1. Finish off my doors. Looking mad getto.
2. Return some tools to Home Depot after I finish my doors (hehe).
3. Score a MAF sensor somewhere...I think mine is bad (sorta boggy here and there).
4. Buy/Install some real buckets and a freaking small cage. No more getto harness strap mod.
5. Wheels...I dunno yet...something wide I guess....maybe some knockoffs.
6. Paint! (after I get some $$$..
)
and of course, all the while...get some practice time on enough weekends as I can...

| what? Oh, like you guys don't rice out once in a while...sheesh... this damn key mod took me an hour. Damn. |
1) Learn how to read japanese and place an order online, and buy this:
http://www.wisecart.ne.jp/snapon/7.1/SIMGKW/
2) Learn how to make your own - getto version. Which is probably better, since...uh...at least I use a REAL snap-on keychain.
a) Buy a "stubby screwdriver" from Ebay. Make sure it's branded SNAP ON. But hurry! if you check ebay, you will see that most bidders are ricers like me. You don't understand how much competition I had bidding with guys like "acu-boy1" and "HondaPwns".
b) Put the screwdriver in a VISE, then using a mallet, tap the rubber part off. This is what you will use - discard the actual screwdriver.
c) Take your existing car key, put that in the VISE, and using a saw tool (I used a small circular saw...kinda looks like a dremel..but with a bigger wheel) and cut off everything about the key, except for the part that actually goes in the ignition slot.
d) Heat the remaining key up, then jam that sucker into the opening left on the SnapOn Screwdriver. Alt, you can place the key on a VISE, then place the rubber part on top of where the key end would go in - then tap from above with a mallet. Make sense?
e) Go to home depot - buy one of those rings that look like a question mark. Drill a small hole into the other end of the snapon rubber, then screw that ring in.
voila.

Alright, all jokes aside - I commend you for at least responding. I probably would have done the same thing - had I seen the same posts everywhere as well. However, what I failed to mention (and perhaps this is my bad), is that I actually requested this from a) This forum's mod, Eikon and b) Greg (AZhitman) himself.
Got it?

a) Randomly did a check for vert boot. Found it. Reaction: OMFG.
b) Snuck around my house, got my wallet, then scurried back into PC room.
c) Did the Buy It Now - and glee'ed happily as I felt I "1 up-ed" my fellow vert buddies.
d) Then realized I was a loser for feeling so gleeful - as my vert buddies, are online buddies. Sheesh.
ha, I'll take some pics when it gets here (should be tomorrow).

1. Megan Racing brackets - like 99 bucks or something on ebay
2. 2 sets of sparco side mounts - paid about 50-60 a set, shipped. Again, ebay...and I had to wait for these prices.
3.Sparco Evo 2 seats - they come in evo size, evo 2, and evo xl for you real large fatties. This set I copped for $450! Practically new, no rips or tears. Only thing I hate is the color.
1. So, the side mounts suprising fit on the megan brackets, only problem is: The seat is not normal size (at least the base), so I had to slot out the openings on the side mounts and the bracket. I kept doing this trial and error, little at a time...since the less I need to slot out...the stronger the bracket should be. Also to guage how much I would need to do this before I butcher the passenger set. Here are some pics:

Finished set
Afterthoughts: Maybe it's my car...or just the pair of brackets I had...but just FYI: I had the hardest f'ing time mounting the entire assembly back into the car after I was done. The "240sx megan bracket" didn't seem to line up anywhere with the bolt holes on the floorpan. So, I had to mallet here and there...and even use an impact wrench at one point. the result: A slightly tilted seat. Anyways...after this wednesday I'll come back to look at it. Besides, tilted right is not so bad anyway...since I'm always leaning my elbow on the center console. It just looks madddd gay from the back though - you can tell the seat is tilted.
also fyi: Even on the lowest setting, I still feel the seat is a bit higher than stock...even with the cushions out. For those of you who don't know...I tried using a set of nagisa rails before which was impossible with a wide seat like this. Again, I'll come back to this height problem later.

OMG!! I SOOO needed that pic! I was gonna post a thread about that soon, but you've answered my question! I had the MT conversion done and when I got the car back, the key wouldn't release from the ignition. (Car doesn't register it's in "park"). There is no way in hell I am leaving my car sit *anywhere* with the key stuck in the ignition, even if I *do* have a Viper security system. EFF THAT! THANK YOU!!

How could I say no? That said - I hate these to hell and I don't want them. Nick/Matt @ autoxtreme are always throwing comments about them and (p_ssy coilovers) and honestly, I couldn't agree more.

1. I decided to go with a nice 6 point (halo...etc) b/c a) I needed the stiffness (insert viagra joke now) and b) the rollover safety factor.
2. There's a few guys I could have got this done from...I opted to commission my buddy Tim to do this b/c:
a. He comes well recommended
b. I wanted to help the dude out with $$$ while he is starting his own fabrication business.
c. I absolutely knew he would do a fantastic job since his credibility is on the line.
3. I didn't get the PZC (george aka dukeboy) to do it specifically b/c I chose to help a brother out first (i.e. Tim). That being said, the PZC cages are awesome too (shout out to Chris).
4. Also, as some of you know - I got my seats redone again...since the way I mounted them were shi@t.
Ok, so without further ado...here are some pics (note: the angles of the pics are not that great...so don't be fooled - the seats are not too low - trust me).

Car should be all done this weekend - ready for rippin next week!]
PS: See you all at the next NJ E-town drift event next wednesday!

Post Title: Re: (wirelessalpha)

Anyway, for those who don't know me, I'm Tim, I own TIP Engineering and am the one building Chi's cage. I'm excited, this is the first vert that I've done. It's a toss up which is easier a vert or a coupe, but the vert should be a lot cooler, well at least you can play around on the monkey bars a lot more with a vert.
Here's the rest of the pics of the cage. The door bars and roof bar are in, the dash just needs to be fitted and then everything can go back in and Chi can get whatever else he needs to get ready for doing the drifty on Wednesday. Anyone who's local should come out the event is going to be aweomse. You can come see the cage, the DA guys are going to be there. So come out and drive, it's always cool to see more people out there.
Oh and before the pics, I'll repond to some of the comments. Keeping the back interior panels would probably make things a lot harder than it needs to be. To keep them, you would have to space the main hoop in even further than it already needs to be on the vert. The main hoop is something like 5" thinner than the coupe/hatch main hoop already. So with the panels you would need to move it in even further, which would require the door bars to have an even more extreme bend than you see on Chi's car. Of course this would depend on how you want the door bars to fit and what seats you're running. Chi's seats are a little wider than most, so the door bars needed to be bent further out than if he were running a smaller seat.
But be keeping the panels and putting a bigger bend in the door bars, you would be moving the center of the x even further back. I just don't think it would be worth it.
I don't think there's really much else though. I'll either post pics or let Chi do it after the dash gets fit up and everything else goes back in the car. So sometime tomorrow afternoon/evening they should be up.
Anyway, picture time.

How much would the same setup come out to with out the door bar's? more or less i would like to know to have an idea. i know that your really far away.
non the less this thing looks sweet...
Post Title: Re: Re: (madcowvert)
Posted by: Wiisass at 2:44 AM 8/24/2007
As for pricing, it would depend on how it was done. It's going to be a lot of extra work to either design the cage around keeping the interior stuff or fitting up all the interior panels after, so I don't really know how much I would charge to do it. But fitting up all the panels would definitely negate the money saved from not running door bars and then some.
Anyway, here's the pics from tonight.
All done.
