I'm not certain, but I think there's a fan relay in the relay box under the hood. You may want to tap it or wiggle it and see if the fan shuts off then. Maybe try replacing it if that doesn't work. I would think the next step would be the coolant temperature sensor.

Here is the thread I believe you're referring to on NICO along with a picture of what your problem might turn out to be if not a simple relay. I believe it's actually a Darlington Transistor - same thing screws up continually w/BMWs - read q45tech’s caution regarding the stopgap fix and the ultimate solution !

zer...13424

Only a $60-$70 part through Joe

Q45tech, once again, gives the definitive answer____________________________________________________________Q45tech / Super Moderator

"cause of the problem is the big silver object in the middle of the picture, "

No the cause of the failure is the motor drawing too much current overheating the transistors causing them to fail, but most do the temporary fix of replacing just the transistors. And buying some time.

Just like the bad fuel pump motor causes the FPCU to fail !____________________________________________________________

That little thing you unplugged that controlled the fan lets you still use the off button?

You said the climate control button would allow you to turn fan off after you removed that part? Mine won't allow it with the part hooked up..thats weird how by unplugging it you still have control...

You might want to take the motor apart, and clean up the stater and brushes. My motor was making noise, and hanging up. I pulled it apart, and re-sanded the brushes. The motor spins like new, and has been working fine for over a year now. There was a lot of lead dust in there, causing grooves in the brushes, and friction in the motor. I was lucky I fixed it, before it burned up the speed controller.

Please..can someone give me more directions on glove box removal.....I've read the other thread that Jesda gave me but I still can't figure it out.....Can't figure out how to get the little arms that hold it up-out...I've tried pulling-twisting and so on--gently but nothing...this fan noise is driving me bonkers.

WTF? How stupid can Infiniti Engineers be? Please don't delete this, it's got a purpose.

The main purpose of a variable speed "switch" is usually to adjust the ohms/restriction in the circuit that goes to the fan, this is usually done by the use of a potentiometer. So tell me, why in the hell did the Engineers have to make it more complicated then it really is?

Can you take a picture of where you're at currently? I mean of the car . That would make it easier for everyone to see EXACTLY what everyone is talking about

Yeah, I definitely need to see pictures of where youre at. Once you remove the little hanging strings, the rest is just a series of screw removals.

I think there are screws on the bottom of the door, that have to be unscrewed. I don't remember exactly, but Ido recall the frustration I had. After several minutes of scratching my head, it came apart very easily.

Do you have a manual?

It looks like there are 2 screws, that hold the entire glove box, door, and surrounding trim in place, along with a few metal clips. There is really no detailed description of how to remove the glove box. on page 924, in the BF section, there is a break-down image of the entire dash.

On the 90-93 there's a cover below the glove box area that needs to come off first. It's the same one that holds the floor light. Not sure if it's the same on 94+

Without a FSM, you don't have the correct tools.

Buy a one day subscription to http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infiniti/ and get a manual and all the TSB.

O.k.---jokes on me....on the 94 all you have to do is drop the kick panel(with little feet light)----it just pops of....10mm socket--there are 4 bolts(2 each side) on bottom and 2 in glove box....comes out in one piece....of course I didn't discover this till I had the glove box in a million pieces.....so I pulled out that electrical thing---it has what looks like-stalagtites(you know-what you would see in a cave)on the back side...very crude looking....with that thing disconnected I can put the two 15a fuses back in and turn off the fan function with the switch---but I'm limited to only high useage...so-how much is this little part?

When I call them--without a part #--looking for the silver thing in the glove box---they'll know? Do I ask for the illusive Mr. Joe?

I've spoken to Joe and some other folks there as well. They're all very knowledgeable and very courteous.

I believe its referred to as a fan speed sensor. Explain your problem and describe the part. They'll take care of you.
