Okay, Niconauts. The Audi Club is renting out the main track plus Jefferson Circuit at Summit Point Raceway October 3-4 for their HPDE. It has a nice paved paddock, perfect for a Nico mini meet. Registration opens July 11th

For those unfamiliar with Summit Point, it's not that far from Baltimore or WashDC. Located near Winchester Va and Harpers Ferry. its a fun, 10 turn, 2 mile track, with a nice rythmn to it. The Jefferson Circuit is a wickedly fun twisty 1.1 mile circuit with every conceivable type of turn.

1st timers would spend a day at both tracks, as well ascar control excercises, some classroom time, and time on the skidpad (real drifting). Then the second day would be on the main track.

There's no trading paint or racing here, as it's a school with instructors in the car with you. But you will be able to hit triple digit speeds pretty easily without worrying about cops or distractions. Audi also encourages students to ride with instuctors when the passenger seats are open. The instructor with the Carrera Gt had a grinning passenger every single time he went out at the last event. You don't need an Audi to attend. No special requirements for you or your car. And yes there are several Japanese cars that attend these events, including a stock 350z (ahem).

If you'd like to check out Summit Point Raceway, here is their link.http://www.summitpoint-raceway.com/

Here are the costs for a 1st timer. One year Audi membership $44School $325Helmet rental if you don't have one $40

Price includes event shirt, and banquet. that's pretty cheap fortwo days at the track with instruction in your own car.

Most folks that do one of these events get hooked. It's mecca for sportscar enthusiasts.

Fred: this one is not far from Elkton...

This sounds like a winner!!! I was at Summits point this weekend for Hyperfest and I was impressed with the HPDE school. I was supposed to leave Sunday morning but ended up staying at the NASA meet HPDE school and NASA competition. I'm thinking about signing up for the class coming up in September when NASA comes back to town. It would definitely be a great place to host a NICO meet.

I agree. the paddock is paved making it a great place for a NICO mini meet. It really is a great old track, and conveniently located if you live in PA,DE, MD, VA, DC. Not really that far from NJ either. Lotsa car clubs representin' at these schools too. BMWCCA, PCA, Subie, Miata, Corvette clubs, even some Triangle Z guys show up occasionally, A real mishmosh of enthusiasts, from box stock civics to Full race Ferrari's. Very friendly laid back group of enthusiasts. Last year there were two instructors in Nissans. A sentra and a 350z. We need more Nissans.

The skid pad is also big, and yes, they wet it down, so you won't kill your tires. I've enjoyed doing 1-2 lap power slides around it. Way fun.

I've been doing these events for years. I ran my old stock S13 at many of them. It was awesome fun chasing down big horsepower cars in a 140hp 240sx on all season radials in the twisty sections and having them give me a pass signal. Very satisfying (ahem)The hills aren't large at SP, so low horsepower cars perform very well there

I hope some of you check it out.

Hey, just wanted to bump this up to remind that registration is open for this track event and it's only about a month away. I have someone transferring some in-car video I shot at the last SP event over to DVD. I hope to post a lap here to give y'all a flavor just how much fun Summit Point is for car nuts.

Regards

Is there a deadline by which we have to register? I live in NJ and am very interested but I don't have the money know, wondering what's my last chance to pay.

I believe they have still have spots open in all run groups, so I don't think you'll have a problem getting in. If you email one of the eventmasters, like Jeff, he might set it up to let you pay when you check-in. A buddy of mine in Baltimore just signed up for it last night. (Last year he drove a stock mini cooper S. Fun little car. I'm not sure what he's bringing this year).

Let me know what happens..

I've heard nothing but good things about the Audi Club. Just remember, you HAVE to join the Audi Club to participate!!

Events during the week generally means not many people, which = MORE TRACK TIME!!

I would love to go but my Prelude needs new tires, brakes, and a windshield. I settle on my new house on the 14th so money is tight. My 240 barely runs.

You're right, you gotta join the club in order to attend, but it's only $44 for a year, so you could do as many events as you want in that year for the $44. They also do shared events with other clubs like PCA (porsche club), Mercedes, and BMW like autocrosses, and road rallies, giving you access to a bunch of stuff without paying other club fees.

The next Audi event is VIR the weekend before Thanksgiving. Registration is already open for that. VIR usually sells out well in advance, so I'll post something about it next week.

I'm leaving for SP tomorrow morning. I'll bring my camera and post some pics when I get home.

Regards.

Good post! I wish I could come out because I know this will be a GREAT even, especially this time of year!!

I will most likely see you sometime next year. I need to get things settled before I can get back out there.

Do you run your 350Z out there? I will run either my 92 Red Prelude or a white 89 240. If you see me out there, stop by and say Hi.

Keep us updated on any other events.

I just posted a recap in the general chat section with pics. Yep, I use the Z, I also drive it to/from the track too. At some point I suppose I should invest in a trailer as the Z rides a bit stiff on long trips.
