Haven't posted in a while...
But basically I am planning on rebuilding the 240, although I probably should just put stock pistons and rods in it and sell it and save the money and get a nicer, newer, more practical car. However, I got a LOT of money from my grandfather for Christmas, despite the fact that he's not wealthy in the least (He's trying to get rid of his money in case that if he ever needs to go to a nursing home, the state can't deplete his funds)...therefore, I have plenty of $ to rebuild the engine and then some.
I have wiseco 9:1 forged, coated pistons and crower forged connecting rods, and a spare block/oil pan here already. If all goes well (which it almost never does), it should be rebuilt by this spring...
I learned my lesson though, I'm not going to be looking to push crazy numbers...I believe I will be more than satisfied with 300 whp, and the fact that the engine will be rebuilt with internals strong enough to handle well over 450 whp will make things more reliable and long lasting. I just want the car to be fun for the street, but also regain some practicality (I'll probably put the stripped interior back in, for example).
While I'm at it, I'll probably end up finally ditching the T3 super 60 turbo, which is an excellent turbo for auto-x or daily driving when you don't feel like winding the engine out. Along with that I'll most likely ditch the existing log manifold and downpipe (btw, if anyone's interested in the turbo (along with a brand new, $120 GReddy internal adjustable wastegate), manifold, and 2.5" mandrel bent downpipe, let me know, I'll prob sell it for like $600 altogether...) I'll finally upgrade to the famed T3/T04E hybrid, .63 a/r turbine, along with an external wastegate and possibly an equal-length ground-zero motorsports manifold (group buy at KA-T right now for $695). I'm looking to make about 300 whp @ 12 psi or so, which should be more than achievable.
Anyhow, back to the topic--I just snapped a few pictures of the marked contrast in quality between stock KA rods and crower rods...
Crower rods are 28 mm wide versus the stock ones that are 21 mm wide, and are 16 mm thick versus the stock ones that are 13 mm thick. That, and the craftsmanship is soooo much better compared to stock ones, even down to the rod bolts (which we all know are very important).
On to the pics!
