Post Title: Window tint removal
Posted by: Patrick K at 6:08 PM 3/19/2009

If you lease thru Infiniti and tint your windows will you have to remove it before you turn the car in at the end of the lease, and if you do can you remove it from the rear window with out damage to the rear defrost? I have never tinted my windows before but I do like the look but I am concerned about turning the car in at the end of the lease. I am considering going with 35% all around that will make my front windows illegal in Ohio but it looks cool. If you have pictures of cars with tint that have not been posted already please post so I can get some ideas of what different percents look like. Thank you in advance.

Been meaning to post these for a while. However, I've forgotten what % tints I got. I have the invoice somewhere at the office, I'll look tomorrow.

Very nice! I think 35% all around looks stock and cop don`t mind it.

I had so many occasion where I stop in a 4 stop sign intersection and a

cop stop too, and waited for me to turn. I bet if he couldn`t see me inside

he would pull me over. Here in WI, they only allowed 50% front. I also

travel to Illinois where front tinting is illegal. So far 35% tint is acceptable.

I guess bec. it seems stock looking bec. front and back matches and most

oem tint at the rear is 35%.

No - no lessor in their right mind would force you to remove the tint unless it was all damaged, peeling and awful, in which case the car would look better without it, so removing it is a "no brainer", no matter the result.

I have no personal experience doing this, but I would think you can do this if you're careful and use something appropriate to dissolve the glue. Hopefully someone who's done this (successfully or otherwise) can chime in!!

Cheers,
David

Ha ha I win on Darkness of my tint 20% Front 5% Rear 20% Windshield but its not dark enough

Its all 3M so it comes off easy but I'm changing my front sides to 5%, and do my rear sides and Hatch to Double 5% and should only cost me a few Hundred And look Black.

Witch reminds me i still need to get a sheet of Huper Optik 20% on the sunroof to jam some of the 120° arizona heat

Next step is to Smoke the Head and Tail lights

RIoD -- I too live in AZ and once you are at 35% you have rejected over 90% of the UV and heat. Adding more tint will only cause you to get pulled over, and I don't even want to be driving next to you at night; talk about a freakin' safety hazzard and lane change accident waiting to happen...

Do you seriously have 20% tint on your windshield? I can't believe the Snottsdale po po's haven't gotten you yet.

I have a firend that does professional tinting, and he tints his work truck windshield (35%) and still gets pulled over 3 or 4 times a year with a fix-it ticket.

Why don't you just get the windows painted black and avoid all the hassles of installing that film?

Oh, and as for removing that tint, should you be forced to do so -- do this on a bright sunny day - preferably a hot day too -- NOT winter in Chgo, for instance.... cut out a heavy duty BLACK Hefty trash bag to the approximate size of the window. Lay a towel down underneath to catch to catch the drips, etc. NOW liberally spray the film on the window with water, then immediately stick the cut out bag over the water and lightly press in place, covering the entire inside of the window with the water and the bag. Park in the sun so that window gets the full on sun. In a few hours the film should just peel right off (basically it's like steaming wall paper off). Use something like "Goo Gone" to remove any residual adhesives left on the glass. Or if there's no wires or elements, just windex and a single edge razorblade works great!

Finally don't do this unless it's going to cost you big time if you don't remove it. Tinting typically RAISES that value of a car so they shouldn't make you pull it unless it's really damaged.
