Hey everybody! Adam here from Rochester NY, just started on the restoration of a 1977 Datsun 280Z, figured I'd have you guys follow along for the ride and give any tips where needed, as this is my first "frame off" resoration.

hey guys just have to give you a short, as I'm headed to the shop right now to put the whole car on stands to drop the suspension tonight, and if time is on my side, the transmission and rear end. I'll be taking pictures too!!

This is actually my 3rd 280, the other 280s were, at my time, WAY outta my league for rust repair. This one does have it's share, but the BEST unrestored 280 I've personally come across in uptate NY.

Plans thus far are:Plans:* Rotissarie restoration (Building the rotissarie at Mahany welding, then bringing it to the shop)* Paint it blue, not decided on actual kind of blue* Staggared, deep dish 18" wheels, maybe 17's in the front if I can get them that way* just a subtle widebody* shaved bumpers* Square tubed chassi build (it's a unibody)* Black cloth interior, new rugs, seats etc etc. Havent decided if i want to do any fiberglass work on the inside of the car, but I'll probably end up making use of carbon fiber in some areas* Engine wise, I'm not going the 350 route, sticking to a nissan motor swap

Make sure to check out http://www.driverx.net/showthread.php?t=109 for all the progress thus far, I only started on it last week!!

CYA guys!

what color do you have in mind for it?

I'm kinda hoping you keep it brown. It's an underrated color...especially with bronze wheels.

looks like a good chassis, on the rotissarie, be sure to keep a shop vac handy, you'll get little pieces of crap in every corner and hole possible and it's rattle when you roll it over and drive ytou nuts, and trust me, you'll turn it over repeated ly just becasue you can, my buds 280 is still on my rotissarie

and it kinda looks like the frame rails have been done before just neglected to paint or protect them afterwords (not the greatest pic)

I hear ya, but I've always invisioned this matallic blue color with a solid black interior, enginebay, and underside. The current color is actually a pearl brown, really nice color, but you can tell they never took the time to take off any body panels or tape alot of it off. I think it was someone's weekend garage project.

I'll definetley keep a shop vac handy, thanks for the tip! Got a picture of your rotissarie by any chance? It would be great ot see. I already have a pretty good idea on the design, but never saw one built specifically for the datsun.

And yeah, the passanger frame rail is completely solid, liiks like an I beam, and the passanger side is just square tubing. Either way, both are coming out and are being replaced.

Also, if anyone wants to copy and post all the pictures from http://www.driverx.net/showthread.php?t=109 they're more than welcome to!
