Post Title: (how too) E-brake boot write up
Posted by: le_ryan at 12:32 PM 3/23/2007

Due to increased interest in how to make the E-brake boot, i've decided to make a write up on it.

Tools needed
- material of interest
- razor blade
- needle and thread / sewing machine / someone who knows how to sew, you get the point.
- marker

First

Pull the E-brake in the upright position, then grab a hold and begin by twisting it off side to side, in an upward motion, effectively pulling the rubber cover off.

Then lay the rubber cover on the material that you have chosen to use and trace the cover onto it. NOTE you must leave extra space on the bottom of the cover as shown, if not, when you pull the E-brake, it will show the lack of material, i gave it about 2 inches .
roughly mark an inch from the trace, the dotted lines shown. That will be your stitch line to follow, the another inch from that, a cut out line to follow.
NOTICE how far up i have marked where the boot will cover, durin installation onto the handle, your gonna want to fold about an inch, to two inches of that into the material itself to keep a clean look.

Now cut that out and flip it over then trace the outline of that cut out onto more material,

then cut it out as well.

now you have two pieces, lay them together with the material sides in and the backing showing on both sides. and sew your dotted lines, NOTE : the closer you sew to the outline of the handle that you traced, the tighter the boot will be on the handle ) .

If you have sewn it yourself, before you go any further, you must first chug a beer and and smash it on your fore head to achieve fellow manhood again.
once that is out of the way you free to begin installation of the boot onto the rubber cover.

Install by inserting the top of the handle into the top of the material while its still inside out.

Then begin pulling the material over the handle, right side out, leaving an inch to two inches at the handle, still inside out. notice that made the top look nice and tucked, to achieve that clean look.

OK, this is where it might get tricky, I wanted that crumpled look, but my material i had was too stiff, to get that look i pinched the material at the arch, and stuck in two zipties on either side of the stitch mark to hold that material crumpled, you dont have to do this, but it looks more natural if you do. I did it on both front and back.

here you can better see the zipties. NOTE how far down they are, you will not see them if you have your E brake cable tightened.

And this is how it will look when you finish

And then installed in the down position.

In the up position. NOTE if you have to pull your E-brake boot all the way up, and into the back seat to get it to engage, look at the front of the e brake while the cover is off, there a little 10MM nut in there that you can adjust the cable, to tighten it up, simply tighten the bolt down, you can set it how you like it, I like mine to only come up about 7 inches from the center council.

Enjoy !

Hey man, thanks for the how-to. This thing really cleans up that area. I also made a shift boot with the same material the other day. Starting to look like new!

Next up is the dash (cracked real bad) and then seats. Hopefully I make my interior as clean as Vroom's! I'm also going to be sending out my armrest tomorrow for padding and cupholdering.

looks good, little loose, easy fix though, yeah let me know when you send that lid out.
