not really sure which one is better but they both have helical gears so neither one should make that much noise. good luck on ur search

An HLSD will almost always be better suited to daily driving than an aftermarket clutch type. I'd never put a clutch type in my car unless I felt the urge to jump on the dori bandwagon.

Edit: ... or if I were making 600hp+.

I had the s15 helical and it was great. However, I have decided to go with a kaaz 1.5 way. The problem with the helical is that when one wheel is in the air, it acts like a open.

how does it feel when launching when u get the slight wheel hop? do you still get traction unlike the gay open diff?

I wouldn't buy a diff just so I can threewheel it into driveways and dips.

VLSDs suck in the wake of helical diffs. May I sugguest an OBX depending on your power output? They seem to hold up well if you inspect them properly.

EDIT: zerothread/157910

With an s15 diff you have to buy s15 output shfats as well. With an OBX you can use your stock OPEN DIFF output shafts. I'm not neccasarly trying to steer you towards OBX, because after all they are an eBay item and dont have a good reputation. Their have been alot of bad review on FWD, but none that I have read on RWD, in fact, more towards the stories of trannies going out before the OBX diff. Just recomending you completely research the torque sensing differentials before you go and spend your money.

Get a clutch diff if you plan on being fast on a track, or if you plan on making power.

Otherwise, get a helical.

I have a Cusco 1.5way in mine, and while it's super awesome on touge or on track, it's pretty tedious for daily driving.

Everyone always acts like it is a ***** to drive a two way daily. I've been doing it for two years and have no complaints. If you can't stand the clunks that only occur in parking lots then turn up your radio.

Go with the helical. Unless you are laying down prodigous amounts of power, the helical will serve you better. I also happen to be one of the people that believe a helical is superior to a clutch type on a track. A 1.5 or a 2 way need to be set up on the loose side, and still dont perform as well as a helical on track. Remember, when you turn one wheel has to travel farther, a helical allows this to happen while still powering both wheels. Nothing against clutch type diffs, choose the appropriate tool for the job.

but is the s15 helical so much better than a 1.5 way? For daily driving im sure its more manageable, but what if you drift once a month?

If you plan on drifting then get a viscous unit or fork out for a clutch type. The helical is suited more for driving than sliding. You cant have it all.

Pretty much on point. But thing is with a Vlsd the internal fluid gets cooked after a while then acts like a open diff. Good for learning though and cheap I personally wouldn't pay more than 160- for a vlsd.

The basic Nismo lsd is pretty quiet..use some redline+additive. The nismo gt pro is just plain loud.
