just curious if anyone knew or had tried installing a 94 Q45 Bose head unit into a 92 Q? Some people have told me they are interchangeable but I just want to make sure. The plugs look the same too. I'm looking to possibly put a 94 Bose in my 92 to add the AUX8 pin DIN input for an ipod along with a CD changer...By the way, if it looks like this might work, that brings me to the next issue...I still need to find a 94 Bose along with the Changer....

I'm pretty sure it will, but the better thing to do is get a later model (97-99 or so) Pathfinder or QX4 single in dash CD HU. That will allow you to use the CD for CD's and the CD changer 8 pin DIN for the iPod AuxIn.

You will still need the "adapter cable" (mentioned in previous threads), but otherwise you'll need a splitter/switch to use the CD changer 8 pin DIN for both changer & iPod.

From an earlier thread

Well, my findings:

- Single In-Dash $100 to $150, just gotta watch ebay, the 6 disc I missed one at $165, but most I've seen are north of $200, don't know what SFBay paid for his.

- Physical install, no problem, just watch out for the bracket srews on the side, they've more than likely been there for 12 years.

- Dash removal steps can be found here, pretty easy

- Adapter is required and available from Nissan (part number 24028-3B300), thanks Jesda.

- Mine plays burned cda file CD's (not sure about MP3's, wouldn't think so), but I'm not sure on which CD's exactly.

Hope that answers most of your questions.

The 1994+ HU are Clarion. The CD unit is still in the trunk, but the later G50 had a harness installed for them from the factory.

I believe the harnesses are differently terminated.

Brian is right, to use a 94 HU and changer in a pre 94 Q will require the entire CD changer cable and lots of work.

So a 97-99 Pathfinder or QX4 Bose should fit and has the same plug set up?...i.e. no splicing power or speaker leads? Just bold in and plug in? I'm thinking about abandoning the whole CD thing. I've got parts for this Sony changer but they won't tell me when they will get here, just that it's on back order. I'd rather use the ipod anyway plus a single in dash CD wouldn't hurt. Let me do some more researching...

As always, thanks guys...

No, I believe you will find the connectors are different, so you will have to wire the harness to the new connector.

As mentioned in my previous post, you need an adapter ... the Nissan part number is listed above. You can get it from Joe.

Sorry for any confusion.

I have been told a unit with the DNR button on the bottom right, will plug in using no adapter.

Will do...I'm expecting it sometime today according to the tracking. Everything appears as if it should work. It looks like I may just need to work with mounting a little from what I can tell by other pics of it. As for my Changer repair attempt...i finally got the transistors and soldered them in there...the result...i lost the dash clock, head unit will no longer display anything, antenna won't raise, and the ABS light stays on...scared the heck outta me. Turns out it blew a fuse. Everything back to normal and the changer is hanging in the trunk disconnected forever...

So did you get the new head unit? I've got a 94 Q and woud love to just swap in a later model Bose unit with an in dash CD player.

I swapped in a 99 Pathfinder single In Dash using the Nissan part noted above.

Sorry for the delay. My little so thought hobby/part time Apple Computer/iPod repair side business has become pretty busy these days. Anyway, I did win that auction and have the stereo sitting in the garage. The plugs look identical so I'm really hoping that there won't be any problems. Also, the brackets that's on the sides appears to be reversible. Originally, the bracket was set to attach far deeper in the dash. I flipped it over and from memory, it now looks like the sides of the original Bose. Hopefully, I'll have some spare time in the next few days and try and toss it in there. I'll definitely let you guys know how things turn out...Then I'll need to order that iPod adapter from Shane...

Well, that head unit was complete crap. I got boned by a scam Ebayer. I emailed them but they won't reply. It looked like it was sitting in the bottom of a river from the looks of the boards inside. Completely burned up and parts missing. Just my luck. $70 in the trash. I've taken ya'lls advise and I'm searching for the newer Bose model that will require the adapter. I've emailed Joe about that part but haven't received any reply as of yet. I was just curious how much that thing runs to I can take that into consideration when looking for another stereo.

Duh...found out how to search the part on their site. Looks like about $16. I'm gonna go ahead and order it.

Holy cow does time fly...I know it's been forever but this project is still incomplete and now it's bugging me again. I was just curious if anyone had tried one of the Maxima/Pathfinder CD Cassette Stereos that didn't have that DNR button. I've found several on ebay and was thinking that I really don't need the DNR or AM Stereo anyway. The plugs all look right just the absence of that darn DNR button is bugging me.

I know this may have nothing to do with what your trying to do, but I took the cd changer out of my 94 and just use the ipod connection through the cassette deck. 0 issues so far. I also use a phone clip in the vent and wrapped the white plug behind it. Now when I get in the car all I have to do is plug it in and I can change songs while driving at an excellent reach. Total cost for a great sound $9. Some one came in my car was like, WOW what a cool idea. Easy and cheap.
