all you really need is the material and glue that will hold up to the heat in hot days. I am using 3M Super Trim Adhesive.

between 1 and 10 in the range of dificulty I would rate it as around 3, maybe 4.

my whole interior is brown so I am converting it to black and gray. Thank goodness the wife knows how to sew so she will be doing the seats in the same gray texture with black vynil borders....

anyway, there is a dye that I used to dye the doors. again, nothing too difficult just precausion in the preperation.

The way I see it.. I am too poor to buy anything new and the interior could no longer stay the same beat up brown color so.... patience and "do-overs" are your friend!!

OH yea, and I just won a bid on ebay for 2 paint sprayers... all for $16.99! The summer will be a busy one!

Well done!

Getting that fabric to lay right on such compound curves is impressive!

THa tis extremely impressive

Question: How did you get the material to sit and stay flat on that 90 degree bend? I've done some vinyl and 90s with a curve are absolutely horrible. What kind of adhesive did you use?

About what was the cost of the material?

I changned the fabric and the color of the door. I have also already done the glove box and next are the seats... until it is all black and gray.

Hey that looks really nice man. I really want to replace the horrible worn tweed in my car too. where did you go for the fabric? Also, the lines look really clean on the vinyl/fabric border. Did you remove that portion and wrap it with the material? The only other thing i can think of is that you trimmed the fabric really nicely. How did you do it?!

To be honest, I am not sure where the wife bought the material. But she bought the fabric and some black vynil. I plan to use the vynil on the visors, seats and the dash.

The fabric itself is just tacted on there. When you remove the panel you will start seeing areas where you can grab and start peeling it off. Once it was off, I cleaned the area, added my own tact and layed the fabric strictly by eye. If you want to make 'sure' that the lines don't go down or up you might want to use a ruler.

I used the old fabric as a template and I cut the new fabric like 3 inches bigger. Once I started laying it down I cut the overhang to about an inch all around. I sprayed some tact into the grove.. Then I used my oil painting pallet knife to make the edge go into the groove.

if I were you I would get a fabric that didn't have lines... it is so much easier.

That looks sooo sweet.

Can you go through your paint dying procedure for the door?

I want to apply that to my dash .

& good job on that groove! I was never able to get mine to fully seat in the groove.

Great job, I can't see any difference from stock.

I want to get rid of the black and white tweed crap on my door panels and glove box and replace it with suede, but working with fabric intimidates me. I know Im gonna rip it up and never be able to get it looking nice...one day I'll start the project.

Your's are awesome though, how about I send my doors and the fabric to you and you do it for me

ship them over! I am half way done with my entire interior. Notice on this pic a lot of brown?

Well I am down to simply having the seats brown. Everything else is now black and gray. The wife is sewing the seats with the same gray fabric with black vynil. can't wait. Once done, I will make a site with all that I did to the interior and how it was done.

Seriously though, it wasn't that hard. It is so much easier to lay down the fabric once you are using tack. If you try to fit it with out the tack, you will never get it work. the Tack makes the difference.

Looks awesome, I have a 89 hatch with a black interior, much better than the old car with brown. lol. Only problems now are the glove box and the door panels. I'm gonna try to get ahold of some suede like material and give it a shot - your work is inspiring, lol.

check this out:

http://cms.3m.com/cms/GB/en/2-29/reclEW/view.jhtml

look at Bonding Upholstery

I can't seem to find the product onLine becuase our internet filters filter too much crap but it is a 3M Product.

Also, do not buy the spray adhesive you find at a fabric store. You need something stronger.
