What is LOLing about the drum shoes?
Not 100% sure on the colour yet.

I get this stuff by looking out for it and knowing exactly what I want.
I do NOT like how it looks right now. The white. ugh. black hood. ugh.

The paint on my old car was based on Toyota Speedway blue. We also mixed in a little extra something just for fun.
Paint colours I like right now
Honda tidewater blue - (fit)
Toyota Speedway Blue - (tacoma)
Dodge surf blue - (PT Cruiser)
Lexus Desert Sage - (IS350)
Toyota something green - (new Hybrid Camry)VW isotope green? - (Beetle, glow in the dark look)
That's about it for now.
I have the digital climate control in there, but it isn't hooked up to anything. It had an ENDLESS sticker on there instead.
I'm really leaning away from my old blue. It will look GREAT on the car, but I want to do something different.
I like this 13 as compared to the 14.
With all the bars in the car, it is SUPER solid. No complaints. The power is fine, The handling is fine, The braking is fine.
OH, paint again... Mazda has some nice colours on the newer 3s I think. One of them is kind of like the Emeralg colour on S14s... but better.
That's another option.
Also, Toyota has this dark teal sort of colour on the newer Corolla.

I'm not a Risky Devil. I'm a friend. I AM a pink godzilla.
I bought the car with some of the parts, but I did a lot of the stuff on my own. All the suspension I did, steering wheel, wheels, brakes, all the bars, cage, etc.

Builds are the best part about online blogs. It shows people what others are doing and its also shows who are the talkers, and who are the walkers. It also gives people a referance on how to do things. And on the very top of my list on why they are the best.... I'm so sick of threads where people ask what WE think they should do. Or call outs to this kind of car or that. Those are all pointless threads. Build threads show progress and are a benifit to all who see it.

Hey Brian! Luvin the stance of your new ride. What kind of suspension set up are you working with? coils or springs? I'm thinking about going with tanabe sustec pro s-oc coilovers or simply starting out with something inexpensive like eibach sportline springs to eliminate the hideous front wheel gap. what do you think?
sportlines still have super horrible gap, barely better then stock. Also they roll alot in hard cornering and still ride kinda harsh. I had KYB AGX's with them. Dont waste your time/money.
Nice s13 though. Ive always been a 180zx type x fan. I gotta build me one with a CA though....

I should have got them out of the old a** Signal car when I had the chance.
I'm getting some DMAX mats when they arrive in USA.
The 13 is pretty similar to the 14 (I think).
same power, some size tires, different car.
all the GT Spec bars are super good though. They tied the car together and it is SOLID.
I'm getting the front tower bar today actually. That will complete my list.
I thought I would suck so bad in a different car... but I only such a little.

You have got to be out of your mind if you think I can fit a 255 on the front.
1. I'm not going to run a bigger tire in front.
2. 215/40 is the BIGGEST tire I will run in front.
3. They are badass tires.

I'm starting to realize it is crazy to have this drift car with tons of money in it and not use it as much as I should.

Just out of curiosity, is there some significance to that red dragonfly on your console? I mean he looks cool and matches the seats, just wondering.
I'm sure the car will look very nice when its done, your s14 was one of my favorite ones to look at, but i think it looks pretty sick in white/black. Thats very close to the paint scheme id like, except like with a black roof and lip on a stock chuki bumper. Sweet car though, i'm building my car soon and wasn't looking forward to the cage part because of the interior deletion but i really like how you've fit them all back on around the cage, i'll have to give this a shot. Nice work

215/40-17 Falken ST115 front
225/45-17 Falken ST115 rear
Those were badass.
then, I changed to these
215/40-17 Federal SS595 front
215/45-17 Federal SS595 rear
I have no negatives about those tires at all.

I don't know how to describe the colour properly. Indoors it seems to be more green. Outdoors, it's more goldish. Desert Sage Metallic, more or less.
The paint job wasn't very much. I did most of the work.
thanks all.
Type X "kit" - The front bumper and extensions as well as the skirts and wing came with the car when I bought it. I bought the lip from Performance Nissan. I got the rear valences from a local guy. Position lamps from DMAX. Hood from DMAX. Mirrors from a local guy (LUCKY!!!!).
taillights from Performance Nissan and I think the Center Garnish was from West CO Nissan.
I did NOT paint the jambs. I didn't really care to do THAT much work. They are white. Can't see any of it through the cracks, so I don't care.
I would LOVE to see it on a shirt.

And I didn't mean a KA-T CAN (or should) be done cheaply. I meant that a $1500 KA-T is not, in my opinion, something I'd own.
I have probably $6K in mine, and we did all the fabrication in-house.
Hell, my intercooler piping ALONE would cost $1K to replicate, and most shops wouldn't do as good a job as we did.

Anyways
KA turbo - no thanks. Dont look cool enough. Valve cover is ugly compared to SR20.
RB - I don't want an illegal engine in my car.
I'm pretty content with what I've got.
Everytime I drift, people assume I have a SR and don't believe me when I tell them it's a stock KA.
I can bring one extra pair of wheels and drift the whole weekend.
I'm happy.
Post Title: FN-QR
Posted by: S133P3R at 2:58 PM 5/12/2009
You don't like the KA because of the ugly valve cover, and the RB because it's illegal? You'd be in the same boat with the SR. Just sayin
And really, you do fine with the stock KA? Everyone that has one complains it's underpowered. Like I would think it would have a hard time spinning those wide wheels too. But from the vids I've seen, you do quite well actually.

Post Title:
Posted by: BrianHarte at 3:08 PM 5/12/2009
One of the main reasons for not putting a SR2o in my car is because it's illegal.
KA is underpowered, but it's enough for me to have fun and I guess enough for some people to assume I have a SR.

More power = more spinning = more destroying.
At a typical ASB I will kill a brand new pair of tires and then wear down another brand new pair about 60% let's say.
Other guys with SRs and stuff burn through like 6 or 8 pairs.

Post Title:

Both cars were VERY similar as far as mods.
Stock engine.
exhaust.
same size wheels and tires
LSD
all the suspension arms and a cage.
Very similar setups in the cars.
I drifted the 14 many many times. I drifted the 13 ONCE so far.
the 13 felt faster. it took me maybe 3 runs to get used to it, but I like it. I still need to get used to how the car reacts to everything. I knew where the 14 would go everytime. I could put it close to the barrier time after time, but this new car, I just don't know about it yet. I need practice.
I think i cooked the engine when I drifted it last time, but I'm not 100% sure.

B, there are those who will claim the S13 is flimsy. Of the available chassis configurations, the hatch is the least rigid (yes, even more so than the convertible, I've tested it repeatedly, there's no room for uninformed argument here).
However, based on what you've done, it should be about as solid as it can get, without getting crazy with a welder, boxing segments, and making the car heavier.
Are you using the Do-Luck style ladder braces? Best single investment in mine.
After that, the FSTB that ties into the firewall, the triangulated Nagisa-style home-brew fender braces, and the front control arm bracing...

Any idea of the history or condition of Powerline's very before it was restored?
I've held numerous Tech Days at my home. I've showed several people the difference in a hatch and a 'vert by jacking up one corner and attempting to open / close the doors.
Every hatch I've done this with has door misalignment upon closing... The 3 verts I've tested all had no issues.
The chassis bracing on the convertible is pretty impressive... ASC added their rendition of a floor brace, fender braces, and even a rear STB.

As I said, ASC added their rendition of a floor brace, fender braces, and even a rear STB. The door frames are reinforced, as is the firewall and the rear pan. There's even extra frame bracing underneath. No such stuff on a hatch.
And no, the vert has no such issue with door alignment when one corner is raised.

Hey AZ, wasnt scolding. It was your mistake not to check to see why your hood wasnt lined up properly and if it was closed. You know full well, if anyone else had mentioned that someone else opened their hood and didnt latch it fully, they would get flamed with the best of them.
As far as the holes in the hood are concerned...Alot of people would agree with me as well as there is alot of people that would disagree. Hence, everyone has their own opinion. Also, not sure of the analogy you have used there about if BH cared that much about holes, then he would be building a trailer queen???? You mean that if he doesnt have hood pins then he should be trailering it to shows. Thats not what the car was built for.
All I know is, is that I see a whole lot of cars with CF hoods, and stock latches, no pins, and I know of alot of cars that way with no issues. I have not however, heard of too many CF hoods popping up on them, unless it wasnt installed properly, I.E. Not properly lined up, not latched properly, etc... I havent heard of anyones hood flying up simply because they didnt have hood pins.
Also, we could go back and forth all day and night, doesnt matter. Only matters what BH decides to do, and I am confident that BH will take care of his own.

Hope you dont tap anything with that type x bumper either. They're expensive too.

Whats really really really most funny, is that this car has hood pins. Look at the upper support, there are two shiny metal pins standing up there, so I suppose, they're not much better. Soooooo funny that this has become a "better get hood pins or you hood is gonna fly up" issue, and a facepalm picture was used to show the stupidity of not using the pins and the car in the pic has pins. hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Talk about a face palm.

i dunno what it is with these JDM OEM lips but damn they are really expensive.
the JDM s14 kouki bumpers are 220 and the JDM lip is 400
and the s13 kouki stuff is even more
but it is what it is, if it breaks it can be fixed/replaced

Hell yes. The only reason drifting is cool is seeing rad video and pictures of your low drift machine with full aero afterward.

"Broken aero sucks, send it back to its place, don't think too much about it , put it together fast" Nakamura from Burst teachs us the "Burst way" of fixing aero kits.
When you think of Nakamura's drifting and his friends, you think aero kits to them is like paper towels, you use it once and throw it a way. But when you talk to them and ask them about aero kits, they all say the opposite, they fix them, sometimes fiber-glass them to achieve the longest life of the aero.
Team Burst way (Nakamura/Master aero repairer)
-Fix it quick(1 minute is your goal)
-use the trashed aero wisely.(especially the bottom lip, cause there is a lot of flat surface) cut piece of it it and use it as the back support between broken pieces. You wanna use fiber glass piece instead of sheet metal because its softer for cutting and drilling holes, hence easier repair.
-use electric drill and self tapping screw. (nakamura uses self tapping screws to hold the aero to the car, this way is way stronger than zip ties, plus if the aero hits the ground only some portion would brake off not the whole thing)
-use 5 yen as a washer. it gives a good surface area for the screw to stay on. Its probably good luck too.
-fiberglass them from the back when you have nothing to do that weekend(no drift events what so ever), don't paint it. If its together its good to go.

i did a itb setup on my ka in my s14 before i went kat. really woke the engine up. only thing though is i wasnt running cams, or a header. only cost me $200 for the entire setup, and took me about a week to do from start to finish. i never had any problems either. made a plenum, and ran off the stock maf. instead of it dying off at 5500 rpms, i could rev to the limiter and still pull if i wanted. now, only imagine what cams, header, and a nice tune would do. NASTY.

Well I got invited to drive the mock event so there weren't too many people when I drove. But I saw pics from later events and it doesn't look too bad. The track was a little rough on some spots and my aero was dragging on it which wasn't good, but I heard that they paved all the rough surfaces. Would have been nice if they did the whole track. I would be there every weekend. The other drawback for me was they make you sit in a dirt lot to wait and it drags all that on the track which creates a dirty a** car and interior. It was horrible.
sounds like a mess, but since i dont ave any courses like Sekia hills in my backyard, i guess this will do. i have my fingers crossed that the scene out there doesnt make it get closed down, i think a weekly drift course with "regulars" will really help the level of drifting out here. Post Title:
Posted by: BrianHarte at 11:19 AM 5/20/2009
First I ordered Bronze.
When my order finally went in, those size and colour I ordered were sold out (some dude on Zilvia actually got the exact ones I ordered and simply is trying to flip them in the for sale section. wonderful)
Then I had to order a new color (gunmetal). They apparently arrived. I went and paid my balance on the wheels. Brought 4 home, then got a call that the rest of mine were mysteriously "lost" somehow.
So, I was pretty pissed. (edit: AM still pissed)
However, I ordered 6 Advan TC2s instead in silver.
I heard they might arrive in mid-June.

Blitz BRW 03.
My #1 favorite wheel of all time.
They were on the 14 as spares (and looked ugly as hell and beat up.) ((got them second hand. came off some 32 GTR or osmething...))
Post Title: Re: (BrianHarte)
Posted by: urcaptnspeaking at 1:20 PM 5/21/2009
I want to keep them and get a nice set of 18s for the rear (a PERFECT set is on ebay right now). However, that's going to involve a lot of money to be thrown down. I do NOT feel like doing that right now.
IF/when I get the Advans, I will put them on the car and see if I like them. If I do, I'll sell the GTRs and Blitz wheels.
If I hate the advans, I will sell them and sell the GTRs and keep those Blitz and try and get that full set of 18s on ebay.

or maybe sell ALL my wheels and get something different.

BH,
you seem pretty much over cars and drifting in general. any specific reason? im really curious why such a true-school drift car nut like your self would want to do such a drastic thing.
scene too diluted and overplayed?
too much police attention on the streets?
or is it that no one will accept your car if you painted rainbow like your <3 wants you too?
Post Title:
Posted by: BrianHarte at 9:58 AM 5/22/2009
A lot of it is probably the fact that I have driven maybe twice in the last year.
I seem less and less inclined to push forward to make an event. Not sure why exactly.
Cars / drifting is pretty expensive. I am starting to want to spend my money in other areas. I'd like to buy a home sometime in the somewhat near future. A drift car is not a house.
We'll see what happens. I am really going to try and do a couple drift events before ASB.

Post Title:

It MIGHT look cool, but I guess it depends what your goal is.
If you want a car that sticks out and gets a lot of attention, go for that blue I mentioned.
If you want a more subtle car, get something from Lexus' current line. They have a lot of cool stuff.
Mazda has some really cool colors right now, too.
Post Title: Re: (BrianHarte)

I MIGHT keep the champaign but change the color a little bit, I MIGHT go somekind of blue... Its a tough decision. If I DO change the color I will have to paint the jams because I have OCD about that s***.

dahveed -
I havent had time to think of cool colors yet. The one you mentioned already sounds pretty cool and unique though.
s13beast - I always like the simple kind of kits. I think a basic origin Stylish kit would look great. A color??? That crazy looking green off the new Camry Hybrids. YEAH!

This seat is my pride and joy. It took me a LONG a** time to get it and a LOT of trouble. I got it a year ago or so brand new. Ordered from Japan...etc...
Took half a year to get and too many problems with importers.
I am 99% sure I am the only one in USA with this seat in red. The ONLY other Zeros i know of is my old black one that now belongs to Dousan.
I am thinking about going to a reclineable seat for my driver seat instead of this big bucket seat.
It is super clean and rare and you probably won't be able to get another one.
It comes with Bride FG rail for driver side 240sx.
Seat and Rail combo $900 please.
Very very good condition.

I will include the Bride add on Leg pad too.

the day it arrived.
Anyways, I really don't want to ship it, but if the buyer is REALLY going to plunk down for it, I'll consider it.

Not sure.

balcony is ok for KA.

HTM - pretty damn tough. I think I only did good runs like maybe 3 times ever. You really have to beat on it too...

also, put on my 18s now.
I think I want to add a little bit of camber to it and maybe lower it slightly.
My driver rear has 2 finger gap between wheel lip and fender lip.
My pass. side rear has like 3 finger or more. wtf. lame. Gotta adjust that or something.
Might bring down the front SLIGHTLY

i have no desire to put a 100% illegal engine in my car when I drive it on the street.
I will already be profiled by the police.
No need to give them a reason to bust me.
I have fun drifting with my stock engine.
My tires last for a while.
I would rather save that $5k for a real car or a house.

I want to list the whole car at $8000
Yeah, it's high, but I think the parts make the car worth it. All the parts are top notch and not everybody can come across them all the time.
The cage, the seats, the wheels, LSD, brakes, TYPE X, paintjob, etc. It's all good stuff.
In the time that we are in now, it's going to be a TOUGH thing to sell, but there might be somebody out there who wants it.

Let's say
wheels - 2000 (keep in mind it comes with 6)
coilovers - 1000
seats - 1000
all the suspension things - 750
cage - 750
That's 5500 now.
Now, I haven't even added in the GTR brakes, steering wheel, DVD player, carbon stuff, nismo LSD, ALL the exterior parts (kit, lights, paint, mirrors, etc)
and I still haven't even put anything down for the price of the car itself.

I have All Star Bash next weekend. Should be fun. I hope it sparks my interest in drifting again. It might. It might not.
I also wanted to sell the car so I could get some money together and either A. save for a house and/or B. buy a new car.
We'll see what happens though.
I MIGHT sell the cage out of it though (at the least).
I want to put back the rest of the interior and get a new dash and whatnot. I kind of just want a basic 4 point Cusco cage. ...or no cage at all.
I'll update after ASB.
by the way, picking up some new parts today. pics later.
ok?

stock kouki s14. I don't like stock 240s. They don't really do anything for me. They are old, can't carry stuff, not totally practical.
I think if I was in the market for a "best of both worlds" car, I would get a Z33. They are pretty new. good to drift. good for regular car, but, can't carry s*** in them. So, that's kind of useless.
I have actually thought about getting another S14 of s13 though.I wouldn't want it to be stock, but I wouldn't want it to be as wild as my other cars. I'm not sure what the middle ground would be though. That confuses me.
Probably REALLY basic, but I just don't know if I could do it.

Well, I've only drifted my S13 once. It was pretty fun, but I haven't had enough time in it.
At this point, I would say the 14 (mostly because I have so much time in it)
With time, I could like the 13 a lot I suppose.
The 14 was so cool though. I loved having the body kit scrape the ground everytime I turned the steering wheel.

To build up an entire S15 and them gamble with it everyday would be out of the question.

from what i understand, you can swap any engine of the same make and year OR newer as long as the engine came in other USDM cars...so no rb's, lsX's or 5.0's unforntunately =/
A ref station is not too hard to find, there is one near my house at a community college...same as the smog checks, just come in with your paper work, they check all your smog controls and you're set. C'mon BH, you know you want a new 300hp VQ with a six speed

If the rule means just that, there should be no problem with a 5.0 or an LS series engine.

This is what I am trying to prove. And why BH still has a ka in his street car. California is reckless. They know their stuff. Also there was a cop waiting in the parking lot of my work waiting for me to leave so he can get me. He eventually left after 45 minutes of waiting. I flipped him off as he was leaving.
That's stupid. Cops shouldn't get paid for sitting around trying to give us vehicle tickets.

. i think i just have too much slop in everything lol.I should have aired them up a lot more I think. I only ran 40psi. Oh well, F it.
This was my first time drifting STREETS of Willow, so it was all a learning experience.
First time on the track.
First time on 18s.
Second time in the car.
A lot of the corners were super high RPM 2nd gear (for me) most of the way. I just keep the throttle planted to the ground and adjust if necessary.
I usually clutch kick into the turns at an already high RPM. haha.
Sometimes I would e brake into them, but that was very situational. I DID e brake into this long downhill turn a bunch of times on Sunday and then popped my tire finally.
Other corners would be 3rd gear clutch kick and 100% throttle it until I needed to jam back to 2nd.
Also, I did some crazy 3rd gear drifts through this very subtle switchbacks on the track. It was pretty scary.

I took the pic before I put the top part of the backseat in.

Also, do you have a spare drift "button" for an e-brake? I need one for an event coming up but waited too long, so by the time it gets here, it's too late. lol

Then wiring went from there to the meters in the dash and then tied into the radio harness i think.
do not have extra drift knob.

Yashio Factory hose adapter. cut the hose. put it in. hose clamp both sides.
Screw in the temp sensor. (please use thread tape too)
Run the wires through the firewall hole I mentioned earlier.
Hook one wire to a ground (used the shifter plate hole.
Hook one wire to ACC or Constant or whatever. don't really know. Tapped that into the radio wire. done and done.

Metal Angel - Get the GT Spec braces. They are fantastic. On my old S14 I had tower bars as one of the only mods and I could tell the difference on the streets. I would do mild turns and s*** with the bars on and off. Trust me, They work.
I even experimented with them at the track. Took the front tower bar on and off. Didnt like it with no bar. Put the bar back on. loved it again.

Generic tower bars will work. sure.
I never wanted them. I like name brand things (in every aspect of life).
So for a long time, I would always run CUSCO bars. They are great quality and super stiff.
Then, recently with this new car, I found these GT Spec bars and was 100% blown away. They are MUCH better than Cusco and I won't turn back.
I 100% suggest the GT Spec parts.
It isn't a bad thing that they have a REALLY cool paint scheme on them too! lol

.You can be a real tool to people sometimes, not all the time of course; I see you make some real quality posts and it's good. I mess with you in a harmless way. I'm not trying to pick on you, I just thought you could have a good laugh at your own expense. You apparently are very thin-skinned though and that's rather typical of a bully which is what your less than stellar moments look like, picking on people. You seem to take yourself WAY too seriously and that will set you up for the sort of emotional whiney vaginal tantrum you are exhibiting at the moment.
I guess it's my fault for not expecting a guy who makes stickers about himself, to sell to others, might be suffering from bouts of overcompensation for a fragile ego.
I'll make you a deal. See my jab for what it was intended as, a funny non-malicious friendly one and chill. In return I won't mess with you anymore.

I'd just like to drift it more, but I'm in a bad financial spot right now.
Looking to get into a new job and leave my current one behind. I just don't have any money for the car right now.
I WOULD like to get some Tanabe stabilizer bars I think. I'd also like to get a new exhaust.
I loved the Blitz wheels. I would love a full set.

Hey Brian, what do you suggest radiator wise. Something around $200. I just bent mine in a wreck. Koyo is a bit pricey for me. I was thinking powered by max.
PBM is 200 while Mishimoto's 300. Though PBM is great, I would go with the more established brand. Plus Mishimoto has a lifetime guarantee on their rads.

Yo, quick question Brian. I know some of us have been asking you if you were gonna do an engine swap and ya said no cause it's illegal and won't pass inspection. I think I'm gonna be in the same sort of situation if I move up to VA, so my ? is can I avoid VA inspections if I just leave my car in my mom's name here in SC? I'm really diggin the thought of a sr swap. I have a feelin this is a stupid ?. |
I really have NO idea. I think you MIGHT be ok, but might not. I wish I knew more about it.

bummer.
I would probably never buy a KOYO. I've seen/hear of a few cracked ones for no apparent reason.
Parts Shop Max - I had one actually, (for my SR swap that didnt happen), Seemed ok. Nothing special.
Right now I have a Spearco one. I have no idea if those are expensive or not, but it works fine. I got it from my friend who used it on his RB25 S13.
Mishimoto - I would not ever have one unless it was offered to me for free.

it depends where your moving to, i think if you go to the dc area and some places in nova you MIGHT be hassled but i doubt that.
youd probbaly have a bigger chance of being ticketed for being too low or window tint...va cops arent too well informed on swaps and the like.
i agree AZ, i think they sub theyre radiators out and were bought out a few years ago or something like that, they suck now.
sorry for speakin on your thread bh, appologies
