Rocker arms and lifters are removed from the cylinder head prior to install as I was trying to source new lifter Orings. Infiniti doesn't sell them separate and wants 44 bux a lifter TIMES 32 lifters... I got some Orings from Napa for grand total of 10 bux.

Very very pretty! Never have seen the pentroof design of the heads before. Thanks.

Be absolutely sure you get the correct elastometric and thermal properties for the O rings. Sure would hate to have them fail. I am sure they are out there.

Do you have a top of the cylinder down shot of the block?

Looks good, eager to how the rest of the process goes.

So what did your head guy say about these heads?

Is that a 94+ head then? Looking at the inlet ports and the studs for locating the covers and it looks different to mine.

Yes, as it has the oval inlet ports vs. the twinned inlet ports of the earlier head design.

Yeah these are 94 heads, as my car is a 94 Q. Machinist told me they are nice heads and hes never done a set like them. He told me he preffers doing heads on V8 Japanesse cars like Lexus and now Infiniti than German cars. Benz and BMW heads warp wayyy too eassy.

My powdercoated is redoing my valve covers as he left them with one of his employes and got them done in YELLOW. Where I requested Candy Apple Red so those will be in after the weekend. I'm very eagger to see what this thing will run like once its all togheter. I'm trying to modify 4.6L 4V Ford 'Stang headers to work on the VH, they seem to have similar ports just diff flanges- which I will cut off and install VH specific ones. If this works out, it gives an us an option with headers for more power

That's it. Seems like 5mm overbore like John Dixon has done would make those liners pretty thin.

I'll post some pics up when it's done and let you see. Think it's more that there's just loads of meat in these blocks. I'm not using the original liners, fitting new ones after boring the old ones out.

Here is a picture of a KA24 I built about a year ago for a friend of mine to be installed in his 97 S14. Notice how much material there is between the cylinders...

Here is a picture of a SR20 that I built for my 93 SE-R... once again notice the design of the deck... very similar to a VH45, as both are aluminum block engines vs KA24s cast iron block.

In my personal opinion VH45DE is the sturdiest engine of all Nissan aluminum block engines. Its VERY overbuilt for its intended purpose- 280HP. Alot of engineering thought went into designing the block for longetivity and durrability. The cylinder walls are MUCH thicker than SR20s, you have about 1" of material between each cylinder in the VH. Here is what the KA24 I built looked like after assembly.... My VH45 will feature way more bling than this ! I aint no stranger to Nissan engines

Shot of my friends Sentra SE-R with the same color valve cover as mine. I have yet to receive mine- should be here this week. But I am showing ya this just as a lil tease.... Candy Apple Red, with coil covers left alone in black- I think it will look HOT.

Interesting pics.

It's also interesting to get someone's (somewhat) unbiased opinion on the build design/quality of the VH. Not the first time I've heard the motor was over-built/overdesigned, but always good to hear it again.

Was cleaning the Q today- engine bay etc, and decided to snap a few pictures of the engine in the car as it is in its current state. I am awaiting my 500 dollars worth of underplenum hoses, valve covers from the poweder coater, and fuel rails from being coated also. I've had a friend of mine who does pro- wheel refinishing do a lil some some on the timing chain covers, here is the end results.

Here is a shot of the covers- I have a new front crank seal to install on it. Looks like my car will be down till most likely end of this year. Not that I am in any kinda hurry, I got a snow friendly ride anyways.

I didn't bother cleaning the block or any of the associated tubes under the plenum, its not like you can see it anyways ! Well that is it- imagine the top plenum on, bright candy apple red valve covers and a VERY shiny intake manifold- its all chromed out.
