I just purchased a beautiful 1992 vert and am looking for trunk lifts. There are a few on ebay but they say trunk/hatch. Do the hatchback and vert use the same lifts? It says 17-24". This is the auction link.

Thanks for the help.

Why? Use your key, open the trunk. Easy.

What exactly is the idea behind those little shocks? Looks like it's just to hold your hood up, but for your trunk..

yeah the vert has two "shock" things that hold the trunk open, but the coupe uses spring loaded rods under tension. the vert had to switch to the scissor style hinges and the shocks because the regular ones off the coupe swung into the area the top stores in when its down on the vert.

I haven't compared them to the ones on the hatch but I seriously doubt that they are the same, having removed both hatches and trunklids I can tell you that the trunlid weighsprobably a third of that of a hatch. Plus if I remember the hatch struts lay down when its closed so they are longer.

Thank you all for your responses. BTW, I had been using my key. But it is hard to unload the trunk and hold the lid at the same time. I did find some replacements at AutoZone by doing a visual comparison. They did not even have the 240SX Vert in their system only the Hatchback.

If anyone else is in need of Lift Rods, what they were called on the package the part number for replacement at AutoZone is E95212 and they are branded Mighty Lift. They cost 19.99 or did today and have a limited lifetime warranty.

So for less than $50.00, my trunk lid will stop hitting me in the head.

Thanks again and I am looking forward to learning all about my new girl. Looks like many of you have been vert owners for quite a while.

Thanks,

Damien

thanks, mine were worn out but when I switched to a non spoiler coupe trunk lid they still have enough juice to pop it open since its like half the weight of the stock lid (that spoiler weighs a ton). Is that 19.99 per strut or for both? I guess each since you said $50 total.... oh well more money than I wanna spend but I'll get some new ones eventually.

the auto zone strut works great. the only thing is with two of them your trunk will rocket open.I took one of the new ones off and put an old one back on, now it opens perfectly.

Thank you for providing the part number. I was tired of getting hit on the head and/or using my baseball bat to prop open my trunk. Was worth the $45 or so to have it work right again.

You guys rock! Thanks for the part number; installation was a breeze and no more tree limb in the trunk. Now my trunk release inside the car actually works and the deck springs open.
