My first sr20 had the HKS gt2540r .86a/r fmic, greddy intake man, ebay tubular mani, z32 maf, apex gtspec 3.75in exhaust, 740ccs, blah blah. This is the same turbo in question here. It was TONS faster than my friend's with a stock turbo, but i never went to a dyno, so i don't have much more than that to compare it to. I was running a hks wastegate, no boost controller. it was kinda peaky, but drifting or 'running' there was no lag inbetween shifts. a hard down shift from 5th to 3rd will get the tires spinning. I broke a 6 bolt axle. young children cried.
I just bought a rust bucket with a worked/stroked sr20 with the same turbo, but not the hks version. from memory, there is no difference btwn the two on the outside of the turbo, except for the hks logo. There's a boost controller and it runs 14lbs. to be honest the power delivery still feels the same, slightly peaky, even with the 2.2 and headwork, but then again, its running way more boost.
When i was doing my research, this turbo OUTFLOWED everything from 3700 rpm to redline, up to around 16psi, then some of the bigger turbos took over, but i figured i wanted power now, not later.
The new car dynod at 377, but its only running on an safc (not my doing, and no i don't risk driving around, the car is waiting for better management) and the prev owner didn't know squat, the duys at the dyno shop actually had to get it to run the same day. butt dyno comparison, i'd say the first motor was around 310 hp with the above mentioned mods.
glad to be back on the boards and back behind an sr20...
er sr22
