GREAT read!!!

I just read it all... They really designed that V12 with love!

Id like to see how the VH45 compares to that!

Those BMW V12 are infamous for bad leaks from everywhere..

Still interesting read:)

But only 296 HP@5200, 332 lb/[email protected] a little less than a 90-93 Q with just JWT ecu. The V12 stroke is 3.31" vs Q 3.256"

4 valves per cylinder obviously beat 2, but the BMW torque was good off idle thanks to only 2 valves.

332/4.988l= ~~66.6 lb/ft per liter about 4% less than stock Q [307 lb/ft]....pretty durn good but it was expected as a BMW.........8.8:1 CR vs 10.2:1 for Q

This was the bench mark ----build a V8 that was very close to V12 and out perform it due to lighter weight. Nissan split the difference 4.0 vs 4.5 vs 5.0 against Toyota first try 4.0 V8.

Nice to see internals. The Q engine is easier to work on and very very very few look anywhere as bad with more mile than this 180k V12 BMW. However Q bearings often look worse.........due to abusive owners and knock sensors [higher compression= more knock more bearing wear].

The BMW held 7.5 liters of oil vs Q45 6 liters [more or less]

Exactly my thoughts, Dennis.

Thank you for another succinct analytical summary.

Eventually reached ~376 hp as a 5.6L. I do like the even throws of the crank. Not sure about the two separate oil galleries. Seems like over complication, but maybe necessary to maintain top end pressure.

Cam lobe squirt tubes..............same problem as G20........bad oil changes and they plug up [tiny outlet holes] starving cam lobes.

Like his idea of measuring oil pressure to squirt tubes.

The 2 valves are bigger and heavier thus require stiffer springs and cause more cam lobe wear.

375 from 5.6 liters [V8] about what one gets today if longevity is a consideration [not so with US V8 of 5.65 liters]............a 6 liter V8 vs a 5 liter V10 [BMW]...........vs 8 liter V10 viper [truck].

Do you think the V12 could handle more power than the VH45???

Say you were to use nitrous or SC or something along those lines.....

Buy a rod, piston, and rod cap bolts and test them?
