Ok. Just lately my car has started acting up on me when I go to start it.

It's starting about 25% of the time and its like it either starts, or does nothing at all.

When I turn the key one of two things are going to happen:1. It starts right up no problem.2. Everything turns off inside the car and it makes a click and the starter doesn't even turn.

I checked thouroughly for a loose wire somewhere and I can't find one.

Also when it does option # 2 it will misfire for about 30 seconds after it finally does start and has a horribly rough idle and seriously lacks power. (I'm assuming due to the consistent miss, sounds like it's on 3 cyl) After the 30 or so seconds the car will just sudenly get all it's power back and the miss/rough idle completely goes away all at once.

I'm just confused. I don't know what to think anymore.

Check your fuses / relays related to the ignition. That's all the insight I have for you sorry.

They are all good. And the connection on the battery terminals is good too.

And for the record......My ECU gives no codes.

Check that the ground that goes to your throttle body is good and tight.

K, thanks, so how do I spot a loose ground?? Just have to wrench things till I find something loose?? Ugg.

I started to think maybe a loose ground on the starter?? Is that possible??

If it wiggles then it's loose. The aforementioned ground is the one the starter uses assuming your grounds are stock.

Yes sounds like a loose wire (ground??) start with the battery, starter and check that all wiring and cable are secured....It might take a while to find, but it will be a cheap fix...unless you take to the dealer...

Well, thanks guys. I finally got it. Hopefully it'll stay that way for a while. lol

I disconnected and cleaned and reconnected every ground under the hood. None of them were loose but one was very oily. The on attached to the front of the head. Anyways, I've started it about 20 times now and it hasn't messed up on my yet so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Sounds like you have a bad armature on ur starter...when it doesnt start use something to tap the starter. if it starts then its a bad starter. your miss when its cold could be due to bad/old/fouled spark plugs and wires...

I have been recently having the exact same problem, with the same rough running after not starting. It always starts but ocasionally it take 4 or more clicks of the key to get it to even turn over. Someone I know had the same problem before his starter went. I'm prolly gonig to replace mine. Don't know if that helps but I thought I'd throw it out there.

You know whats odd.....I was about to post in here that it started messing up again earlier this week...only it's worse now.....

Sometimes it'll get that miss for no apparent reason whatsoever now.......Has nothing to do with anything anymore......cold, hot, 5 hours into a drive, at start up.......sometimes it'll last 30 seconds, sometimes it'll last an hour. And it's BAAAAAAAAD too. It's seriously acting like it's on 2 cylinders and can't decide it's inconsistent as to which ones it misses on. I have new NGK V-Power plugs and wires cap and rotor and fuel filter and short ram intake, and a new coil, so I know it isn't a tune up issue.

Can a bad battery ground wire cause a random mis fire??
