Definitely composite video cables if your DVD player and television are equipped for it.

HDTV and HDTV-ready sets have composite video inputs - most others do not.

Well, actually what you're thinking of as composite is really component, but yeah, that's the best. (Seperate red, green, and blue connectors). Component is the only connection capable of transmitting a progressive scan picture (IIRC), as opposed to an interlaced picture, which is something you'll want to take advantage of with a HDTV.

Composite connector(s): Single, usually yellow RCA-type connector (good quality)S-Video connector: Single mini-DIN like connector (better quality)Component connectors: 3 red, green, and blue RCA-type connectors (best quality)

Those of you who don't have HDTVs will probably not notice much, if any, difference between composite, S-Video, and component; it takes a fairly discerning eye to detect the differences, in most cases, though an HDTV can present an exception. Hope that helps.
