Just wanted to tell you about a S13 with CA18DET here in Sweden. We call the car "Budget Banzai" because of the cheap (but good) tricks used to build this engine. It made 335 bhp a few days ago and just ran ET 12.5 and 2.3/60-foot on Tein track set-up, the car will go faster with better launch/tires.

Some spec:

Low weight pistonsShot peened rodsFully balanced Ported exhaust ports in headStock camsStock injectors but 4 bar fuel pressureMitsu TD04-16T turbo running 1.5 bar boostTubular exhaust manifoldWalbro 255 pumpCustom IC and pipingCustom ECU upgrade and 8500 rpm rev limit3" AFM 3" turbo backNKG 7 plugsBMW clutch8 lbs lightened flywheelS14 LSD

Pretty nice? And a real sleeper!

Nothing bolt-on but some guys love to spend some time with the car...

/Mike

My setup isn't too far off from that at all. I'm really considering have a custom mani built to run some of the mitsu turbo's. They seem to make really great numbers...

Without talking BS, the Mitsu´s are probably the best 200-370 hp turbo´s available. The quality, spool-up and milage is great on the TD04 series. If you are lazy you got both wg and bov internal in those ones, not much to build around. Used a 18T on the car before this but it was a bit too laggy, 1.8 litre is small....

If you want to find them used, talk to the Volvo 850 and S/V70 owners, many turbo swap´s in the US right now.The 15G is the most common one used in 850 T5, good for 300 bhp in good shape.

I think you mean the TD05 mitsu turbos. The TD04 housings were pretty tiny. The 16G variants all use the TD05 housings and are the ones that will get you between 250-350hp. Right now, I would say the EVO3 16G is the best bang for the buck. You can get them for less than $550 shipped and make more than 330whp with them.

Nope, we used the TD04-16T but I don´t know if you can find it outside the Volvo dealers. This is a stock 850R (5-speed) turbo but you can also find the angeled version on S/V70 T5 and S60 T5.

On the MY00 V70R AWD you can find the 19T, largest one, love that turbo...

You also got the 12T,13T,14T and 15T/G but it´s tooooo many cars to write. Got all the part numbers if you need a new one, T3 flange from 15T and up, special one on 14T and down.

And yes, the turbine housings are tiny and nice for the CA18.

Not that hard, you just had to plane off the flywheel a bit on the disc surface. And of course balance the whole thing after, can recommend it, still using OEM disc and no problems with crappy sinter launches and sinter weardown on flywheel.

Tested the ACT clutches a few times but the pressure plates are too weak, always need sinter disc to hold the torque...

'plane off' ? do you mean grind it down some, or resurface a wider area to make more of it useful for the clutch?

'sinter' ? as in melting bits of metal or whatever together? i.e. burning out the clutch?

Yeah, you need grind down a bit because of the different disc thickness between Beemer and Nissan.I got the part number and exact info in my apartment but not there now.

Many guys probably think it´s a stupid thing to do, not bolt-on and hard to find a shop to do this... Buuuut, if you are going to balance the engine the same company can help you with this an you´ll have a much better clutch with Sachs quality and better to drive in city traffic.

The sinter is hard and will shave off the flywheel with time.Have seen this on many CA flywheels using ACT and sinter, maybe Nissan uses soft metal in the flywheel? Is sinter the correct name in English?

I don't think sinter is the correct term you're looking for...

but those are some pretty kicka$s results! nicely done, especially for a budget build.

The copper colored disc´s with 3, 4 or 6 "arms", what do you call them?

Yeah, very nice results, and still using the stock EMS is fun.I need to add one thing to the mod list, his car was bought with major bearing problems.I would never opened it up if the bearings were in good shape, but with lighter pistons we can rev higher!

clutch material / surface, right? its the organic or otherwise material that does the "grabbing" like a brake pad?
