I am trying to do everything right the first time...my moto being go big or go home hehee. WHOLE reason behind getting this car was Me previous car(2003 EVO) was modded alot 390AWHP and was a attention getter. I got hassled SOOO Much in my town(3 tickets in one week to be exact)with that car having to pop my hood constantly and being hassled for aftermarket parts. When I got a state referee ticket that was the last straw....Now I have a SMOG-exepemt car...put whatever I want on it and tell the cops to F off when they wanna gimme a ticket for a modded motor now.HEHEHE
previous evo;

full bride interior and cusco cage

And my car BEFORE THE EVO(first car actually)prob why went back to it..still have the love for the dimes

Intercooler was bought off ebay belive it or not. Good up to 500hp they claim. All I had to do was find the right dimensions, the end tanks needed to be facing inwards rather then coming out of the sides due to clearence. Its a 3" core which is kind of big but it fits PERFECT. Raditaor will be custom made.

Havent mounted the kit yet...waiting for the car back from paint to mount it. I will let you know though. But the qauality of the kit looks very nice

Got it from a friend who is a mad JDM freak..had an extra 6ft laying around lol. Also I got the black fabric to go on all the other parts wher the gradation wont be.

Thanks for the compliments guys....I will post pics as soon as its back from the booth. Gonna look TITS.

BTW heres some stuff im doing in the meantime;
Basically taking the factory sealed beams out...and putting in E46 M3 projectors in and 8k HID kit. This will be for the HIGH and LOW beams. I had to find a light that was 6" diameter, CLEAR front lens(no markings or anything) and was removeable. I searched and searched and finally ended up going to wally world and got a off the shelf "fog light" kit. Cut it all up, sealed it back for the projectors and BAM looks factory. PIcs;

HI- AND LOW

the back;

New VS stock; MUCHO BETTER!

Post Title:

That is going to be an amazing car! Great work thus far, can't wait to see it all come together.

Post Title: Re: (mesojdm)
Posted by: mesojdm at 8:02 AM 1/9/2007

Stopped by the body shop today for the first time..but forgot my camera, RATS! Anyways they are pretty much done with the welding/sanding etc and its ready for primer. I picked out the paint so they are going to order it(metallic blue from nissan reallllllly sweet in the sun imo). Also they are rolling the fenders so I will not have any issues with rubbing down the road. In the meantime I am doing little things example;
dash unit..custom installed 350z airvents, defi link tach(will go with all other defis that will be installed, BOOST<FUEL PRES<WATER TEMP<EGT) Still trying to figure out hoe to get the factory speedo working as it is mechanical and my s13 tranny is a wire. Debating weather to even keep the factory midddle gauge "fuel/ temp" but it is too small to throw a 60mm defi in. 52Mm MIGHT fit, ill have to measure.

Also...beefed up the diff. ALOT. Pics STOCK(r160 open) VS NEW(r200 LSD baby!)

WOW MUCHO BIGGER!
This diff is a rare find and anyone that knows what this is knows it can handle some major HP. I scored when I saw it on a local f/s add for cheeeep. It is also the LSD version(you can tell by the cooling fins on the cover) which was avail in 300zx turbo 88-91or something.
LSD FTMFW

I am going big so I will not have to worry about any problems down the road. Also this diff bolts into the factory location belive it or not, but I will have to go with custom CV' axles.
Will keep you posted whenI get some more pics:) stay tuned!

Post Title:
Posted by: evildky at 10:08 AM 1/9/2007

I would thingk the S130 turbo CV shafts and companion flanges would fit, might require swapping stub axles as well, I've heard complaints from some of the 510 guys taht the R200 is too heavy and hurts the ballance of the car?

Post Title:
Posted by: mesojdm at 10:50 AM 1/9/2007

Thanks for the reply evildky.
I am not really oconcerned about the weight of the r200(athough it is a heavy mo-fo!) Because I will need all the weight I can get in the rear to help with traction. I will have more then enough hp to make up for it:) Not sure what I am doin about axles..stilll researching. thanks

Post Title:
Posted by: ca18datsun510 at 4:37 PM 1/9/2007

you sure the diff fits? im pretty sure you have to mod the mustache bar.

as for the speedo, there is a speed senor from z31's that fits the sr/ca/ka trans, and its cable.

i believe its the 83-85 but im not %100.

look into it.

Post Title:
Posted by: evildky at 9:24 PM 1/9/2007

I kinda wondered about the possibulity of the complete rear crossmember from an S130, or at least the trailing arms, brakes, CV's and all

Post Title:

yes, you do have to modify the mostache bar.

I have a R200 LSD in my 510, and had to do that, along with cutting out a bit from the x-member too.
I went with custom CV axles

Post Title: Re: (datsunboy)
Posted by: mesojdm at 11:05 PM 1/29/2007

Where did you get the CV axles? Anypics? Thanks

Post Title: Re: (mesojdm)
Posted by: datsunboy at 1:45 PM 1/30/2007

the CV axles were just standard Nissan ones ( doesnt matter what car it came off, so long as its RWD, they should all have them same spline count and size ).
then I got a mate who's a CNC machinist, to cut it to the correct length, and re-machine a new spline onto one end of each axle.

we hardness tested them before and after, and the hardness didnt change at all.

I'll try get some pics later.

Yes all factroy stickers were still in tact in the engine bay. Unfortunetly i didnt want to risk seeing OEM "red" under the edges after its painted so I told the painters to remove them. Yes the whole interior will be bride..call me a whore but im just makin it match heres a teaser for ya-

B]UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picked the car up form paint today. It better then I could think of AND More! I am stoaked! These are just some pics in the garage but it really does not do the paint justice. In the sunlight it shows the metallic ALOT more and the paint just has alot of depth to it! At different angles the paint has a purple hint to it...i LOVE IT. Paint was a 2005 nissan/infinity color (g35 and other cars) I will get alot more pics updated now I have the car and can work on it. Later!

SHES IN!!!! welcome home:)

Houston we have a problem.....
Fuel rail is hitting the hood. AHHHH. My valve cover is about 1/4-1/2" from the hood. The fuel rail is about 1" to high. Any suggestions would be great. Different fuel rail? Different injectors? Speak up!

Shifter(stock..b&m should be here soon) Fits snug

ANd....with the cover

Anyone say dynamat?

Painless fusebox, sr wire harness, fuel pump relays, ignitor chip all tucked nicely into place. When the dash is on its hard to see it unless you look hard form underneath.

More room then I thought for the radiator. Going to get the crank pully machines off isince I have done away with A/c and P/S..which will make more clearence.

Body harness and Motor harness hid away becasue I want my engine bay CLEANNNNN. Motor harness will be under the intake manifold, body harness will be off the the very left hidden.

FMIC stickin out a Little bit but who cares. Also got some rubber surround so it doesnt rub. ITS TIGHT.. but I am still going to weld on some brackets

side view...paint is aweosmeeeee

thats it for now..... ENJOI!

BLing bling'n diff.

STOCK SUCKS

MY bros project;
CONVERTABLE 95 FORD AEROSTAR. YEs..the WHOLE TOP IS COMING OFF.. WINDSHIELD SHORTENED. MOTORIZED RAMP IN THE ABCK TO LOAD HIS/FIRENDS DIRT BIKES, AND GREEN ASTROTURF FOR CARPET WHEN IT RAINS.

Just tidying up the remaining wiring, fitting the dash pieces, making the seat brackets fit to my stock ones, I had to machine and tap a hub adapter for my wheel its 1/2 MOMO 1/2 My own creation. The momo stuck out wayyyyyyy too far so I cut it down. All the sound dampening is done and now its time for insulation. Still decing ond a fuel system I am probably going ot go with side feed:crap: but O well. the pics;

Insulation;

Seat fitted;.. seat #2 next.....

steering wheel on, you can see the custom double din housing I fabbed up, also the air vents and custom recessed DEFI tachometer

wheel off muahha best anti theft device imo;

and to conclude a rare little jem known as the Veilside titanium teardrop muffler. WOOT
hook a brother up!

finished the rest of the dash. Im debating weather or not this gauge setup suits this car. I had no other place to put them. suggestions, comments, questions?

Is the fuel rail hitting one of the reinforcement parts or the sheet of the hood itself?

Are u doing the R200 swap yourself? If so, or not, could you possibly document the process and post or email me the details? I am seriously considering either doing this same swap or doing a complete back half with either a ford 8.8 or 9" (leaning toward 9" due to the 'custom' factor). I have been doing research and it seems that the 9" takes a lot of hp to turn so it may be a bad idea so I am now entertaining alternate options (r200). Also, with the gauge setup, looks great to me, but it matters who you ask. Some people want that 'stock' look and dont want to put any holes in the dash pad. Personally, I like the race car look and would put the gauges right where you did. I will be posting pics of my dash soon (custom sheet metal).....some will hate that but as they say, 'different strokes, for different folks!' By the way, the car looks great!!

Looks hella nice, in my opinion, the guages look great except the stock speedo. With all the new guages and that one stock guage, it looks a bit out of place.... Defi speedo to match the tach would make it look great.
glad to see some1 do things right the first time around

Post Title:

Awesome!!
Gauges are fine, if you keep them the way they are now, simple and functional.
Do not altered the dash anymore, keep it classic.
I would paint the chrome faceplate on the tach to make it blend better with the cluster. Keep the OEM speedo!!
This 510 is going to be on Modified Performance and others, you my friend are upgrading a classic datsun the right way.....

What do you guys think of this??? The setup I have right now with my HIDS..they are BI-XENON(which means they have HI and LOW beam built in) SO I can do away with the inner lights if I wanted. I found this cool little scoop at a local autoparts store and put it in for temp see what how it looks. I am guessing its form and function? As my intake for the turbo will be right behind it/

FMIC done (after my 3rd one)its tight fit

end tanks for the intercooler fit PERFECT right up to the frame rails enought for a fairly large radiator

Smile your on canbdid camera haha my bro got me putting me headlight bezel in

HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY, I thought I was being original..lol. I put my headlights in last week and cam up with an idea that i will post in a few minutes. So what is similar about this????...check it out!!

[img][/img]

Have you been stealing my thoughts???? I moved my low beams in and use it to feed my intake and my oil cooler, which is just out of the frame to the left in the pic below and you can just get a glimpse of the intake on the right. So in my opinion.....looks crappy you should definitely change that setup ....just kidding, looks great!

Great 510

Hi all.. I also have the Datsport mounting kit on my SR 510.. I think it is great, haven't compared it with other mounting kits though.. I very satisfied..

This is a crazy project, but I guess, after selling an evo 7, after this project, you'll still have money to spare to spend on smoked tires.. Sweeeeeet.... Love the steering wheel..http://forums.nicoclub.com/zeropost?cmd=reply&id=2261821#

Turbo is a bit to big for my liking, I'm looking into either a GT2860RS, and maybe some camwork later on, or GT2871R with .64 A/R and 52 or 48 Trim Compressor

Any suggestions? My car is daily driven, so turbo response should be as instant as superhumanly possible, but still making around 350-360hp@engine..

Suggestions please???

Mark

Posted by: mesojdm at 6:22 PM 5/3/2007

^ I didnt really care too much about the driveability of the gt30r. I want big HP and a big turbo. Its going to be more of a show car. Have you fit the datsport kit yet? How high does your motor sit? I had to have my datsport crossmember removed and its being modified(cut down and rewelded) to make the motor sit lower. I am also using still nismo motor mounts though. Actually you would think i would have some left over $ for tires after selling the evo...but the fact of the matter is ive had to dig into my pockets for more $ just to finish this thing

Post Title: Re: (mesojdm)
Posted by: simarkbotak at 1:05 AM 5/5/2007

Hi, I didn't have any trouble with the crossmember.. fits nicely under the hood.. don't have tall fuel rail though.. still all standard S14 SR20DET.. It handles nicely for a street car, although I'm sure you have seen Tod Kaneko's 510 with the 13B.. Full custom chassis/suspension and rack pinion steering..

Regarding CV's, I think there is a place called TSR Fabrication or something owned by Mario Lozano who specializes in 510's, they fabricate a lot of custom stuff.. I think it's in CA..

I'm insanely jealous...just trying to keep the thread alive. What are the updates?

Post Title: Re: (mesojdm)
Posted by: simarkbotak at 9:49 PM 5/10/2007

I would leave the gauges on the dash, it's safer as you can still keep an eye on the road.. Not sure if defi produces speedometers, I would get one to suit the tach.. I'm sure the needle of the stock speedo would do a 360 if it could on the drag strip..

Let me know if you get bored of the seats,door trims,steering wheel,headlights,gauges LOL..

Where are the updates??

Wouldn't mind seeing the progress of the custom pick up either, any thread on this?

Mark

Posted by: evildky at 8:23 AM 5/14/2007

a little alte responding but did you get your hood clearance worked out? the injectors you're running look taller than the standard injecotrs, the older style I think are lower shorter and would give you a bit more room, and a trick used on the V8Z's is to put a spacer between the crossmsmber and the chasss, this effective lowers the engine as well as the lca's (reducing bumpsteer in a lowered car) and gives you extra hood clearance, and of course my choice would be to cut the mounts and or crossmsmber as needed and sit the engine lower

Hi Mesojdm..

Re: Crossmember, if the position of the engine is lower, did you also modify the transmission mounts and rear diff? I would suspect that it would change the whole geometry?

How did it go, is it done yet?

What diff are you using? I currently have a problem fitting an R32 Shortnose R200, lots of stuff has to be fabricated and changed, there aren't that many R200's around though, so that's the one I could get a hold of. Do you have any ideas regarding this? or Anyone?

Thanks,

Mark

I have not modified the diff or the tranny mount. I think thatt once the motor is lowered it will be in proper allignment from the tranny to the diff. *hope* lol. I am using a r200LSD long nose. It will bolt in with a custom mustache bar and the driveline will need to be shortened. I am not sure if I will be using the stock half shafts(modified of course) for the time being or shell out some$$$ for custom CV axles.

I have not checked on my car for a few weeks..so im nit sure if its been solved. HOPEFULLY lol.
In reality ive gone alot more then my budget(~20k) im actually coming up over the 30k mark. Which to most people..is absurd and think im mentaly unstable but jdm=MONEEEEY and doin it right.

I would definitely go to CV, especially with the GT30, you wouldn't want the halfshafts coming loose, and it'll give you peace of mind..

Well, I think I'll be hitting the 20k mark when I'm done, but it's well worth it.. The car is so much fun, even with stock SR.

Still no updates??

Hi Chucky, can't answer for Mesojdm, but my dp sits pretty low, especially since I lowered the front a bit to get more downforce at high speed.. Hit the flexible between dp and exhaust, both 3", almost on any speed bumps, so I need to take speed bumps sideways/at an angle..

Post Title:
Posted by: mesojdm at 6:06 PM 5/26/2007

so im ordering custom cv's for my r200. Pricey but I think will be worth it in the end. I think the kit uses porshe axles:? its a kit from wolfcreekracing.com

as far as downpipe goes..havent got one on yet. I have mocked one up and there will be tons of room for clearance, my log manifold puts the turbo pretty forward. The only TIGHT sqeeze is between the 3" d/p and my brake booster but I am fabricating a sheet metal barrier and have some high temp gold heat material to put on:)

Post Title: Re: (mesojdm)
Posted by: simarkbotak at 6:39 PM 5/26/2007

I'm sure the cv's should hold definitely beyond 400hp mark.. As long as you treat them with respect.. I have been able to chew 2nd straight cut gear on dogbox in a subaru with around 350hp.. Hehehe..

I was reading your post and thought brake booster, downpipe?? Hehehe.. Then realized.. LHD of course..

hey mate, just wondering how yopu went with the engine height, got alot of mates who used that kit over here, the way we get em to fit is reduce the size of the engine mounts that bolt to the bolt, we also run 1600 engine mounts, not the s13 silvia mounts

hope this helps some

Post Title:
Posted by: duffman1278 at 7:29 AM 8/29/2007

WOW this car is extremely cleeeaaannnnn. Congrats on that build. I planned on doing the same setup later on down the road. How did the cross members for the SR sit on the 510?

Post Title:
Posted by: Masterdebater at 9:38 PM 9/2/2007

sooo does the sr20 drop right in? no mounts needed or driveshaft? it may have been mentioned but this is a long post and i dont have time to read through it so im gonna ask :D lol

Post Title:
Posted by: S13Teddy at 10:41 PM 9/2/2007

well you need a crossmember for one.

Post Title:
Posted by: Masterdebater at 11:23 PM 9/2/2007

so a modified crossmember or just an s13 one

Post Title:
Posted by: S13Teddy at 12:32 AM 9/3/2007

I believe its a stock S13 Xmember and as mentioned, 1600 mounts let the engine sit lower.

But I'm not speaking out of experience so..

510 crossmemer, reversed.

custom trans crossmember.

Wow, mesojdm, the car looks great. If you dont mind me asking, why after such a detailed build are you deciding to sell the car?? It seems that you havent even had a chance to have fun in it yet.

I was suprised to see it on ebay, too. You put so much time, money, and effort into it and now you sell it.

i found this car searching on google trying to find an example of a full themed interior (such as this bride, or sparco). the car looks and is amazing. looked through this whole thread only to see that in the end it sold half a year ago . great car though.

What's goin on everyone, I'm new to the group. I don't really know anything about the datsun 510. i saw one on the speed channel on the hot import nights and saw the mods for it. It really just reignited my passion for cars. i really like the way the datsun 510 looks and i like that you can swap out for the SR20det pretty easily... well not easily but you know what i mean. I like the whole old meets new thing with the 510. So basically i wanna know everything there is about the 510. if there's any car clubs in the Los Angeles area that specifically cater to the 510. and if there are any books or mags that i could read to better understand the car? any suggestions?

Look into dimequarterly.com , 510realm.com , ratsun.com. You should be able to find info on whatever you are looking for.
