I have a lifter that is ticking "almost" continuously on my 01Q. It is the rear cylinder on the passenger side from what I can tell. The Infinity tech said that it was most likely due to the timing chain tensioner not applying enough pressure. Anyone else had this problem? My extended warranty will only cover the repair if the part has failed, but the only way to determine that is to front the money to open it up. The shop is recommending an engine flush. Any thoughts?

Thanks

J

BG QUICK CLEAN + MOA/111 in warm CLEAN oil, drive under 2500 rpms for 15 minutes change oil hot. Corrected ? NO repeat the process again IMMEDIATELY.

That is the strongest process I think is safe.

Has the engine always had the 90 day oil changes? If not who is to blame?

Then get the Infiniti dealer perormed service history for your car. That way youwill at least have a clue as to what was done.

Q45tech instructions work! Had some ticking from one cylinder's HLAs on my '90 and did the Quickclean/Moa routine multiple times and it is pretty much all gone. Went very conservatively on the first couple flushes, using only 1/2 can of QC at a time.

Unfortunately the original owner stopped taking it to a dealer after about the forst 6 months, so there is a large hole in the history. I did not know all this when I bought it of course.

Thanks for the advice. I will try the additive route. The whole pumping solvent through the engine makes me very nervous, plus it is stupid expensive.

Actually the Envirolution process is pretty good and is considered to be very safe... I assume that's what you mean by "pumping solvent" through the engine.

Not to put words in Dennis' (Q45Tech) mouth - but I assume he was talking about chemical additive flushes when he said that the Quick Clean process was the only safe process. The envirolution process is a whole different deal.

What sort of cost are they quoting?

The solvent used in Evolution is not as aggessive on fine varnishes that might block the tiny holes in HLA. They worry about human exposure and fires because of larger volume of circulating solvent.

Guess you could do the evolution first to get some chunks out then the Quick Clean.

The Quick Clean is so flammable that it will evaporate thru the PCV system and leave the varnish behind so follow my 15 minute rule.

We tested the hot evaporation rate with 212F boiling water [no open flames or you won't have skin].

$130 + an oil change, so $150-160, don't remember what the oil change ran exactly.

Just used the process yesterday on my Q, try to do it twice per year since 1998 [130k]..........obviously hasn't damaged things at 305k.

Found three auctions on eBay. Depending on how quickly you need it, you may be able to get a good deal that way. I just bought five cans of BG44K for about $13each shipped.

I need to do this again.

My car has one lazy lifter that ticks like crazy.

It gets really bad if I let the car sit over the weekend. A few weeks ago it sat for two weeks, when I started it up the lifter noise was so bad it made me cringe.

BG44k worked the first (and only) time I used it, but the noise eventually creeped back. I think I need to get drastic with multiple changes like Q45tech recommends.

What does BG44k have to do with lifters it is an injector/ valve piston top cleaning additive.

For lifters.: MOA-111, BG Quick Clean for engines then............ maybe Marvel Myster Oil or some pine oil based sludge remover or exotic mixtures for sewage drains septic tanks [just kidding]

So is a Bilstein/Envirolution machine flush effective at all for top-end HLA/lifter cleaning like this?

THE BG 111/MOA is a zinc/friction additive used with oil to plate the wear surfaces gives a few seconds more protection in a loss of oil film..........with every oil change since 1990..............64 + cans of the stuff.

It is used with Quick Clean because the oil film might be thinned by the solvents.

Every tech knows these products as they are used almost everywhere.

Sorry meant quick flush or whatever it's called. The stuff you dump in the oil, not the gas.

BG 110 is the MOA. BG 105 is the quick clean (red can).
imho, you do not need to use the 110 during the 105 flush. 110 is good afterward, of course in the fresh oil you will put in.
congrats on searching, vs. just posting new topic.

PS- the BG110/MOA contains sodium. just something to be aware of should you happen to be fastidious about having your used oil analysed.
