Here's the scenario:
When I took my engine to the machine shop to have all this work done on it, a lot of the external engine components (like brackets, braces, motor mounts, etc) were still bolted onto the block. Those components that were removed had all the bolts in their appropriate, respective holes so I wouldn't forget where they went.... I did not take a picture of the engine minus intake/exhaust manifolds, unfortunately, and my memory isn't that great and this was about 7 weeks ago...
So I picked up my engine last Wednesday, and the guy hands me a large box of stuff that bolts onto the engine, as well as about 40 or so bolts and says "here, you're gonna need all of these!" (I could have sworn he was grinning when he handed them to me). The great thing about all these bolts is that almost all of othem were the exact same diameter and thread pitch, so they could have gone in multiple holes in the block; they only varied a few millimeters in length. Luckily I was able to pretty much figure out where all the bolts went (not thanks to my Chilton's FSM, which is terrible) by seeing if they bottomed out when threading in and using some common sense. Long story short, the engine is just about ready to go in, but I still have some bolts left and I have NO CLUE where they go.
Here are the bolts:
The four big ones do not fit in any of the remaining holes in the block, and they are of a bigger diameter than almost all the other bolts used for the block. What's weird is that if you look at the picture, the tapered bottom of these 4 bolts look like they are stripped and used to have threads?
Now heres the pictures of all the remaining holes that bolts could potentially go into:
This is the fire-wall side of the head. There are three holes (the pipe at the bottom is the EGR line, on the far left of the picture is the last runner of the turbo manifold), and the two black semi-circles are part of the rubber valve cover gasket.
The two smaller bolts in the picture fit these holes, but I know these holes bolt to the exhaust side of the block to hold wires for the downpipe. Any idea what, if anything, goes here? I can't find a thing..
The following picture shows the exhaust side of the block.
At the left of the picture (held in by four bolts) is the bracket that holds the motor mount. There are two holes without bolts to the right of this. The one lone bolt in the first picture threads into both of these. Is anything supposed to go here? I don't have any pieces left over in or out of the engine bay that I can find, and none of the bolts in the picture fit these holes.
Next is a picture of the intake side of the cylinder head. In the top left corner is the fuel rail.
What attaches to the two holes at the top left corner of the picture? I'm assuming some grounding wires that are part of that huge bundle of wires/connectors that runs along the fuel rail...And that metal eyelet at the bottom of the picture is the end of the wire that runs to the knock sensor...where should I bolt this one in? I don't think it really matters as long as it's screwed in somewhere around the area...it could probably go in the two holes in the top of the picture even
The next picture is the intake side of the block. The cylindrical thing is the starter.
Does anything go in either those 2 holes to the left of the starter or the hole to the bottom of the starter? I'm thinking maybe no since all of these holes are pretty rusted (albeit threaded), meaning there probably weren't bolts in their previously...
That's it for now...I just want to make sure I'm not forgetting something major before it goes back in...
Any help is much appreciated
