If you are looking simply for the cheapest rate, then the best advice I can give you is to shop around. Get quotes from everyone. both directly through carriers, their agents, or independent agents. Independents in particular can be a good option as they can get many quotes from different carriers at the same time.
Insurance rates are not lowest one company over another. Insurance companies have target consumers and tailor their rates to try and bring in that risk. So what may be the cheapest company for one person may not be for another.
Mercury Insurance is an example Ill use here. their marketting is something like X percentage of new customers saved an average of X dollars. Considering the rates themselves are probably the most inportant factor in choosing an insurance company for most consumers, it only makes sense. Most of the new customers are gng to have switched to Mercury because it was chaper for THEM. Personally, I've gotten quotes for Mercury at several different points in my life and it has never been cheaper for me than other options.
