Post Title: Door unlock programming
Posted by: rubbersidedown at 9:48 AM 6/26/2008

The doors can be programed to unlock when the motor is turned off, but the manual says it is possible to modify the programming so that the doors unlock when the car is put in park. I called my service dept and the guy who knows it out on vacation. So, anybody know how to do that?

RTFM

For those of you not familiar with the helpful acronym used by tazdevl, it means "read the f**king manual". Tazdevl, lets do that now. Page 3-6 says," An INFINITI dealer can customize this function to unlock the doors when the selector lever is moved to the P (Park) position form the other positions. Contact an INFINITI dealer for details."

So, your answer really doesn't do much to move the inquiry along. Perhaps, had you read the manual before responding, you would have understood my question.

I would like to know how to do this as well.

It seems like a lot of things in this manual say "go to the dealer". I'd really not have to make a trip to the dealer to unlock functionality in my car that I paid for.

Update: went to the dealer today and asked for them to explain how to do this. The change was made, but there is no way to do it withou the Infiniti computer plugging into the car's module. No explanation why it takes a dealer.

HI, as of now when i shut the car off the locks open. i wanted the locks to open when the car goes into park and the dealer said they couldnt do that.
so did your dealer make it so the locks open when the car goes into park? if thats the case i will have it adjusted by the dealer again. thanks nick

Yes. The dealer used its computer to plug into my car and made the adjustment. The tech specifically trained for the EX was on vacation, so the tech who made the change had to search a bit, but was able to find the option and make the change. Good luck!

I'm resurrecting an old thread because I've now decided I want this done to my car too.

[Hey SteveTheTech ... perhaps you can shed some light on this. ]

So, anyone know of any way for an owner to do this themself or is a plug-in to Consult required?

TIA,
David

Hey there guys.

There are three different choices you have when it comes to the Auto locking function on the door locks.

1-Locks at ~15mph and unlocks when the Ignition button is turned off.

2- Locks when the gear shift is changed from Park. Unlocks in Park with key on.(My personal choice)

3- Off, no auto lock operation.

The Consult III and a trained tech are required to make the memory change in the BCM. It is just part of the software and is not changeable any other way.

There are a few other things that EX owners can set, the puddle lights are really easy to initialize and turning the Auto locking feature off is also pretty easy.

The OP is right in this case and that is exactly what it says to do, .

That is the information they should give you

I'm writing to confirm what you say is true. My dealer told me so and I had him change the setting to lock when out of park and unlock in park with motor running. Took a bit of arm twisting to get them to think how to do it but in the end well worth the effort.

Was done for me the other day by the dealer, at no charge. Works great!

My dealer tried to charge me for this service. I requested the programming to be set where the car will unlock when I put the shifter into park. Does anyone know if it is legit for them to charge me to have this function turned on?

That kind of sucks that they would charge you for that. I can understand if you are going in there for only that, but if you are already in for something like and oil change they should do it as a kind gesture. It's little things like this that hurts a dealers satisfaction rating. Changing this function only takes about 5 minutes, if the tech knows what they are doing.

What were they trying to charge you for this simple setting change? Not trying to be too noisy just curious.

The labor charge to hook up the ECU with the programing unit that they have. Price was 109 and some change. I regret getting an Infiniti. Love the car but the service I get from the service department is really bad.

This is Lexus of Glendale Yahoo ratings:

One more Lexus close to my house:

And here is Infiniti:

If the service doesn't match the price that we're paying for our cars, its not worth paying this much. They might as well label the Infiniti cars as Nissan cars and reduce the price. The reason why I pay more for these cars such as Infiniti, Lexus, Acura, and BMW is the class. I am just venting guys. I am very very disappointed in the service. I am seriously thinking about ditching this car and going back to Lexus.

I will entertain doing this idea, next time I go to the Dealer.

Thanks for the Heads-up !

Wow that's a shame that you have had such a bad experience that it has soured you on the product. There really not bad cars and many service departments that treat customers in such a manner are destine to either end up in different management once their numbers start slipping.

Charging 1hr to make a 5 minute adjustment is excessive although I do not set the rules. I know there are allowed to set their own rates for customer requested services like this. You are fortunate though given your geographical location finding a more reputable dealer is not too difficult. There are some top rated dealers in your area, they make require some more time to get too but it should be worth the venture.

Good Luck and don't throw the towel in just yet.
