These tires came stock on my dad's 2004 SE Maxima. Yesterday, after coming back from a drive, I noticed that the front left was a bit low. I took the tire off and noticed some severe cracking in the sidewall. I thought perhaps it was from driving on the tire with low air, but it seemed to severe for that.I looked at the other 3 tires and found that they were all cracked as well. Each tire has numerous cracks running circumfrencially around the sidewall. None of these tires, save the front left, have been run with low air.

I read various tire review websites, and this appears to be a common problem. However, I can find no details as to whether this tire has been recalled.

My dad took the car to get new tires and goodyear reimbursed him a whole $100 for the remaining tread (the tires are 1 1/2 years old). But the Michelin Pilot Sports he replaced the crappy Goodyears ended up totalling $1200! The price was to be expected for tires of this size, but the RS-As (had the not been defective) had a good amount of use left in them.

Is anyone aware of any further information on the Eagle RS-A? (Size on the Maxima is 245/45/VR18). I want either Nissan or Goodyear to pay for the full price of the tires! They obviously have a serious defect. Complaints from customers who got these tires new on everything from Pontiacs to Cadillacs abound. Many people have had these tires come apart during normal driving!Nissan needs to stop putting these tires on their cars!

Hopefully the Pilot Spots prove to be better tires.

Thanks!

thats all your going to get by just looking for a warranty reimbursement from good year, my dads had the same experience

id say either go straight to good year, not a dealer, or go to nissan

do you still have the old tires, or any proof of what they looked like?

Goodyear RS-A tires are crap. They are quiet, yes. Last a long time, yes. But the performance and handling are pathetic. And they are overpriced as well!

I don't have specific advice for the problem you had - my wife's Acura came with these tires and they had minute cracks of this type inside the wheel tread (not the contact area.) I decided to get rid of them even though they were still at 5/32 of tread left after 25k miles.

So, I would strongly recommend the other tires, yes! The Pilot Sports will be better tires for sure. Even some of the other Goodyear brands (like the Eagle F1 GS-D3) will be far superior.

I just do not know why many automobile manufacturers (including Nissan and Infiniti) continue to use the RS-A as the stock tire for many of their cars.

Manufacturers would prefer to not supply tires at all with a new car, the source of most problems.

They just put them on to roll the car thru to the retail customer. A bad habit they got into supplying tires on a new vehicle!

It is assumed that the customer will replace them if he/she desires something different.
