My car is a 95 240sx with 144K miles on it. Well for the past 6 or 7 months I been having an idleing problem. After trying everything I could think of I just about gave up on it(EGR valve, EGR temp sensor{threw a code for that}, new plugs wires, dist. rotor, fuel filter, took off IACV cleaned it and took about every sensor off and cleaned them) but stil had the problem. today I took the throttle body completly off and drenched it with carb cleaner. This thing was filthy. The butterfly was covered the hole where a vacumm line goes to in front of the butterfly was clogged(I think). After cleaning it all out I took the TPS off and cleaned around it and cleaned the connections. I put it all back together and presto no more idling problems. Purrs like a kitten, until it started overheating but its 108 degrees outside and all I got is the factory electric fan going. Anyways if anyone is having this problem try taking the TB off and cleaning it completely. So far so good on mine. I drove around for 2 hours stopping at every stoplight and stop sign to check and it was all good. Usually does it within 10 minutes af starting. BOOO idling problem Hooooray carb cleaner!!!

Glad you got it worked out, idle problems are a PITA.

Doesnt it feel good when you figured out the problem and fixed it with your own hands?? Nothin better

I may have to try this out. I've cleaned the TB before but not the TPS. Lately, the idle ghost has been haunting my engine.

Something else to try is to disconnect all sensors, valves, injectors, etc and spray contact cleaner in the connectors....I done just the injectors and my idle is much better already. Lots of crummy green corrosion starts to accumulate inside the plugs after many years.

Oh yeah it feels great to have it fixed and to do it myself. And its much easier on the wallet. Cause I only trust my car with a Nissan dealership and their labor charges are outrageous. Oh yeah update, fixed the overheating problem too. When I changed my water pump I forgot to burp the cooling system. Did it and now she runs cooler than ever even in 105 degree weather. About the TPS I took it completly off, but not apart or anything. Its really not that hard to get the TB out with the engine in, just have to have patience. There is also a sequence to tightning the bolts back up so make sure you get that. And remember to use new gaskets on everything these cars are getting old and the gaskets need replacing anyway.

Ive been having the same problems. I cant seem to figure it out actually.

Im probably just going to give up and set my idle to 800-900 rpms so it doesnt act up anymore.

Sure can, but it might be a day or so. I can explain its real simple. Take off the dist. cap then pull off the seal that the cap sat on.(be careful with it cause it may rip) I just used water and armor all to clean it up(probably not the best thing to use, but it worked) then put it back on. Check that long tube that runs the side of the dist. cap. look at that brass point and clean it too. if there corrosion in the tube replace the cap. dont try to clean it cause it wont work. give me few days for the pics cause I got to work and got school tonight so I will be tied up.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOO your talking about the TB....See I thought you were talking about the dist...Damn I dont know if I wanna take all that apart again. Its not that hard but I dont know if I want to cause it might jinx it and it running so well now. Sorry man like I said I thought U were talking about the dist. If ya want I will take you through the steps of it. The only thing thats real technical is the 4 bolts that hold the TB in have to be tightened back in a certain order.. Let me know man and I will help you out if I can

Yeah, if you can post a step by step, and maybe photos of it together, locating the butterfly (no clue what that is), and how exactly you cleaned them.

I will then go through the steps, taking pictures for everyone else, for future reference :-)
