Hi guys,

I've had my 94 Q45 for about a year now and this is my first major work to be done. Ever since I bought the car, I've been hearing the humming noise from the back of rear seat which I know is the fuel pump.

Since the last month or so in about 10-20% of the time the car wouldn't start but it would eventually, until yesterday. Now it won't even try to come on.

Starter and battery are both good. No fuel is being sent to the engine. We took it apart today and tested the fuel pump, and it works however NO electricity is coming to it in order to make it work.

So I know the fuel pump is good.

What other possible things should I check???Tell me where they are and how to check em??I know the fuel controller might be another issue. How do I test this?

OVER ALL..........What should I do???

THANKS

Your worn fuel pump most likely fried your fuel pump controller...

youll need to replace your fuel pump (250 new) and FPCU (500 new)...

If the car is stranded you can ground the fuel pump contorl unit and at least drive it home.

Thanks Wes for the quick response.

I'm afraid I'm already past the trying to drive home. Mr Tow man already did it for me.

So, eventhough the fuel pump works, is it possible the FPCU to be fried up prior to the FP going out?

where can I find a good deal on the FPCU?Should I risk purchasing a used one from the junk yard?If so, how would i know if its working?

I like the car alot and am planning on keeping it. For how long, I don't know?

You can usually find a FPCU under $75 on ebay or various nationwide wrecking yards. Check http://www.car-part.com.

I suggest getting a used fuel pump controller from somebody parting out their car.

Definitely get a new pump from Joe. I bet that is what burned up your controller.

It is likely that the fuel pump is what caused the controller to die - the humming you heard was the pump going bad!

So, if you replace the controller without replacing the pump, then the replacement controller may die soon afterwards too.

Way better to do both.

Agreed..

I would get a used one, but you may take it out and look at the PCB to inspect for any burn marks... That should tell you if the FPCU is OK...

Romo, I've got a rebuilt spare. I just sent you an e-mail at your address.you will still need to do your pump, but this will get you rolling again.
