long block? short block?

hey all i just bought a new block for my 240, just wanted to know if there is a difference between a short block and a long block(please do not state the obvious)

you know, the obvious to me is simple, short and long, the words itself , thats it

short block is just a block and its internals. long block is the block, head, internals, oil pan, valve cover.

neither usually include any manifolds.

Long block should also have timing components and timing covers, plus water pump, spark plugs, maybe some temp sensors. Nothing to do with length, it's funny when you tell someone you got a new long block and they ask you if you had any fitment problems.

some manufacturers don't include the pans/covers... just reman'ed head + engine block w/ reman'ed/new internal components.

True, true. What you get from 3rd party shops needs to be negotiated/resolved before you buy. But what you get from the factory won't vary. When I read "new" I was thinking NEW new.
