I got a brand new XS POWER FMIC 24"x12"x4"and to install it and make the custom pipes, I am having to relocate the BAttery, remove the hood latch and everything in between the bumper and the radiator area, and remove the headlight bracketsthe guy at the muffler shop said this will give me turbo lag due to the size of the intercooler, ???I dont think so I always heard the bigger the better..please give me your opinions, my car is a 97 240 with a 95 SR20det I will keep the T28 for a few months and later go wth a T3/T4top mount..hope someone han give me their opinion.this thing is huge..here is a pic.

an intercooler that is too big for your turbo set up will slow you down, not make you faster. The air has to travel further since the intercooler is larger, making it less efficent. Those MASSIVE intercoolers should really only be used when you have a big turbo and are running a good amount of boost.

So basically basically the only bad thing is that it is 4" thick instead of 3" ?because Iv'e been looking around and most of the newer designs are 24-23 long 12"-11" high and 3" thick.would it make that much of a difference?I mean is it a significant amount of power i will be loosing?

not power, throttler response and lag will be affected noticably.

i think i will keep it for now, till i get the T3/4 turbo in.. and if its still having Lag ill trade it or sthing...thx for the help and opinions though...by the way, the T3/4 is a pretty good one to put in right, i saw a top mount type manifold, and T3 turbo brand new for about 170-220 each

i have a hybrid intercooler, dimensions 30.25 x 11.5 x 3 inches, and it seems to spool about 200 rpms later then what other people are saying their stock 240s spool. that is at7 psi, i never got to turn up the boost. and fitment was awesome, you do have to remove the battery and put a big hole there and take off your front bumper support. but other then that you dont have to do anything.

well think about it, going from 3" to 4" thick makes the entire intercooler 33% larger, thats alot of extra room to pressureize for little to no gain

You'll have lag, so what? You'll have lag with the T3/T4 too. It'll cool well at high boost, so it'll give you MORE power. It may just hurt the powerband a tiny bit. No biggie.

Mine is about the same size. On the T25 it was kinda bad, but with my GT2540R .86 it's great. I spool around 4400 tho

thats the turbo, not the fmic. my friend has a blitz ic on same turbo and doesn't spool til 4500, so consider yourself lucky.

i wouldn't worry about it much. put it on and see how she does, lag should be not too much noticeable over something like a vspl... and the cooling abilities are nice. i know with the vspl i am just about hitting the limit.

i have the same exact intercooler(4" thick) and i just finished the piping and installed it 2 days ago, and damn does my car pull like hell now, even at the same 10psi that i was running on the smic, the lag and throttle response is VERY minimal, but the power has increased a lot, it feels so much smoother through the rpm's now,

so i turned the boost up a couple turns today(mbc), thinking that i was gonna lose a couple pounds through the pipes and fmic, but it spikes to about 16psi and holds 14psi firmly all the way through the gears

so all in all im very happy with this intercooler but if i was u i would get the 3" core unless your goin over 400-450+whp

the exhaust sounds real good, very deep at idle then it REALLY opens up when u get on it, awesome exhaust for the price.

also i was testing the spool up time with this fmic yesterday, and it starts spooling at about 2800 rpm's then it hits 14psi by 3300-3400rpm's, i have video to prove it

anyone know the spool up time on a greddy v-spl 3" core, just want to see if it spools up about the same rpm's as the 4" core

but also when i thought i had my mbc up all the way it actually wasnt, i turned it another full turn last night and in 4th and 5th gear i was holding 18psi(stock t25) no BS, i will show u guys in my next vid

dude...you turned your boost up to 18psi on the stock t25?!? i sure as hell hope you have an aftermarket fuel pump.....but in any case the turbo isn't supose to flow that much and it is gonna fall apart (or explode) if you keep it at that

yes i have a 255 pump, and yes the t25 wont last long maxed out, but who cares i have a gtir t28 waitin to get put on after this one stops holdin boost, but actually i turned my boost controller another turn and it spikes to 22psi and holds 15psi 1st-3rd, and will hold 18psi 4th and 5th gear

i only ran it maxed out for like 3 pulls and it did fine but im gonna leave it at 14psi now

heres a video of me spooling http://0601.netclime.net/1_5/U/P/2/Spoolin.wmv

kinky. just run it without a boost controller and no signal to the wastegate
