You can take the intake manifold off in under an hour. Make sure to get all new coolant, and vacuum lines when you put it back together.s13 drifta wrote:I was thinking about porting my intake runners but now Im going to do it for sure. How long does it take to get the intake manifold off? It looks like a *****.

they looked like 2 little circles inside each runner(in the middle of the cast lines)
damn it I should have taken pics. get a sohc manifold/runners. they have little circular humps in every runner. gheyBigvinnie wrote:

I've removed the SCV's on several other s13's. I use to think that it was apart of smog emissions. Come to find out the scv's are actually for cold weather climate conditions. If in fact you live in a cold climate it can prevent a a solid A/F ratio using the 240/248 cams. The butterfly's are used to heat up the cold air and cause swirl for a better mixture. Living in the Cali bay temperatures don't really fall below 40 degrees so you should be fine. If you lived further up north such as MT SHASTA I would say leave the butterfly's in place.I will be modifying the coolant paths by enlarging them this should help for a better mix in the ratio to heat up the cold air intake charge. If it ever becomes really bad (which it shouldn't in the bay area) you should just always leave the TB coolant lines in tact instead of doing the TB coolant bypass. modification.WWJD wrote:nice work. looks like something that I would like to do to my DOHC. I'm not to familiar wif it yet. Ikonw the SOHC much more better. Bigvinnie by removen' the 2nd-arry (scv) (butterfly valve's) will that hurt emission's out here in the bay area? I've gotta 91' s13. you know how harsh they can be out here. school me man
I know what you talking about now the DOHC's have them too. You just can't see them because they are to deep in the curvature of the runner for me to take a pic.neverlift wrote:damn it I should have taken pics. get a sohc manifold/runners. they have little circular humps in every runner. ghey
