Has anyone had experience with hood closing - affected by weather changes such as heat or cold? Is there a replacement source for the 99 hood lift supports?

Um yes... '94 tho. Just ordered some from Autozone online for mine. I checked with Joe at Infiniti of Scottsdale and they were over $200 each for my car! I don't think so. Autozone had them for about $40 ea.

Here's my story....zerothread?id=238894

Thanks. My research shows aftermarket parts for lift supports up to and including 1996 Q's, but nothing for year 1999. Since this could be a major safety issue, I'm surprised there's no TSB or recall notice. Something for all 99 owners to be concerned about. I carry a prop stick in case I have to work under the hood. Nothing like a 100 lb hood slamming down on you while you're working.

same prob in my '98. whn i priced part from infiniti (over $150 a piece), i was told that they are so expensive because the actual strut is combined with the entire bracket assembly that attaches to the hood. i was told that a generic hood strut would work fine, however, may require very minor mods to make it work. btw, i haven't tried it, i've been going the prop stick route 2

I have the same issue, and had a thread about it last year sometime. After reading you'll see what I've found works best

I put the broom stick back in the garage today! I put on my Autozone hood struts. It was a bolt on job except for one small modification. The lower "nuckle" fit a little different and I had to bend up the metal by the lower ball joint. The kit came with two new ball joints and the new ones have little clips so they go on/off really easy. To get the old ones off you have to unscrew the ball joint with a 12mm end wrench. The new one had threads that matched the OEM bolt but the nut on it was 1/2".

That hood is stiff now! Nice to have it working reliably again. I've been a little on edge everytime I get under the hood since my hand got slammed under it.

Congrads, but the G50 hood shocks are longer than the Y33. When I went to Autozone they said they didn't have any for the Y33, but than again that particular Autozone doesn't have the most competent people working their either

Mine weren't stocked in store either. I had to order them online. Either that or the store would order them for me. I just ordered them myself and had them shipped right to the house.

Just under $40 ea plus shipping. It came out to about $80.

I looked on the Autozone site and they don't list anything for the '97 or '99 Q45.
