Post Title: Leaky Sunroof ! Posted by:rontek at 9:28 AM 6/3/2008 I purchased a new EX35 with everything but Technology package. Two days after taking delivery I decided to take it to a Touch less car wash. When the jets went over the roof, water started to come in the car. Not a lot, but noticeable. I took it back to the dealer and they replaced the roof. Tried it again, and same thing happened. I returned it again and they gave me a loaner EX. Tried that one in the same car wash, and same issue. Tried a different touch less wash, and same thing. I just got a call from Infiniti consumer services and they are telling me the car is performing to "Specifications", and that it should not be washed in a high pressure touch less car wash. That is "CRAP ! I have had many other vehicles with sunroofs, and NEVER has any leaked in ANY car wash. There is obviously something wrong with the design , and I can not believe Infiniti would give me this type of answer. I otherwise LOVE the vehicle, but to me this is a major issue. Have any other EX owners out there experienced the same problem? Could someone give it a try and let me know your results?
Thanks,
Ron

My car is usually handwashed by the hubbie and don't tell him, but I took it through both types of car wash. No leak in my roof.
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (1stEXinCT) Posted by:rontek at 12:14 PM 6/3/2008 Thanks for your experience. I am actually surprised as both my EX and the loaner they gave me both did the same thing. As I said the water was not "pouring" in, but the pressure pushed the glass down slightly, enough to let drips and light spray in.
Post Title: Posted by:exawe at 1:32 PM 6/4/2008 I experienced the same when I wnet thorugh a touchless I pressured car was. I then took it to the one that had brush rollers had no problem with that. I need to let the dealership know.
Post Title: Re: (exawe) Posted by:rontek at 3:20 PM 6/4/2008 Yes, Please do. If more of us make Infiniti aware of the problem, they will have to do something about it. If you would not mind, please PM me with the mname and State of the Dealership where you purchased your EX. I would like to keep track of them if possible.

I have not gone through the car wash as of yet so have not run into this issue.
I am also in the Toronto area, so wondering which dealer you will be returning to for your service.
If you don't mind, it would also be great if you would share with us the quality/service you receive when you make your complaint, and how quick they are to fix the issue. This is my first Infiniti, so I am still trying to decide which dealer has the best service Thx
Post Title: Re: (allthatjazz) Posted by:EX-lover at 7:53 AM 6/5/2008
I bought from Markham Infiniti, and would definitely go back there for services. The service manager there is very good and reasonable, his name is Bill. I found a dent in my bumper 24 hours after I picked up and signed off my car. My wife and I know we didn't hit anything in that 24 hours, so we took it back to the dealer. He replaced the bumper for us at no charge. My friend bought a BMW and found a dent on the hood during the pickup inspection, but the sales told her it was the shadow from the lighting. When she took her car back for oil change, the mechanic told her she damaged it from car wash, and wouldn't fix it. She ended up writing a complaint to BMW, they finally agree to pay 50% of the bill. Markham Infiniti
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (rontek) Posted by:pmas at 8:37 AM 6/17/2008 I discovered mine leaking the first time I drove it in the rain, this past Saturday. It was quite a severe thunderstorm, much more rain than usual. I have washed the vehicle several times and even been to the car wash once. I never noticed a leak until this storm. I have the vehicle less than 3 weeks. I brought it to Infiniti and they just called to tell me they are replacing the sunroof glass, which comes with the seal as a unit. I will post the results after the next big downpour!
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (rontek) Posted by:rn79870 at 9:26 AM 6/17/2008 Sorry I don't have an EX to compare it to, but my G35 doesn't leak in the car washes. I can't believe that they tell you that it's normal. Take it through a normal car wash, (mine goes all the time without problem), and if your car leaks, get the camera out and start documenting.
I'd never take "it wasn't designed for that" from a manufacturer when I'm using a readily available commercial product in the expected manner. It isn't like you're abusing the vehicle. From my time on this forum, I've seen other issues that people have had with Nissan/Infiniti and the "It wasn't designed for that" or "It isn't really a malfunction, it is normal" line is typically the way they start. When pressed long enough, with proper documentation, they typically capitulate.
I hope you get the satisfaction you deserve on this.

Can you please tell me your location and the name of the dealership if possible? I too had my sunroof replaced but it did not fix the problem. I am trying to document all the cases of this issue for Infiniti Consumer Services. Make SURE that after your roof is replaced you test it in a High Pressure Car wash. If there are any "Typhoon" washes in your area, I would use it as a valid test.
Thanks,
Ron

Ron I just sent you an email.
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (pmas) Posted by:pmas at 2:26 PM 6/19/2008 OK.. you are going to love this! I go the car back last night. They replaced the sunroof. It rained a few hours later and guess what? Soaked! The headliner, the sliding cover for the sunroof too. I went right back to the dealer and they saw it themselves. When sprayed with a hose, it literally "sprays" in. They said this is the way it's designed. In other words, I am simply out of luck. I called Infiniti and now have an incident number. A rep is supposed to call me to figure out what can be done. I just find it hard to believe that getting rained on inside your vehicle is considered normal. Stay Tuned!
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (pmas) Posted by:rontek at 3:50 PM 6/19/2008 Paul and I are both dealing with Infiniti consumer services, as the dealerships are unable to do anything about the problem. This will make FOUR vehicles that I know about with leaking sunfroofs. When it starts to get cold and any water that may be let in freezes, it is going to cause all kinds of issues. The "drains in the roof" excuse just does not cut it with me. When the glass is closed NO water should get in any time. Other than this issue, I love the vehicle. I am just VERY dissapointed with the response so far from Infiniti responding to the problem. As I said before, if you have not had the opportunity to thoroughly test your sunroof for leaks, I would do so. if you do not have any issues, GREAT ! But if you do, you will want to let Infiniti know so they can begin to look into, and do whatever is necessary to correct the problems on vehicles like ours.
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (rontek) Posted by:rontek at 8:46 AM 6/24/2008 Well this will probably be my last post about my leaky sunroof. Infiniti consumer services has basically washed their hands of the issue. Their position is that the car is performing to specifications, and that water leaking in the sunroof in a car wash is OK. The issue Paul is having , according to Infiniti, is not related because his leak is more severe, and happens when it is raining as well. A leak is a leak. There is obviously something wrong with the design of the roof, or a manufacturing problem in at least some of the EX35's, as I have not found another vehicle, Nissan or not, that leaks in the same manner as mine. I even contacted the manufacturer of the car wash equipment, and they have never had any other complaints like this. They also believe something is not right with the roof. I have to say I am more dissapointed with the level and manner of support provided by Infiniti Consumer Services, than I am with the leaky roof itself. Although it is unacceptable, I can live with not using a high presssure car wash. I guess I expected Infiniti to provide the same level of service that I received with my BMW purchase, but I was mistaken. I hope all of you other EX35 owners out there do not have the same problems Paul and I are having, and if you do, make sure you let Infiniti know that you are aware there are others out here that also are experiencing the leaks.
Good Luck !
Ron
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (rontek) Posted by:pmas at 9:40 AM 6/24/2008
Currently, I decided to wait to bring the vehicle back for the dissecting. The reason for the delay is simple: When they replaced the sunroof, they scratched the wood grain on the console and also gouged the shifter knob. So I am waiting for the parts to arrive so I can make one appointment for all. Then supposedly, they are going to have an engineer on the line while the tech works on the vehicle. Honestly, I have absolutely no confidence in Infiniti at this point. Based on Ron's outcome, I feel we are all out of luck. What a shame! By the way, it just started to rain. I think I'll go into my nice new EX to take a shower.lol
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (pmas) Posted by:sublime1017 at 10:53 AM 6/26/2008 I have been watching this thread so I decided to test my car. When the high pressure wash sprays the top of the car, I did experience slight water leakage. Basically, the water comes in where the metal meets the glass. I guess I will have to bring it to the dealer and go through a wash and show them. I would say it certainly a defect with the design. I really don't want to go through the hassle of replacing roof/sunroof but I agree that Infiniti needs to be aware of this problem. If my sunroof or anything else exposed to water craps out on me, I want to make sure I don't pay a penny. However, it doesn't appear there is much recourse pertaining to this issue. Just wanted to mention this as this appears to be an issue most of us will deal with in owning the EX35.
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (rontek) Posted by:exfactor at 11:16 AM 6/26/2008 Why not a law suite claiming Infiniti selling defective products ?
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (sublime1017) Posted by:rontek at 12:10 PM 6/26/2008 Thank You for your contribution. I can understand your reluctance to having your roof replaced on your brand new EX35. (Mine was 2 DAYS old when they replaced it!). And I think as long as you make the dealer and Infiniti aware of your issue, and let them know you too are aware of several other owners experiencing the same, it will add to our goal of having Infiniti "Seriously" address the problem. Whether its the design, or a faulty part, or whatever. That is why I am trying to encourage other EX35 owners to at least give your roof a thorough testing. Even a small leak, is still a LEAK !
Ron
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (exfactor) Posted by:rontek at 12:14 PM 6/26/2008
Each state has their own "Lemon Laws". I have made inquiries with an attorney, and if I did not like the car so much, (Other than the leak), I would seriously be going down that road. At this point I just want Infiniti to "Seriously" look at the problem, and FIX IT ! I dont want money. I dont want to give my EX back. I just want my roof not to leak under any "reasonable" circumstances.

Thanks for the quick reply. You are so right b/c I love my car. I am going to be out of town quite a bit for the next 30 days or so but I will post again on any developments when I have time to take it in to the dealer. I haven't noticed it all during rain but maybe I wasn't checking hard enough at the time. In any case, it's a slight leak but I don't feel I should have to put up with it since I spent 40K on my "dream" car.
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (rontek) Posted by:inteller at 9:56 AM 6/27/2008 if I had water filter down and shower inside my EX, I'd be gunning for a new one. no telling what long term effects it will have on the electronics and leather...and carpet mold.
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (inteller) Posted by:sluday at 8:52 PM 6/27/2008 We just had a major storm in New Jersey with torrential rain and strong winds.(30-60 mph winds) Went to check my 1 day old EX for leaks and everything was dry as a bone. I guess i got lucky and got a tight sunroof from the factory. I will only hand wash my EX. It seems that the high pressure automatic car washes could be the source of the problem.
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (sluday) Posted by:rontek at 11:51 PM 6/27/2008 Im glad you appear to be OK. It does get tough washing by hand in the winter though. Also the point is , it should not leak EVEN in a high pressure automatic car wash. Good luck with your new EX.

Already brought in the ex35 into the dealer. They were told not to touch the car by Infinifti since there was no fix at this time. My car leaked during a very heavy down pour. Also, put in a call to infiniti's consumer affairs which the dealer recommended to record this issue. Awaiting to see what happens next. So far no leaks during a normal rain. I haven't been to a car wash as of yet so I cannot report on this yet. Our car is less than 2 weeks old as of 6/28. I will try to keep you updated once I hear back from Infiniti or the dealer.
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (lsyankees) Posted by:rontek at 8:21 PM 6/29/2008 Well, It looks like Infiniti is Cover Your A#@ Mode now. This response just proves they know they have a problem, but whether they will do anything now or ever , will remain to be seen. From the response I have received to date, I would not hold your breath. The best you can do is to let them know it is not acceptable for a brand new $40,000 vehicle. The model has been out just about six months. I have had mine for a little over one, and since I posted my leak issue I have already found at least SIX other owners with the same or similar problems. Please keep me posted with the response from Infiniti Consumer Services. I am trying to keep track of all the owners that are having the same problem.
Thanks,
Ron

Hi all, this is my first post. I took delivery of my ex35 in February. My sunroof does have leakage every time to auto car wash. Also a few weeks ago in Toronto there was a heavy thunderstorm and there's water leakage as well. I'll bring this to the attention of my dealer next time I take my ex35 for maintenance.
Post Title: NEW Update ! Posted by:rontek at 10:25 AM 7/1/2008
Well, thanks to a concerned and caring sales person, I was able to speak to my dealerships Infiniti Corporate Service Representative. I explained my frustration with Infiniti Consumer Services, and the fact that I have found "several" other EX35 owners experiencing the same or similar issues. I told him I was not looking for anything from Infiniti, not a buy back, not financial compensation. I just wanted my brand new EX35 that I really like a lot, not to leak under any reasonable circumstances. He still was not convinced there was an issue. He did agree to investigate my claim of other owners issues, by looking into the Infiniti dealership service records for EX35 owners that had reported sunroof leaks. I would also like to keep track of owners that have had roof leaks so I can "compare" what I have found with what his investigation comes back with. If you are an EX35 owner and have reported a sunroof leak to your dealership, or are planning to, PLEASE send me an e-mail or post in the forum, the name and state of the dealership where you reported the leak, and the date you first reported it. If you want to send me details of the number of repair attempts and any other responses from Infiniti, I would appreciate it. I am only trying to gather information to support a satisfactory response and fix for the problem. I do not need or want any personal information. You can send your info to ron_tek@verizon.net or post it in the forum. If anyone else wants a copy of the list I create, they are welcome to it.
Ron
Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (rontek) Posted by:sluday at 10:56 PM 7/1/2008
I was wondering if this was a early production issue. Mine was built in March and I have no leaks. I did not run the car thru an auto car wash (i do not plan to) but I had two major storms with heavy rain and wind last week and not a drop of water. What part of the sunroof does the water come in? I would like to check my car after rain storms.
Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (sluday) Posted by:rontek at 3:35 AM 7/2/2008 My EX was March 08 production as well. With my roof, the water comes in from the back. So if you were to be sitting in the drivers seat, and put your hand behind you, up inside the roof, you would feel water come in where the glass meets metal. There is a piece of foam rubber up there along the edge of the glass you can also feel. This becomes soaked as well. Others have experienced much more severe leaks. As far as the car wash goes, it is not an "Auto Wash", but a touch less high pressure bay. No brushes, just water.
Good Luck !
Ron

I live in AZ so little to report in the way of rain related leaks (but the monsoons are here... so we'll know soon enough) It's been through the local "shammy strip" car wash several times with no discernable leaks. We purchased our EX in late Feb. - fresh off a truck... so Jan or Feb production would be my guess. I'll advise one the rains begin.
Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (M45Caliber) Posted by:rontek at 5:16 PM 7/5/2008 Great ! Thanks for the update ! Please keep me informed if there is any change in status. Not that I am wishing bad luck on anyone, I just want to keep track of any other issues.
Thanks Again,
Ron

This is absolute CRAP.
I've handwashed my Wife's EX35 since we picked it up... and we have not seen any signs of leakage, yet.
The thought that it CAN leak, is disturbing.
Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (EXceptional) Posted by:rontek at 6:36 PM 7/6/2008
My point EXACTLY ! Maybe you will not have any trouble, but keep an eye on it.

Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (rontek) Posted by:sluday at 12:30 AM 7/7/2008
I was wondering if the leaky roof has something to do with the roof rail installation. maybe the rails are bolted on too tight and has lifted or warped the roof to create a gap in the moonroof? Does you car have roof rails?
Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (sluday) Posted by:rontek at 3:42 AM 7/7/2008 Actually mine does NOT have rails or a rack at all. I ordered specifically without them. I am not sure about the others having issues, but thanks for the idea!
Thanks,
Ron

Hi folks,
So this is my first post but am very interested in this topic as I just purchased my EX on June 16th, 2008 and about 5 days ago I experienced the leaky sunroof a few of you are talking about. Another name for the list I guess...
Mine doesn't leak badly, and only when it rains hard; haven't tried an automated carwash yet though. Exactly as Ron commented it leaks at the back of the roof.
I've scheduled a time with the dealer to look at it and then figure out what to do. I'll keep you all posted.
As a note, my sales rep did mention they had a service bulletin out for "sedan" sunroof leaks (I believe he said last year) but nothing on the EX as far as he knew.
Not very happy about the roof problem but love the car otherwise.

Hi Colin,
Thanks for the information. Please keep us posted with the response from your dealership. I have added your info to my list, if you need a copy, just shho me an e-mail, and I can send it off to you. That goes for anyone else too !
Good Luck !

When you open the drivers door, there is a label on the lower right of the frame. It has the production date in the upper left of the label. Month and Year.
Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (rontek) Posted by:dividedhighw at 6:31 AM 7/8/2008 Thanks! (Mine is Jan 2008)
Love your avatar, BTW!
My sunroof hasn't leaked during heavy rains, but I haven't taken it through any sort of automated wash as yet. If/when I do, I'll keep you posted.
I feel for you because I've found the people staffing the Infiniti toll-free number in Canada, absolutely NO help at all (I'm actually about to write a letter detailing the abysmal service and even worse attitude). I dread having to jump into this myself, but if/when it comes, I'll be all in ... in the meantime, hold fast.
Cheers, David

I just hand washed my EX today and I soaked the moon roof with water on purpose and I still had no leaks. I was looking at the roof and it seems to be a little lower than the roof line and a little water pools up there. Do you think your problem could be that the roof is not fully shut? It may be just a couple milameters off. In older cars there used to be a manual crank that you could use near the motor that would open and close the roof if the motor went bad. Maybe you just need a half of crank to tighten the roof when closed.
Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (sluday) Posted by:EXceptional at 1:21 PM 7/11/2008 Mmmmmm...
As mentioned before, I haven't had any leaks either... and I only hand wash as well !
We've had a lot of Rain here in the past while... and no leaks either when we're cruising around !
Maybe it has something to do with the color "White" ? Lucky us !
Nice Avatar, sluday... I mentioned to the Admins a few weeks ago, that I'd like to see some Infiniti EX35 Avatars... and lo and behold a White one appears.

Hi All,
So, I had my car in for service of the leaky sunroof (and humming at startup) yesterday.
Good news is that the dealer didn't blow me off or say it was normal. They had the car for the day and the Service Manager called to say it was ready and explained at what they had done to the sunroof. He said that they adjusted the sunroof to the correct position and fixed a "piece of metal" that was bowed in the wrong direction at the back of the roof. Apparently the metal guides the water to drains in the roof and it was bent in the wrong direction so the water wasn't draining properly. He said that the roofs aren't air tight and so water is actually meant to get by the seal but the drains are meant to keep the water out of the car.
The service invoice description of repair says:
INSPECT, FOUND REAR OF SUNROOF SITTING LOW. ADJ. SUNROOF UP TO CORRECT POSITION. CLEAN AND LUBE SUNROOF SEAL. ADJ. REAR WATER TROUGH TO CORRECT BOWED DOWN. CORRECTED POSITION ALLOWS WATER TO FLOW TO SIDE DRAINS. DUMPED WATER ON ROOF TO VERIFY LEAK CORRECTED. CUST TO MONITOR.
I can say that I noticed a height gap difference between the rear of the sunroof and the actual roof of about 1/4" (give or take) when I took the car in. After I picked it up the rear of the sunroof is almost perfectly in line with the actual roof now. Not sure if they would have noticed the gap if I hadn't mentioned it when I dropped the car off. Funny part is that I looked at the sunroofs of 3 or 4 new EXs on the lot and they all seem to have that gap.
It's rained here this afternoon so hopefully I'll have good news to share when I leave the office and can check for leakage.
I have no idea whether the drain explanation is true or not but I suppose it seems to make sense.
As a note, the build date on my EX is Nov 2007.
Hope that helps someone and I'll provide an update after I've had a chance to get it wet!!!
Cheers,
Colin Ottawa, ON

Great write-up Colin!! From your description, I'm guessing you had this done at Tony Graham Infiniti?
BTW, my sunroof hasn't leaked but I just checked it and at the rear, it is lower than the roof itself by about 1/8". Do you think I should get this adjusted?
TIA, David

Anyway they suggest to replace the sunroof.
Don't like this...

Yes, it was serviced at Tony Graham in Bells Corners. Overall I'm fairly happy with the dealer, at least so far.
Not sure whether it's worth getting your roof adjusted or not. From what I read here it seems that other dealers seems to be replacing the roofs when they leak rather than making adjustments.
The adjustment on mine (as far as height goes) was immediately noticeable when I picked up the car but, like I said, mine was closer to 1/4". I can't imagine that it would hurt to have it adjusted but, as they say, if it ain't broke...
A general, small update on my end; it rained yesterday afternoon and I'm happy to report no actual water on the seats / armrest. The sponge strip at the back of the roof (on the inside) seemed damp but maybe that's what it's for??? Definitely no water anywhere in the car though. Hard to say if it's "fixed" because it didn't rain very hard. I'm tempted to try a car-wash but that seems to be where things go badly... Considering I don't even have 1000km on the car yet I'm still attached to the pristine interior.
Anyhow, that's the latest. More updates as they unfold.
Colin

Hi folks,
Well, after some fairly decent heavy rains here in Ottawa I feel like there's been enough water over my roof to comment on the situation.
Good news - it appears that the leaking has effectively stopped. Two VERY heavy rains have now come and gone and not water in the vehicle. One of the storms lasted a good 2.5 hours and dry afterwards.
I do *feel* like there's a little dampness on the sponge strip near the back of the roof but I honestly can't tell if it's the material that it is made of just feels that way or it's wet. I know that sounds crazy but check the strip when you get a second and see if it feels that way to you...
So, overall I'm feeling good about the dealers adjustment. Almost tempted to try a carwash to see what happens...
Anyone else having success or continued problems??? Haven't seen any other updates so I'm curious as to what's happening with everyone. Or does it only rain here...
Colin

Hi Colin . I am glad the "adjustments" appear to have resolved your problem. I never experienced leaks in the rain, ONLY in the car wash, but it still was not acceptable to me. As for the foam rubber strip, mine too appeared to be wet, only when the leaking occurred. Never in the rain or otherwise. That too was one of my concerns, that eventially it would deteriorate after continually becoming "wet" and "dry" . I am not sure exactly what the purpose of that strip is as it does not appear to cushion anything when the glass is shut. Maybe thats a good question for the service dept to answer. Thank you for your continued updates. It is greatly appreciated.

I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and take my car through a car wash, aren't I?

Ok, we had a heavy rain today and I can say that my sunroof does leak! So as far as my vehicle is concerned, this isn't just a high pressure wash problem. I am so pissed. The water was in the front area where the glass meets the foam and in the same place in the rear section of the sunroof. I have subsequently booked an appointment for next Wed with my dealer. I will be bringing Collin's feedback with me in hopes this addresses the issue. Will keep everyone posted when I get my car back. The only good news, I guess, is that the water didn't get inside the car when I have the sunroof visor (or whatever you call it) covering the glass. For now, I have to keep a towel in my car to absorb the water, but obviously, who wants to have to run outside to their car after a heavy rain to deal with this issue!!!

Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (sublime1017) Posted by:rontek at 4:01 AM 7/24/2008 Very sorry to hear your experience. Please let me know if you need any of the data I have collected so far. Infiniti HAS to begin acknowledging they have an issue here and not a series of unrelated isolated incidents.
Good Luck !

Hi folks,
Really sorry to hear about that sublime. I know I was pretty upset when it happened to me as well. Especially on a car that had less than 500 Kms on it... (I know, us Canadians and our metric!)
For what it's worth, after yet another HUGE rain yesterday (and it was pouring down like a low-powered pressure washer) my car was water free!!!
I'm inclined to think that my dealer actually did manage to fix the problem (at least in my case) with a simple adjustment.
Does your roof have the slight gap at the back between the glass and the roof too?
Hope they get it resolved for you ASAP!

Glad to hear your issue seems to be resolved Collin! I hope I have a similar result! Yes, there is a slight gap between the glass and the roof.
Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (sublime1017) Posted by:EXceptional at 9:42 AM 8/2/2008 This is a very important issue... it affects a lot of people.
I joined this site CLICK HERE a while ago... and I think tracking how many people with this issue would be a good idea.

Hello all,
Well I hope after reading all of your posts that you have gotten something resolved since the last posting 08/08. I too am very frustrated. I purchased a 2008 G35XS beautiful car, absolutely love it with all the bells and whistles but....I ran my brand car through the local powerwash here in Morgantown, PA and had a water leak on the passenger side of the vehicle. The dealer had their water specialist come out and do a look over and got the car back...even worse. The car went back to the dealer and they say they didn't see the issue. I told them to take it to our carwash before giving it back to me again. After they damaged my bumper, long story, separate issue, I am awaiting their verdict tomorrow. My hope is that they see the leak and fix it. However, if I get the same response as some of you received...well? What is our recourse??? I'd love to know how you all are making out as I won't give up on this one either. Dealer in West Chester, PA Infiniti Of West Chester. Hopefully works out..please repost people. Thanks.

My dealer adjusted my sunroof and fixed the leak. Mine was leaking even in a good rain though. I still get a little leak at the car wash when the jet is focused on the roof from behind, but nothing that I'm worried about. Hope you get the issue worked out with your dealer.
Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (joeydbme) Posted by:rontek at 4:21 AM 9/8/2008 Well, if you are expecting Infiniti to acknowledge that there may be a "problem" with their sunroofs, forget it. From what I have found, most of the dealerships have done their best to fix the leaks, or at least make the problem better. But Infiniti Consumer Services (Nissan/Infiniti USA) will have nothing to do with it, and basically told me that I could hire an attorney if I chose. Even the dealers Infiniti representative, after speaking to me in person and "appearing" concerned, never followed up on any of the commitments, or promises he made to me. In fact I never heard from him again, even after having my salesman "remind" him of the subject. I still believe that with so many complaints, (I have around 15 documented at this point), they should take a more concerned standpoint on the subject. Considering the people I have found have been exclusively from this and a couple of other forums alone. There are probably MANY other owners out there that do not visit these forums at all, and we will never know about the total extent of the cases. The bottom line is that although Infiniti represents itself as a luxury brand, they are not in the league of REAL luxury vehicles like BMW, Audi and Mercedes. I am not saying they do not make a good vehicle, just that its not what it is presented to be. I also believe that a lot of the exceptional ratings in customer service they receive are because their dealerships and services departments "Guilt" customers into giving 100% excellent responses on the surveys that are presented. After every sale and service visit, they tell customers that they will be monitarily penalized if they do not receive completly "perfect" scores. This totally nullifies the results. I do not want to take money out of anybodys pockets, and I think the fact that Nissan/Infiniti does so, is terrible. I am sure the reasons for the surveys, are that at a corporate level, the claims they can make from these high scores allow them to advertise this info, and thus the perception of extreme owner satisfaction will increase sales. I "like" my EX35, but I can not say I "love" it. I have not had any other major issues, and it performs well over all, but I am not impressed with Infiniti (Nissan), as a company, and I dont know if I would buy another one. Not so much for the vehicle itself, but for my personal experience with the company.

Based on my own personal experience I am very happy with both the Infiniti dealer and the vehicle. I haven't had to call their customer service number but my own experience of customer service for any company I have dealt with in Canada with the exception of my bank is pretty pathetic (Telus, Rogers, Shaw, etc etc ... they're all as bad as each other & I am amazed half of them manage to stay in business they are so bad ... I don't expect a car company call centre to be any different). I have actually owned 2 Audis, 2 VW's, one Merc, and one BMW (as well as one GM, one Toyota, and 2 Porsches). In terms of dealerships, the worse of the bunch was a close tie between Audi & VW (same parent company I know but they were seperate dealers in UK). They were shockingly bad ... enough to disuade me from buying another VW or Audi (while I was in UK any way). The most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned was the Merc ... ended up back in the garage 6 times in the 1st year. The final straw was finding a rag stuffed in the air intake which pretty much explained the over-heating The BMW was the best for reliability & customer service ... given my 2nd Porsche's engine blew up on the highway I can hardly say it was the most reliable ... the 2nd engine was just fine though & Porsche customer service were a pleasure to deal with ;-) So far with my EX35 I don't have any of the issues anyone else has described (I've been through some pretty heavy rain as well as a few power washes) ... fingers crossed it stays that way. About to take it in for my 1st service so that should be straight forward enough (hope I didn't curse my luck by saying that).
Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (bonzai_can) Posted by:bonzai_can at 8:42 AM 9/8/2008 Ok so I just called and booked in for a service on Thu morning which will be done while I wait ... that was surprisingly painless and actually quite pleasant in a strange "I have low expectations of customer service" sort of a way ;-)
Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (bonzai_can) Posted by:dividedhighw at 3:30 PM 9/8/2008 Hey bonzai_can ... can you tell me if when fully closed, the rear of your glass panel is level with the roof or whether it's lower; and if lower, by how much?
I ask because mine is about 1/8" lower and after a torrential storm today, there were a couple of drops inside, hanging from the sunroof seal near the back.
TIA, David

A few months back, I drove through a really heavy downpour of rain and did not have any water/rain leaking through the sunroof.
I thought I would be safe from the leaky sunroof issue.
I took my EX through a car wash today for the first time and got sprayed by a lot of water during the rinse cycle. Will add this to the to do list the next time I bring my car in for service.
Post Title: Re: NEW Update ! (dividedhighw) Posted by:dividedhighw at 6:11 PM 12/3/2008
A quick update - I had mine adjusted so that it's pretty much level now. Since then, I've not noticed any leaks ... which doesn't prove it's fixed, I realize, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Cheers, David

I have experienced a Leak Roof but i just cannot make sure if it was my Maxima or EX, i am going to post again after giving my EX a Shower.
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (gloa2000) Posted by:gloa2000 at 6:44 PM 12/5/2008 i took Maxima and EX to the Touchless car wash, it was my Maxima Leaking a bucket of water. My EX was not dropping water although i could feel some moisture under the glass/metal joint. I found out i had a roof and a glass gap of 3mms which is about 1/8 of an inch. I had a shower while my Maxima was having one.
Post Title: Re: Leaky Sunroof ! (rontek) Posted by:louis1800 at 9:29 AM 1/22/2009 Ok, we took possession of the EX for 3 weeks and living in the Chicago area has our share of snow/salt marinating the car. So, yesterday when the temperature is in the 30’s I took the EX for a spotless wash. To my fear that I have notice the sunroof is leaking and the water is coming in from the rear of the sunroof. It happen went the water jet is in the area. I will gather more info for the group.
It is upsetting to have a $40k vehicle to have a leaky roof!

I am still in the 48 hours/200 miles test period where one (supposedly), could still return the vehicle.
I took it to the pressure car wash based on your comments and sure enough, it leaked to a scary point!
It only has 300 miles on it!
Even thu the car is very well thought of, but what choice do I have? I have to return it back tomorrow.
Just think of it. You go on a trip and leave it for couple of weeks in the parking lot and it rains and rains and rains! What do you expect to get when you come back?
Or may be this car wasn't designed for this?? Duh!

That's a Bummer, eh ?
Kinda takes the Shine off the new purchase.
There are other people with this problem... some still have it and some have had it fixed.
If you feel the Car is still worth it, then take the time to get it fixed... if not, give it back, if you can.
My Dealership upon delivery gave me a Card to fill out, as well Infiniti mailed me a Card asking about the whole Buying experience. If they don't resolve this Leaky Sunroof for you either way, then let them know with a poor Rating on the Cards.
Good Luck !!!

Well, I went over to the dealership this afternoon, fully knowing they will try their best to keep it with me but I didn't budge. The issue was not simple.
The saleman was honest and straightfoward (my reason for doing business with them) and he said, We will try to fix it and I will personally get involved now.
I said, as long as I am given a new 48 hours to test it afterwards, it should be no problem. Otherwise, you could either give me a different one (they didn't have a similar one), or just take it back. He agreed and gave me a loaner.
Once they call me to check it out, I will take it straight to the carwash and the saleman can come with me for all I care. However, I am sure they have their own carwash and they might use that for testing.
Which reminds me, how did they fix yours? Like what did they do? Replace the seal??

I don't have a leaky SunRoof in my EX35.
Read the threads above by "Riker2k". He seems to be on the right track to a resolution.

I've been lurking for a couple months. I bought an EX back in November. I decided to register to give you some feedback on this.
My EX had the leaky sunroof. It didn't drench the inside, but in a car wash, one time it just had a few dozen drops come through, and one time it was basically a sheet of water, but all caught by the drip pan/guard underneath.
When I first brought it in, the technitian said that was normal, the drip pan was meant to catch leaks, and the seal was primarily designed to catch dust and rain, not seal against high pressure washes.
I had to bring it back to get the steering column replaced (tilt motor problem), so I let it go at that time, because I needed to get home.
While it was back in the shop for the steering column replacement and a few other things, I called the service manager and said I just wanted to discuss the sunroof leaking, and make sure it was normal. He told me he had been reviewing the ticket, saw that and went and talked to his tech (not sure if it was the same one I talked to) and when they examined the car, the rear part of the sunroof was about a 1/4" too low. He said since they just did some paint work, he didn't want to run it through the car wash, but if it still happened, to bring it back, and he would personally run it through a car wash with a tech to see the leaking and make sure it is fixed.
After they raised it, it no longer leaks in car washes. I have run it through twice, without even a drop of water leaking.
Good luck, and if you have trouble, make sure they look at the height of the rear of the sunroof, as others have also mentioned that as where the problem was.

Thanks for the msg!
If the leaky roof is by design, then we might be getting paranoid over it since it's not the usual thing we are used to.
However, the thought of getting water inside the vehicle when it rains, is what scares me the most.
I am supposed to pick-it up tomorrow. I will go straight to the car wash from there!

While the one tech told me it was by design, the service manager said it shouldn't leak and had another, more senior tech look at it and adjust it.
I would say if it leaks, it is out of adjustment. The back edge of the sunroof being too low.

To my fellow EX owners,
I have now had my Ex for 1 month and has tested the sunroof on 7 occaisions (Canadian winter brings a lot of salt and grime) in 3 different high pressure washes. I am pleased to report no significant leaks. On the second wash I placed my hand back between the head liner and the roof and felt moisture on foam pad. It did not drip or show any signs of being water logged. I have repeated the procedure 5 additional times and felt nothing.
I have also checked the roof alignment as suggested and find mine to be flush to the roof line. It seems logical that the problem may be related to poor alignment.
