She's a girlie girl in her mid 50s, and really hasn't been driving the Q much (the T-Bird is her car), but we've been using it to commute to the lake this year, so she's had to take it to town on my days off when I stay at the lake.

Well. Monday morning, she got it into her head to just keep the pedal down after entering the freeway bright and early at 6:00 AM. Nice and smooth, not a full WOT, but you know how the Q is - it just wants to go faster, heheh. So she let it. Not much traffic, nice smooth Interstate - ahem.

She sheepishly admitted it when she got back to the lake that evening.

(I suggested she not do that again, until I put something other than H-rated tires on it).

How fast has your wife/gf gone, and how did she like it? Wife loved it.

Loads of fun!

BUT:

1. I strongly recommend that you have higher speed rated tires on it if she does it again.

2. A tire that has a patch of any kind (for a repair) is instantly de-rated in the top speed. You must not take patched tires to their original rated speed - going 140mph on a patched H-rated tire is most unsafe!

3. Tires heat up when run at high speeds. You must have a few extra psi in there (see the owner's manual!) to avoid having blowouts. Remember the underinflated SUV Firestone tire debacle? People driving with under-inflated tires, at normal highway speeds, caused the sidewall to flex, heat up, and blow out - with fatal consequences.

My old Q, she brought it up to 100 for a good 10 mile stretch. Wide open highway early in the morning. I had the car up to 140 myself but never her.

My wife has had her up to 120. She says, "Ooh, this is fun!" I say, "Ooh, keep both hands on the wheel!"

My wife is an ex-racer. We met at Daytona. She did 186 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in a Winston Cup car.

She doesn't like to drive real fast on the highways, but loves speed.

I second that Jeff.....you have a very cool wife indeed. If I only could find a girl that was a little more street racer friendly as the only thing on them going at 140mph is their damn mouth when we are racing or me just driving fast.

btw...with my old POS BBS missing hub cap on the front in temporary replacement of my ill fated OZ Opera II wheel and the car pulling hard to the right sounding terrible with an exhaust leak I beat a dude from 60mph roll in a new 745 tonight on the way home from Happy Hour. Nothing better sometimes than wasting somebody when your car really looks like $hit with a different ugly old tire on the front not to mention a very noisey newly discovered (last night) exhaust leak in the mid-pipe. A bolt came loose from when we installed the 4.08 rearend (had to drop the exhaust) and so it really sounds like $hit right now so off to the hardware store tomorrow morning for another bolt.

I respectfully disagree... I talked to the people at tire rack and discount and the kind of patches that are from the inside out (where they dismount the tire and fix the inside) are warranted under their warranty and are also convered by the manufacturer... The tech said the tires are just safe as they were before....

You may disagree, Wes, but Z is correct. All manufacturers exempt their tires from any performance guarantees once the carcass structure is compromised.

A penetration is a serious compromise.

Inspired by Rob, I was at a light today where 3 lanes went to 2, and either the Impala SS or I was ceding the lane. He ceded to me, somewhat surprised, I bet. It was close until about 45, then sayonara SS.

Wes, you are absolutely correct that patches are safe for all normal highway speeds that we drive at. It is the high speed issues, at or near the max rated speed of the undamaged tire, that are a concern!

For example, look at the following quotes:
From the Michelin warranty manual available at http://www.michelin.com wrote:Speed ratings are based on laboratory tests which relate to performance on the road, but are not applicable if tires are underinflated, overloaded, worn out, damaged, altered, improperly repaired, or retreaded.
From the Tire Rack paper on speed ratings (see http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...ge=38) wrote:It is important to note that speed ratings only apply to tires that have not been damaged, altered, under-inflated or overloaded. Additionally, most tire manufacturers maintain that a tire that has been cut or punctured no longer retains the tire manufacturer's original speed rating, even after being repaired because the tire manufacturer can't control the quality of the repair.
From the Bridgestone/Firestone web site (see http://www.tiresafety.com/size...a.htm) wrote:NOTE: The speed rating is void if the tires are worn out, damaged, repaired, retreaded, or otherwise altered from their original condition. If tires are repaired, retreaded, or otherwise altered, they should not be operated at higher than normal highway speeds.
It is pretty clear!

More interesting: driving at 5mph on the highway or parking at 140mph!

LOL, me and 2 friends watching pr0n and staying up for 3 days on monsters, no doz and coffee.....

I-15 Los Angeles->Salt Lake City (never going back)

hit the rev limiter in the top gear, don't know how fast we were going, but the speedo was topped out. We have a video of it somewhere, there was some stupid EVO that was chasing us, too bad he couldn't go that fast, LOL. anyway, never doing that again.

Oh, BTW, the staing up and stuff was after this. This was on the way out, THEN we didn't sleep and drove home (started friday 6AM->Work->SLC->Home, Sunday 9PM) Don't EVER do that!

Wow. Lucky.

Nothing I find sexier than a girl in a fast car or a really big SUV. I almost fell in love when a friend of mine came driving her sister's boyfriend's Expedition.

since the steering wheel is really soft you have to be carefull a Qat 140 is like a buick doing 100..... the body rool is annoying but if you drive 120+ occasionally you wont have trouble enjoying your Q ship at 140mph

With a good (fresh) suspension and good tires the G50 only rides better and better. Couple that with a trans. cooler and you won't even see or feel any sort of heat.

The time I got mine up to my speed limiter (indicated 155) I was on my Z rated tires. I've never been in a car so sure footed at that speed. Felt like a vacuum was sucking the car down. That was on an empty four mile highway that wasn't opened or even marked for lanes yet.

After a while 140 feels like 70 and 120 feels like 55.

The Q handles high speeds exceptionally well. Another car I enjoyed at 100mph+ was a Lincoln Mark VIII.

Have fun. Be safe.

Nothing I hate more than doing 80-100 MPH on the highway and having to do 45 when I get off. I don't even feel like I'm moving anymore.

My wife is ok with speed on the interstate, but I don't really let her drive the Q much. In town where I cruise around slow, she rips around!

I've had my Q45 up to 125 mph on the turnpike for several quickly traveled miles (my husband wasn't with me because he'd have a cow and ***** non-stop). I was wondering if the car had some kind of speed limiter because I'd swear I had the pedal all the way down and I didn't get over 125 mph.

It was a total blast, though; and the car handles like a dream...smooth as glass. I love this car. It only needs about 80 more horespower and more low-end torque and it'd be perfect.
