Need some help. Apparently the car does not start and the owner thinks its a fuel pump.

What started happening was the car began having troubled starts in the morning which escalated to him push starting it. Then on its final day (several days it seems) with both the owner and his brother pushing, it wouldn't start.

the car has about 160K on it, and the timing chain was already done some 30-40 K ago.

What should I look for or try out when I go there tomorrow. I'm bringing one of the Eliminator booster battery packs. I also plan on pulling the valve cover to check to make sure the chain is still there.

thanks in advance

ljb

I can't believe this, what a VAGUE post I made. Must be a little rusty!

Its a 1990 hatchback 240sx. 5spd manual.

Plus I also put this in the 240sx Silvia forum when it should have been in the technical forum.

I've been searching the archives like crazy. I won't be just throwing parts at this car. Apparently when the fuel line was pulled to test for fuel delivery it was very low pressure coming out, not squirting out. I thought the fuel delivery on these cars wasn't high anyways?

If a moderator could put this in the correct forum and forgive me, please do. Thanks!

Not sure the significance behind getting pics ... I need some technical help.

If I actually buy the car, then yes I'll post pics and the price I paid.

Went there, took the battery out of the explorer and hooked it up. turned the key to on without trying to start - the fuel pump didn't make a peep. The car tries to start without a hiccup, but that pump certainly doesn't make a sound.

I put the seats down, pulled the hatch insulation back so the pump was exposed as much as possible.

The agreed price thus far is 400 bucks. Now the wife jsut has to look at it because really, this car is just for me - and we certainly don't need it. Should know by tonight.

Oh man what a day. The car has been bought out from underneath me. BY MY WIFE.

Sorry for the long post! (read and you'll understand)

In a nutshell, I pick her up from work to take her to look at the car. She is still hesitant because we have 2 kids, another on the way. This is not a vehicle we need - its just something I want. So I'm talking to the owner over the cell phone (he is at work while I'm at his house checking out the car) Bantering back and forth and negotiating price and all that.

Driving there and we pull up, the wife screws up her face at first glance. SHes walking around it, not looking too impressed. Then she pipes up that she picked something up for me today as we were getting ready to leave and its a card. (this weekend is our first year wedding anniversary)

I open up this card, its an anniversary card and inside theres a cheque. I open it up and its wrote out to the owner for the price of the car. I look at her and shes got this big smile and says "I already bought this car for you"

I forwarded the buy/sell ad to her earlier this week and after I looked at it jsut to get an idea of the shape of the car, she could tell i wanted it. She immediately began talking to the owner because she had his contact info from the ad. Get this, at one point this morning when I'm talking to her about the car after verifying the fuel pump she puts me on hold (shes at work, and takes alot of calls) Turns out she was talking to the owner when I called...both of them schemin on how to keep me totally in the dark.

Well it worked and I now own another 240sx. Pics will come soon.

Thats why both her and the seller agreed to wait till after I troubleshooted the car and verify what was wrong before anything was committed. I'm still in shock, she totally blindsided me with that one.

This is a pic of the interior with no cleaning done. You should honestly see the interior now that I scrubbed it with soap and water. Looks AMAZING!

The only thing that sucks about this car, was the guy was rear ended about 10 years ago. No frame damage or anything like that. The body shop repainted the rear quarters and bumper cover. Those are whats rusted and faded.

The bra was removed not 2 hours after those pics were taken. I thought with blow-by you're stuck with it....there was no easy fix for it. Unless I'm wrong?

The oil leak was from when he had the timing chain done, the timing cover is dieffinitely the culpirt, and it leaks very little.

The only thing that would make me nervous is that 1/4 panel rust. Thats not going to be cheap or easy to fix, but it seems like you are happy with the car.

Its pretty bad I won't lie, but I can do some of the work myself and my old man can do the rest.

I'll delay it till next year by sanding it down, putting on some rust inhibitor, lil bit of body filler and then putting a patch job of paint over some primer. No it won't look pretty but it will keep whats there from getting worse.

Now its time to search the archives because heres what I have to do:

1. Remove god awful rear tint2. Cruise Control doesn't work3. Rear wiper doesn't work
