make sure you get the pleather ones... I bet the cloth version would not last very long... as always the quality is not as good as a real seat, so a bad crash might = death ...

Get a Corbeau or Momo seat, both can be had for < $250 each and are very high quality

theres no real sense in getting aftermarket seats unless theyre FIA homologated, or an equivalent

that said, you really should try seats out before you buy them, if you dont like them 100% youd have to live with them

Yeah, it would kind of suck to find out that your Ebay seats have weak welds and poor design the moment before you splat against the windshield.

Personally, I'd feel more comfortable with something OE or from a major manufacturer of racing seats (Sparco, Recaro, Corbeau, etc.). Something that has to meet *some* kind of manufacturing or safety standard, whether it's ISO 9001, Tüv, etc.

On a related note, this may be the first time I've ever wished I lived in CA...

there are tons of auto crosses and drift events that will let you run what ever.

Just make sure its a big enough name that the company would have to worry about word getting out that there seat are unsafe.Any major company is gonna do at least some testing to protect their name.

i dont drift and i still can drive the miata for auto-x

hatch will see hpde's this summer, and possibly TT after that

one of my goals actually is to run the silver state classic with it, anybody want to navigate?

i guess if you are running an event that doesnt require FIA cert you can run seats that dont have it, but my thinking with that would be "what if i ever decide to run something that does need it"

being in TN i dont know how much he would run events that would, so he could probably get away with corbeau's or something, yes

The Momo seat is FIA, the Corbeau forza was FIA but it was not renued, as Red coupe said most AutoXs and Drifting events let you run whatever as long as it seems sturdy. At the tech check of my local drifting event they would kick the exhausts to make sure they did not fall off then check it off the list lol.

yeah tech at the local autox is "push on your breaks as hard as you can like you were gonna hit a wall...OK, pop your hood *pushes on battery* and the trunk...ok!"

Then again they also said "So apperently some one left an airplane on the edge of the runway...Make sure not to hit the airplane. I dont think our insurance will cover that."

"Absolutely. As soon as I finish my beer I guarantee I'll have this car upside down in 5 minutes. Get the fire extinguishers ready."

I need to lose some weight before, but I am the best navigator (back seat driver if you ask my girl) there is! lolWhere is that event hosted?

Also about miatas: Ive been to a few events around here in the summer where the miata guys are always spinning out on the corners, ALWAYS. I have mad respect for the mofo who can keep that car out of too much oversteer cause Ive handled one and it almost likes to wheel hop in the rear when the turns get tight. Anyone care to explain the physics of that one to me?

those ebay seats are garbage and suck 100%

Save a little extra money and pick up a set of entry level Sparco seats.

Safer, not cheaply made, lighter, and the company will back them up.

about a 90 mile stretch of nevada highway, youre in different speed classes...straights are measured in miles

the idea is to average that speed for the entire length of the run, and get as close as possible to the average time...classes range from 95-150mph, depending on stuff like safety prep and driver skill

ill probably be starting in either 100 or 110

of course theres also an unlimited class, where its just a race, but those cars normally average at least if not more than 200mph, fastest trap speed was a tube frame corvette running 227

DO NOT GET THEM IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE!!

My friend had a pair of D.A.D seats aka Dynamic Auto Designs aka Ebay garbage in his DC2. A lady rear ended him at a red light and the back snapped off and he was tossed back instantly. Do you value your vertabrae?

and heres your answer.

it is a VERY real concern with those ****ty ebay seats. they are NOT strong enough for a solid impact.

theres a reason a good seat costs so much, because it protects you in an accident.

ill be out here for another year or so, is it a SCCA event?

theres 2 courses actually, one is 278 around Elko and Eureka, and one is 318, starts around Ely and heads south for ~90 miles, this is the one car and driver ran...mapquest says youd have to take 395 to reno/sparks then 80 east to elko

its like the salt flats, its its own sanctioning body

and heres the article from car and driver where they competed a stock GTO in the 100mph class:
