Post Title: 92Q Ignition Key Removal - I HAVE searched.
Posted by: Q45Viper at 3:01 PM 6/23/2009

I have not been here for a bit as I was not using the car, started again and this pops up. Key won't come out.
I have searched endlessly here, indeed there seem to be more than a few threads where no one knows the answer.
Consulted Joe and Justin at Scottsdale as well as have the car at a professional shop that has some smart guys and I've known them and they have known the car for years.
Took the steering column apart, the issue is the small button won't release thereby locking the key in.
Everyone thought replace the solenoid as by manually tripping the solenoid with the column apart releases the key.
Got one from Joe, professionally installed by my guys...nothing, still does not come out without manually tripping it.
So is it the tumblers?
And the latest thing being considered is to somehow remove the solenoid or ignore it so the button does not lock up, it seems to be an unneeded safety feature.
So, can it be defeated so the button does not lock?
Is the tumblers the only other issue?
No diagnostics are offered according to my mechanics.
Any one help?

Are you the original, or was he Viper/Q45?

Anyway, I would suspect the lock cylinder. When you are able to extract the key manually, does it drag on the way out? The postive button lock on the key is switched (I believe) by the neutral/park switch on AT. Is this functioning well?

I'm the original owner, and I'm User Q45Viper, if that's what you meant.
Key seems to come out fine when the button releases, it just won't release without manually tripping it inside the column. I have all the original keys, they all act the same.
My mechanic and I were talking about the park interlock, if that's controlling it what needs to be done if it's not controlling it properly?
I wish there was a way to just defeat the dang thing.

Better to get it working properly, I would think.

Been on the board 5 years? If not, you're not the member of whom I was thinking.
