I purchased three cans of seafoam at Autozone for $5.99 a piece. I only used one and a half today. The great thing about seafoam is that it can be used in 3 different ways to clean different systems.1. Gas Tank to clean fuel injectors....2. Crankcase (Oil) cleans lifters, PVC systems, ect...3. Injector or Carburetor cleans valves, and carbon build up

So there are three ways to put it into your car.1. Just add it to your gas tank.2. Mix it in with your oil.3. Add into your direct manifold vacuum line to feed all the cylinders. -I go into detail below on this step.

To go about using seafoam in your manifold vaccume line you need to think about which one you are going to use. I decided to use my PCV valve, you can also use your brake booster line as well.

(this is done on a 1992 Mazda Miata)

Step 1- Get the car's engine hot. So go up to autozone and grab yourself a bottle of seafoam.

Step 2-locate PCV valve.

Step 3- Now keep the car on and slowly pour seafoam into the valve. The car is going to struggle. You want to put about 1/3 of the bottle in here. My engine did not stall so after the 1/3 i turned it off. Let the car sit for like 5mins or so.

step 4- Start up the engine and start reving it. You will see this behind your car...

Congrats you just seafoamed your car.

This is my first write up so if there is anything you want to add go for it.

NAPA and autozone carry it. At autozone its next to all the fluids and cleaners.

Seafoam cleans out everything. It cleans out the carbon deposits and gives your car a better idle

That's all fine and dandy, but this is how you really sea foam your car

I'm still a little skeptical about seafoam. Have there been any long term studies on what seafoam does to your engine? Not that I've seen. Just think about it. THat stuff is MORE corrosive then gas! It is able to remove the build up from your engine that gas normally doesn't. Now, I bet you've all used gas to clean the grease/crap off your hands at one time in your life. That's pretty strong just by itself.

I'd like to see what it does to the rings, valve seals, O2 sensor, etc... Probably tears that crap up!

Nice job. When I did it I used my brake booster line and rather than trying to pour it in I just poured the amount I wanted to use in a cup and then let the vacuum suck it up. Nice write up though.

Seafoam helped me pass emissions last year. NOx was too high, so I retarded timing a bit and ran a treatment. Miraculously, HC and CO went down too.

If you use seafoam once a year at emissions time, I doubt you'll do much damage as far as corrosion is concerned.

PMQ, it might hurt the car if you left it in the system undiluted by everything in your engine for long periods of time... but you don't.

Yeah, as you said, gasoline is pretty corrosive nowadays and it runs through your car all the time. You make me confused. Like, are you an electrician or a chemist? Somebody 'splain it to me...

hahah, i love how they don't warn you at all about the amount of smoke that billows out of your exhaust after treating the engine... all they say is to work in a well ventilated area because "extreme fuming may occur"My nextdoor neighbors came out and wondered if I had f'ed my engine when the whole culdesac was smoked out.

I ran some in my 91 240 and it worked great.

While Off and warm i put 1 cup : crank casehalf a can : gas tankWhile running and warm1 cup : Brake booster line going into the intake plenum. and then killed the engine when i got it all in.

Let the engine sit for 5 or 10 minutes and then let a rip.

Once i started it i had to keep some gas on or it would die and black smoke went everywhere. I drove the **** out of it up and down the street a few times.

I continued to drive it pretty hard for the next week. Then after i was pretty sure i had gotten all the carbon build-up out of there i did an oil change at 500 miles.

It burns oil as of now, but it did that before anyways, i guess it just cleaned out some of the gunk build up in seals here and there..... but i dont have any other problems than that....

So using this stuff is a good idea.

first, if i were to put this seafoam stuff in my gas tank, how much gas should i have in the gas tank? should it be full tank or 1/4 of tank? second, do you need an oil change right after you add the seafoam to your crank case? what do you do after you rev up your engine and added seafoam to your oil?

I just got the seafoam from GI JOE's and it was only 5.99

I have what is very likely to be a clogged IACV. Will seafoaming the car clean it up, or do i have to rip the thing off (PITA!) and clean it?

Nope, IACV takes intake air. Doesn't take air from the intake. The only way you could clean that without physically removing it is with a fogger, but those don't work too well anyways.

Just bite the bullet and remove it

240sx, yeah i searched but removing the manifold is almost as time consuming as taking the IACV off without doing so.

I've been dying to use Seafoam on my car. I've still got 3 cans I bought last summer. Problem is that I don't want to foul my spark plugs that only have 1,000 miles on them. (Just finished SR swap 1 month ago, don't want to replace the NGK's just yet.)

Oh well at least I can run it in the gas tank and oil for now.

Good catch

I would also recommend putting some in a spray bottle and blowing it in your airbox/intake tube (before the maf). Not much as to ruin the maf but to clean the sensor and TB.
