A magnaflow muffler w/ custom catback is a whole lot cheaper than the SP2(at least from back in the day when I did the exhaust. I dont know how much it runs for now.
I currently have a 5x8 oval body Magnaflow street series muffler (89.00 on ebay*new*), two resonators(35.00 ebay*new*) and 2.25 tubing straight to the test pipe (150.00).

I just mimicked the SP2's design, thats why I have two resonators, which are located on the straight tubing before it reaches the muffler.

My exhaust set-up:
Aside from what I mentioned above,
Custom enterprise test pipe
OBX headers

SP2. quit looking under my car!

Where do you guys get all of your Magnaflow Components?
I am looking for a stainless steel muffler with dual tips and a 2.5" inlet, but I can't seem to find one anywhere. I also want an 18 or 24" resonator (2.5"), or possibly two shorter resonators. Any help with finding this stuff would be awesome.....

i think this muffler would look sweet on the AE. where are you located? if you have an advance auto parts near you just give them the partg number and tell them to order it for you. if not, you can paypal me, i can order through advance (cause i work there), and ship it to you once it comes to the store. as far as the resonator is concerned, run any glasspack in reverse from normal and there you are.

Hey thanks for the help bud.
I actually ordered the parts to fabricate something almost exactly the same as that with a 2.5" inlet this week (Instead of the 2.25). Nobody in St. John's, Newfoundland was any real help while I was looking, so I ordered from an online source.
1) I bought a universal Magnaflow dual tip muffler Part # 14218
2) A set of ebay tips to pretty it up a little
3) A magnaflux resonator Part # 14501
4) A "High Flow Cat" Part # 91006 Because mine is extremely rusty-looking, and with the new stainless exhaust, it would be an eye-sore. Plus I didn't want to sand-blast a catylitic converter.

I'm going to go with a 2.5" custom Magnaflow job coming from a Warpspeed-Y. Has anyone tried to replace the front pre-cat coming from the front header on a cali-spec? Is there a problem with throuwing codes?
It seems strange to spend the money on a Y-pipe, and still have to put up with the front pre-cat???

Also, does anyone see any major problems with this sounding like garbage before I get the work done? (Probably 2-3 weeks to get everything here....)

Okay! Well, I ordered the Megan Racing NA type catback model# CBS-NM95.

It fit perfectly, except for the fact that the I30 was a bit longer... like 8". There was a gap between the back of the catalytic converter and the front of the exhaust system. I called them and pretty much told them I had a 96 maxima, so they are going to send me an extra attachement pipe (which they should have sent in the first place) for free. In the meantime, I had a custom pipe with flanges on each side to connect the system.

My I30 sounds great now!

I had a similar issue with the WarpSpeed B-pipe. The muffler shop had to add at least an 8" section for it to fit.

Injen CAI, Warpspeed SS y-pipe, hi-flow cat, custom dual exhaust with Medallion style mufflers...I think I'm taking those off though and going with a cleaner look. That's as far as my mods go with the exhaust anyway. The only stock part of my exhaust is the b-pipe with resonator, debating whether or not I wanna take that off. I posted these vids before, but I'll post them again to go along with the exhaust post!!!

You're right about the Y-pipe.
Coming off of the cat (Cat-back), you have a resonator, then the B-pipe, then the rear section.
The B-pipe on our cars makes a 90 degree bend (From facing the back of the car, to facing the passenger side, then about 2' straight, then another 90 deg bend to face the rear again).
The end of the B-pipe begins to curve upward to go over the rear axle.
The "Rear section" then connects to the B-pipe, goes the rest of the way around the axle, then down to the muffler.
Hope this helps.

I can't believe I haven't posted in this thread yet.

I have a "custom" intake (which I'm still working on different setups to see which works the best), a Warpspeed Y-pipe to the stock cat, to 2.5 inch piping out to a Magnaflow dual tip oval canister.

To be honest, I'm not too happy with it right now. I didn't put a resonator on...BIG mistake. Its quite loud. Which if my car was a stick I would like but with it being auto it just seems queer.

I also am not happy with how it was put on. There is an unnecessary (IMO) amount of bends in the piping and I'm not happy with the angle (downward) of my muffler.

Over all though I think it was one of the best mods done so far (mainly the WSP Y-pipe and intake). I want to try a quieter muffler the next couple weeks. Possibly either a flowmaster or maybe just a stock muffler from a 5th gen.

I had a GReddy cat-back on my 1998 Max SE. Very good quality, good looks - single oval tip - and very nice, low growl. On my '01 Max SE, I could not find a comparable GReddy cat-back. So I researched and found the Cattman. Not quite as 'finished' looking as the GReddy - but superb quality and, again, a low growl on idle and at low speed. Open it up and it has a very authoritative howl, enjoyable, but not so loud as to be bothersome. Good combination with a modified cold-air intake. I'm pretty happy. I'm not a 'tuner' type, but a 61-year-old guy who enjoys driving . . .

I only got hollow cats in my exhaust im saving for the warpspeed ss but with my custom short ram cold air intake (ask me how) my exhaust note is already pretty loud.

Anyone know the difference (or have any opinions/preferences) between the Vibrant Catback Exhaust System and the Megan Racing Catback Exhaust System for a 1999 Infiniti I30? For those that have either installed, what kind of sound does the system produce? I'm trying to decide on which one of the two to buy and would like to know the pros/cons of each. Thanks in advance ...

I was hoping for the same thing, but haven't had any replies whatsoever in over a month. I went over to YouTube and searched for both exhaust systems. I found videos for several Maximas with the Megan Catback, but none with the Vibrant StreetPower Catback. I did, however, find other cars with the Vibrant exhaust. In comparing the sounds of the two exhaust systems, I like the Vibrant better. In my opinion, the Megan system sounded more like a "fart can" on a 4-cylinder ricer car. The Vibrant system, on the other hand, had a lower, deeper throaty sound to it resembling that of a mean V8. I am going to purchase the Vibrant StreetPower Catback Exhaust system for my car.

I gave him a 3" Magnaflow polished muffler and 2 180 degree mandrel bent U's that I got from Summit Racing, and he welded it up for $150. Full 3" cat back for less than $400. Ill try and post up some picks after the weekend.

GReddy SP1 cat-back exhaust
