Packed the car up to go wheeling on Sunday Beautiful Views Did some rock crawling, the terrain wasn't bad, I scraped a few times but nothign major, for some reason all the lifted Jeep guys didn't want anything to do with this mountain. Beautiful trails, for miles

Then I hear a loud clanging noise and my R50 is steering funny. Strut was ripped straight out of the strut mount, and the top of the strut is now completely loose and independent of the spring.

The wheel was at a horrible angle. I looked in the wheel well and saw this.

again SLOWLY rock crawled like this all the way back to town. I am very lucky to have gotten off that trail - it was in the middle of nowhere. Gas station: Jacked up: Punched a few holes in my engine bay - this is a good one Getting fixed now. Happy to be home. Got a tow 100 miles to my house, and upon arrival at 3AM, the driver said "no charge". I was quoted $350 (by AAA) and then the driver said NO CHARGE!!! He is paid hourly and didn't care about my cost. I gave him $60 cash and he was pretty stoked, you could tell people dont usually tip him like that. Good people deserve good things. Later guys.

Oh man Any idea of the repair cost for something like that? Wonder if there's a way to beef it up.

You're incredibly fortunate for trails like that. . man that's beautiful. We have NOTHING like that here. . all land is owned.

The thickness of the strut mount metal around the thread hole insert is roughly less than 1/32 of an inch. The way to "beef if up" would be to use a bigger stronger washer under the nut on the strut threads to disipate the pressure of the strut nut on the strut mount. I don't know how thick you could go and still keep the lock nut securely on the strut threads. This would have to be measured. And best bet would be to go to a machine shop and have them fabricate steel washers in the proper thickness. The nickel ones from the autoparts store would not do it.

I have brand new KYB's all around now. What I did to beef it up, is install TWO open ended nuts on top of each strut. My last struts had a different top for some reason, the threaded portion was shorter, and the small nut stripped the threads with some pressure. I'll post some new pics up...

How do the KYB's ride compared to stock? I'm coming from an evo and looking for something to stiffen up the ride. It's got too much float for me now.

It feels stiffer, stronger, and you can definitely feel the damping. But I like the float feeling, I want these to break in ASAP! Tires definitely impacted my handling as well.

Fueler, what rims are those? I'm looking for something similar, but in black and am having the hardest time finding a set that fit. I'm going blind looking at all this chrome garbage.

It seems like if you mention that you drive a QX4, they assume you want 24 inch chrome dubz.
