Post Title: carbon fiber hood...need hood pins?
Posted by: nismo1219 at 3:41 PM 12/3/2006

so i've had my hood on for about 3 and 1/2 months now and though it doesnt fit exactly like the stock one did, its not enough to bother me. anyways, my question is this... when driving at highter speeds like on the highway, especially when behind a semi, my hood seems to bounce a lot. i always just shrugged it off with the thoughts that since it was lighter the oncoming wind was having its way with my hood. i didnt worry too much cause i have always made sure it was securely fastened. but anyways, now im beginning to worry a bit more and thinking someday itll fly up and rip itself off. now i dont exactly like the look of hood pins too much, i prefer the clean look. so, my question is should i just get over it and buy a set of pins to secure the hood? what brand/company sells a good kit? my friend had a set on his sentra and they started to rust after about 2 months! will drilling through the carbon fiber pose any future problems? does anyone have any hood pins already w/some pics?? any info would be great, and once again - thanks for the help!!

Hood pins are recommended on cf hoods for the very reason you posted. I don't know of any brand names or anything, just look for a set that are stainless steel (or something else that won't rust).

Bungee cords are WAY stylin'. You can get them in all cool colors now. A few of them from the hood to the bottem of the bumper, and you're set!

Seriously...hood pins are the way to go.

i dont want aluminum pins cause they'll probably end up rusting. i saw some stainless steel ones. how do the "spring type" pins work? i dont think i have seen any of those before. http://www.cardomain.com/item/SPA01608

i saw these after a bit more searching. they are black powder coated and would probably look alot "sleeker" on a carbon fiber hood as compared to regular aluminum or stainless steel. http://www.hoodpins.com/order.html

The second link you posted, have some noce looking pins. I'd go with the powder coated or signature.

FYI, aluminum does not rust. It may tarnish after a few years in the elements, but that's fixed in a few minutes with some nevr-dull.
