Post Title: what devices do you have connected?
Posted by: xtreme11 at 7:59 PM 4/8/2009

Hi All,

I would like to collect ideas of what electronic devices I can connect to the Aux video input. I do have an Ipod connected through the interface.

I look forward to hearing your ideas. Thanks

Xtreme11

Using the AUX feature you can add just about any peripheral device that has RCA outputs. Given the converters on the market the sky is the limit. However; video output is limited while the vehicle is in motion for safety reasons.

Welcome to the group and enjoy your EX.

I was just going to post a similar thread. With the override provided on this forum allowing you to use aux video while driving it seems like it could be very useful. If we all think together we can come up with a sweet setup.

I have been toying with the idea of putting a Mac Mini computer in there (I don;t know where it would go yet) and then getting an evdo card to connect to the internet while driving. Then I could load the computer with movies and tv shows, install an application like boxee which allows you to watch all the movies with a nice interface, and even connect to internet sites like hulu so you can watch current TV shows. I am unsure if the speeds I get from an EVDO card will be fast enough to support streaming video though, I bet it wouldn't.

Why a Mac and Boxee? I think a wireless keyboard and mouse option would be too bulky in the car, but I need a way to navigate my content. Boxee has an iPhone app which is pretty nice, and also works with the Apple remote which is really small. The only downside is that I could not use the other internet features, like browsing the web. I suppose you could rig up a mouse and keyboard, but to do it well will probably be quite pricey.

What do you guys think? Any ideas on how to get a Slingbox going in your car, it would be pretty cool to have live TV as you drive. There is a slingbox app for the computer, but again, you have keyboard and mouse problems.

Wow! and I thought I was a geek - I never thought of hooking up a netbook but that does sound a great idea!

Has anyone had success connecting your Android G1 phone to the car so you could stream music from your phone or watch youtube videos on the screen?

Does the G1 have any kind of video out socket?

The best i've done is to hook up my B'berry storm audio out to the audio in sockets, and done a youtube playlist of either music videos, or stand up comedians, and just balance the phone in landscape on the lip of the ashtray. Which is fine so long as you don't go round corners too quickly!

I don't know if there is any way of getting video off the phone and onto an external source, unless there is some kind of usb cable out there. Probably not.

I have a Storm as well. I'm going to have to try this on the weekend. Thanks for the idea!

Wow its just like we are thinking and using one brain Except that i am a mile ahead and its already installed with a WImax internet connection i used an Asus Eee pc900 with ubuntu OS and got a small 200W inverter connect the AUX to the audion and i even got a wirless keybored and mouse i used the cover for the cup holder as my mouse pad

and guess what i traviled about 500 KM to the east with a two hour movie playing its just perfect ( i know crazy )

you can try docking the labtop on top of the NAV using some of the chip chop tapes ( sorry don't know what they call it usually you find it in labtop bags and simply it makes a chip chop sound thats why i called it chip chop ) any ways ill post some pics later on
