Last night I was on a parking lot full of posers and clowns (excpet for me and my NICO buddies of cpurse..)..

I had my spare tire + jack out of the car but nearly full tank of gas...Tire pressure were 38 front 35 rear on Nitto 555Z UHP tires.I make about 340hp to the wheels on 7 psi, so using the 15% rule its about 400 hp at the crank.

Suddenly this Z32 TT pulls in, clean, not quiet, real wide true duals.

He parks close to my beautiful DB Z33 and we chat a bit.

I noticed he has a huuuuuge intercooler and I ask him about it, he discloses he has upgraded turbos and recently had bigger intercooler and a "few things" done to it including a retune.

He can run 22 psi on race gas and 14 psi in daily driving and turns it up some, for a race he says......

he's a younger guy, maybe around 20.., but its clear this isn't a hack job, but a well put together seriously faast Z32..

I disclose a bit about my car and he seems genuinely interested, even tho my 7 psi pulley doesnt touch his numbers.

After some friendly banter we decide on a friendly race...

Now Guys I am no fool , you cant be a Nico Staff member for almost 5 years w/o learning a bit about Mods on Nissans, even cars you never owned.

So I <knew> his car was <seriously> fast and figured with upgraded turboes me migth be pushing 500-600 hp at the crank, ..certainly at <least> mid 400's at the wheels..

Sooo... we left to a spot, he said was real safe from Cops..

And it was..a..bout a third of a mile, to half of a mile long, to race and then with some slow time space before the stop sign...

He proceeds top let the tire pressure out in the rear and then does a couple burnouts to warm up his tires.

I figure man this guy is pretty serious about winning..!

In any case, we line up, he gets a beautiful launch and mine is marginal he just destroys me in the first run.

I wasnt surprised much of course as I had expected to lose..

But being a good sport, I ask for another run.--

We line up and the groupies watch ( the race between a supercharged 350Z and a twin turbo highly modded 300ZXTT had attracted some onlookers who followed us from the lot)

When the starter drops his arms, we both launch at the exact same time.

I get in a <perfect> launch,!..I never had this good a launch ever !!

Both cars just CATAPULT off the line! it must have been an awesome sight, to any onlookers

very Moviesque...

be cause of my great launch and the more benign driving characteristic of an SC vs a big Turboes, he is struggling to try to pull away and we run neck to neck until almost 100 mph when he finally beings to pull away.

At 130 I shut it down, by flashing my high beams in a "you won" signal.

Even though I lost, the second run was real exhilirating and I am real pleased with my car keeping up for at least a bit with him and possibly even beating off the line.

I believe if I had had a 9 psi pulley it would have been closer yet.

Fred..:

PS: More Mods just on the car, as of 30 Jun see sig.

I was gonna post this on teh Z forum at first.

but i am kinda proud of performance of car and driver,.. and I figured most Niconauts dont travel much to sub forums of cars other than their own, but just read their own car subforum and then Nico general. So here it is in Nico general

I wish my Friday nights were that fun. Sometimes its hard to meet nice people in my area. I tend to run into jackasses at lights and the neon light crew at Burger King.

Thanks for posting this, Fred. I love it when people enjoy driving the car they own.

Way to go FRED!!! You must be getting much better at shifting those gears. You should know better then to go out without your camera.

Sweet. Z face-off! Too bad none of the onlookers had a video camera.

I wish I had what you've got on your Z under the hood of the A34. I'd love to be able to keep up with well built, modded Z32s!

I know how you hate rattles, but if it helps you shift faster then I say keep it.

Stock clutch Still ging strong:

Stuff thats going in before the weekend:

YpipeHighflow catsnew plugs (one step coldr iridium)Retune ( or possibly even AAM reflash but that adds lotsa $$ and renders my J&S a questionable expense, as it then contributes not very much anymore once a reflash is in there..)EGT gauge9 psi Pulley (up from 7)

Very nice, alwyas nice to gout and meet other Z guys that are cool. One other thing you had the advantage on was the fact that you weigh less then he does and also im guessing you're rear end is probably close to like a 4.08 or so when his is a 3.63 which helps you pull out of the hole faster little things that give big advatages like those help in a race.
