Hey guys has anyone heard or have ever popped out the black thing in the pignose front bumper (right one in the middle of the s13 pignose) and put a funnel type deal to push more air at the ram air?

If not maybe i shoud figure out how and make a write up.

Ram air intakes are like cold are intakes. Cold air intakes are usually placed in the fender well area, which brings in a cooler charged air from beneath the car (outside of the engine bay), which is denser and therefore creates more power. The piping is a lot longer than a short ram which means the power gains are not seen until the mid to higher RPM band. A short ram intake is located inside the engine bay and creates power with better response times than a cold air, however the air is not as dense, which means that it doesn't make as much power in the upper RPM region and makes less power overall.

you will have to cut the bumper the plates are just a plastic peace i was going to cut mine and make air division plate to run to the rad to keep that cooler

i've had my bumper off and thought about removing those, maybe put some mesh grill there. it could help flow more air to the radi and it would look diffrent.

i think the reason no one has done it yet is because the gains are completely negligible.Also when you consider the amount of work you are doing to gain some 0.02342bhp it ends up feeling like a waste.

Ur better of getting some tubing an DIY'n a Ram air intake.

we had my bumper off doin some some stuff one night, anyways, the way to do what you ask is to get a bottle of 1800 and a dremel.after i did this everyone asks how much power/much more cooler temps does the car have lol

Haha, don't need the lesson on the intakes. This kid made me go to some retarted nissan meet full of sentra fanbois who kept using the words "pop charger" and "ram air" when talking about their "mods". So whenever I hear those stupid terms it pisses me off. I actually have a "ram air" on my 240, it absorbs all the heat from my aluminum radiator and I really wish I had a stock intake to replace it with.

yes this would be bad a**, and i wanted to add a little engineering to your build( ) maybe you could fit an eletric supercharger(pop charger ) and have a super charged ram air'd nissan sohc 240. ohhhh im having an orgasm, sheww. keep us posted man

Ok so yes, this can work... Toyota Paseo has this to help suck in colder air from out side.

One thing to consider, how much space is between the hood and the frame bar, if there is no space you won't be able to put it in there. another thing to consider is the fact that it'll be better as a sealed system, which will force the air to the engine. another thought would be to get rid of the filter box too. making a smoother system that runs more directly over to the air intake manifold. Clearly you'll still need to create a space for an air filter though.

Unlike most people on these forums, I applaud your efforts and creativity. In fact I would challenge you to attempt this, I would like to see what you would come up with.

run the intake through the inner fender where the factory i/c piping runs, that will ellow you to get colder air at least

I have cut mine out for greater cooling. It's basically a straight shot to the radiator from the nostrils. Since the lower opening is stuffed full of intercooler, I figured any extra air I get would be beneficial.

I'm really contemplating cutting out the center like you did, twisted. Probably should have done that before the bumper was installed, oh well.

Cut them out and see if it works for you, then show progress. About the only benefit I can see from it is that the radiator gets more air with a front mount intercooler. Otherwise, especially with a ka24e engine, your not gonna se any reall HP gains, "ram air" or not. But like I said if you would like to cut them out, then do it...

hp wise no probably not alot of gain but keeping the bay cooler is a definite. always good with lower temps. MS Paint FTW!!!
