All oil changes are done properly from underneath. There are several posts in Infiniti Mechanic forum, including mine with coilpacks in the title. Only the intake between the Air Filter and the TB needs to be removed. Best to have high temperature lubrication and a torque wrench, lots of clean rags and some carburetor cleaner on hand.

Remove the oil filter from the botton and you're right, theres not alot of room. The spark plugs take a while and will test your patients. 3 - 4 hrs of cursing and making a mess should be expected! Remember to stay away from the Bosch platnum plugs. IMHO they suck! NGK platnum are the best. red

just remember that fy33 oil filter is waaaay easier than the filter on the G50. HG50 even worse with the extra active plumbing. FY33 also has a catch cup which helps keep things cleaner. if you must use a filter wrench, the kind that are a band, but tighten when you use a 3/8 ratchet [with 3 inch extension in the case of the Q seems to work well]. <<hijack>> anyone know if that catchcup acan be refitted to the G50 [the threaded holder/adapter/bracket is a bit different i believe--at least i put an m1-110 on the fy33, vs. m1-208 for the G50.

Honestly I think an oil filter relocation thing would be a good move... Make it so you can easily access it from under... once for the 300ZX will work as they use the same filter.

That's the first step. Just one large under engine tray, or drop the left side if you are lazy. Best to drop and inspect everything.

Brain, Can you give me a little bit more help regarding the search. I try looking up "coilpacks" in Infiniti Online Mechanic section and have no luck. I am still trying to find out how to replaced the sparkplugs, coils, and fuel injectors (if needed), and even the knock sensors. Thanks! 007

The oil filter removal on the G50 is fairly straight forward. I have found that going at it from the top provides more room. Remove the top of the air box and the filter, then unbolt th ebottom and remove it. This gives you plenty of room to remove the filter.

I'm assuming that you are working under the engine to remove the filter. It's really a tight area. I have a Vise Grip 12LC Large Jaw Locking Pliers that I bought from HomeDepot @ 10 years ago. It always work, regardless of the oil filter size and location. You can also use a Channellock or equivalent Oil Fillter Pliers, for $20 or less (it's a pliers, not a swivel handle or band type oil filter removal tool). It should would in your Q. Just a reminder, always hand-tight the oil filter during installation.
