And what was this originally made for???

Any feedback on how it changes the handling characteristics of the car yet?

This is handmade for my '90 Q45. I wound up having to change the design mid-stream. (long story) Makes the rear very stiff, plus I have the 22mm rear sway w/ poly bushies. Wanted to stick in poly sub-frame bushies this summer but didn't yet Too busy (note the date)

Everything is 10ga plate, with 3/8 ID DOM tube for the cross bar.

Upon reflection maybe too stiff... oh well -handles GREAT !! Seems to have a touch more oversteer now, but I don't know why. Stock had lots of understeer.

Here comes another huge one one: (thanks in advance for fixing it, my computer skills are quite neanderthal)

Wow, even with the active Q45 sway bar this made that kind of difference?

Very nice bracing on the uprights, but a little close to the fuel lines for me.

Good job.

Something don't make sense. Stiffening up the rear SHOULD have increased perceived UNDERSTEER or REDUCED oversteer.

Nice Job! I didn't think the rear flexed that much.

That's why I said:Quote »Seems to have a touch more oversteer now, but I don't know why. Stock had lots of understeer.[/quote]Not that it's neutral now. Just less understeer... Oh well...

Well - If the rear spring towers flexed enough to absorb some of the rear weight transfer, it would have the same effect as softer rear springs/softer rear swaybar: less oversteer.

Stiffening up the rear on a RWD car will almost always increase oversteer. Many road race RWD cars will take rear sway bars OFF or run very small ones.

I know it's just a game, but hell, Formula 1 drivers use it to learn tracks they haven't run yet. Play with Gran Turismo and get a nice RWD car then tweak its suspension and you get the idea. The stiffer the rear is, the more quickly it snaps into oversteer.

This is a general rule of thumb on car set up: FWD cars, soft front, stiff rear to balance handling out. RWD cars, stiff front, soft rear to balance handling.

RWD cars have the advantage of power to the back, so you can control the pivot point with the throttle.

You need to get a bigger front sway bar now to help balance it out. What you've done looks very nice, I wouldn't worry too much about the fuel lines as the back should be stiff enough that there will be very little chasis flex, and the lines are quite flexible themselves.

Wes, you'd be suprised how much difference a rear STB makes. Do you have one? Can't recall.

That's what a buddy who's raced at slinger for years said, then he took off his hat and scratched his head and said "I don't know".You need to get a bigger front sway bar now to help balance it out. Very interesting, I left on the huge bar from the factory ( whatever size that was) and it's got poly on all sides.

The fuel lines are about 1/4 - 5/16 clear on all sides, I took modeling clay and wrapped it around the bar to check for contact after a good beasting. No contact.I took a cheap broomstick and soaked it in water, (to make it xtra soft to not flatten the lines) then rolled it with up-pressure to bend them w/o removing that mess.

The dust covers fit the front so it cleaned up the engine compartment a little . Which leads me to think the front STB could be adapted to the rear, with a little fab work. Might have to bend the lines more than I did or run them above all that stuff, but I thought that would increase the likelyhood for bending via leverage, so I made mine as low and beefy as I could. That might give you some ideas Wes...

This Rear Shock Tower bar is a very very safe design. But I don't like how tall those hats are and there is no mass production.

What ever happened to this member though?
