Whaal, whaal EcstaSPT, show me what you got. Ever wonder why concept cars have big size wheels, not saying mine is but simply saying, it makes the car look nicer.

Simply throwing 22's on a car does not mean it necessarily will look nicer to everyone who sees it. Your suspension doesnt match your wheels and you look like to made a terribly uneducated guess at "pimping your ride". Sorry to inform.

Hey the_sauce..

I have the same set up and you obviously do not know what you are talking about. Ive been running the same set up for over 6K miles and in terms of suspension, ITS FLAWLESS. It has actually improved the ride and handling. So i strongly disagree with your point.

And in terms of "pimping your ride".... 20's or 19's DO NOT fill the wheel well of an M. Yesterday I pulled up next to a tiny BMW Z coupe with STOCK 19's on it. The Germans understand what real driving means. They build a better machine than the infiniti for a reason. I dont think id disagree with their engineering of 19"s on a miniature Z coupe.

Not to mention, the BMW M5 which is essentially the same class as our M has a dealer option for 22" rims. Now anything larger than 22's would be pushing it and look bad.

I recently sold a set of 20" rims that were on the M for a little becuase they were horrible in terms of look. You can shove your head in the wheel well.

the_sauce check this out -

I now have a better ride when I went from 19's to 22's.

Think about it, you probably rolling on 19's right now, thats the size that the 370z comes with, now compare the size to an M?.

Just like ATSELLAB explained to you, had they been 24's ..... that would be of concern, but 22's nah dawg, they alright !

Thee, by far most important factor is that you guys love your wheels. That's all that matters, really. Don't be defensive or offensive. Just enjoy your rides.

My opinion on your wheels? Hell who cares???? Enough on that!

Wheels--really to a extreme amount, can totally change the look of a M35. You can easily worsen or improve the looks...especially with the aggregate opinion of this board-which tends to be on the conservative side.

Add to the wheels, type of tires which in themselves have the same control wheels have on looks on things like handling, ride quality, noise and much more. Then add to that a diameter change to both tire and wheel, offsets, and weight, no wonder the conservatives are up in arms.

They (probably the most intelligent amongst us), have very legitimate concerns for us. Are they warranted? Time will tell. In the mean time, just enjoy your 22's while rollin' large and in charge.

If in time your ride quality degrades to the point you can't stand it, just lie like what you did when you said "my ride quality improved going from 19's to 22's".

With the same rolling circumfrence, you have 1.5 inches less tire sidewall (38% less) and a heavier wheel + tire combo. With all other things remaining equal, that statement of "rides Better" makes no sense at all.

This is why true luxury cars like the Lexus LS, which has a larger wheel base by 8 inches, weighs 850 pounds more, way longer in length over M35's have 18 X 7.5 inch wheels with 235/50 tires. That's 4.6 inches of tire sidewall. At 80 G's trust me to sell more cars if that were not so, they would have 22 inch wheels to achieve maximum ride quality.

Enjoy the wheels but lets be reasonable in our defense.

honestly tho, If you never had stock and just rode with the 22's, you would think the ride on the 22's was just as good. Its not as rough as you would think. Im not being offended, its just the truth. I would NEVER go back stock or even to 20's. Ive done/had 20's.

Im also just trying to tell you all that 22's is not toooo large or ghetto like people are tying to make them out to be. Thats why I use the example of BMWs. Its not like im going to take my rims off becuase of someone on a forum...haha

wow, so when I went from stock 18s to 20s on my M45x and noticed a marked decrease in ride quality, maybe i should go up to 22 and give up even more sidewall to get back to a BETTER ride quality then stock? LOL

Exactly! Now you got it. You see, there is a optimum wheel to tire sidewall ratio that cancels out road imperfections. German Scientist & physicist alike marvel at how less (sidewall) is more in the case of 22 inch wheel.

Right as we speak, the airlines industry-Boeing in particular, are working on a forged 22 inch wheel for Jumbo jets noting that customers will be over-joyed at the soft landings. In a test conducted on July 4th,2009 some passengers did not realize the plane actually landed until they looked out the window.

They first took notice and discovered this phenomenom while searching the NICO board. Gigatt and Atsellab will be honored and credited for this new technology. J/K

its gonna be hard to find anyone on most car "enthusiast" forums that will agree with the big wheel thing. Most people for each car have what they think is a "safe" size to go up to. You will hear things like : NO WAY MAN THOSE BIG WHEELS ARE GONNA AFFECT MY RIDE QUALITY or perhaps OMG! WOW THOSE TIRES HAVE SUCH A SMALL SIDEWALL IDK IF I'M GONNA BE ABLE TO NOT RUN OVER A POTHOLE EVERY DAY SO THEY DON'T BEND. Ive been a member of tahoe and escalade forums and people there complain about 22's. You just have to remember how many more compliments you get with your wheels than when you rode stock or even on those small 20's

ok. scratch the whole ride thing. My point was that if u didnt have the stock and just rode 22's you wouldnt at all think the ride was at all bad or too noisy. BUT LIKE I HAVE STATED A MILLION TIMES, THE ROADS IN WASHINGTON ARE NICE AND NOT ALL MESSED UP LIKE ALL THE OTHER STATES. IVE SEEN OTHER STATES, THEY ARE BAD. LIke I said before, ive done normal driving for over 6K miles and no bent rims or problems, no rubbing, no weird tread loss.

But im sticking to my guns on the look, bigger wheels to fill the wheel well is better. 20's are too small for the car.

I think it also speaks when Ive had over 20 people want to buy my other 22" rim set I was selling from this forum alone. Someone in Florida now owns them.

Depends on the roads if 22s ride well. You are on rubber bands now. 20s is larger as I would go. I always stay a plus size down from the max wheel size on all my vehicles. It does take its effect on the suspension parts like it or not along with brakes. Did I even say weight is also a factor and a big concern when you go with cast wheels. Thats my 2 cents BTW 22s look good if you ride stock height IMO. Lower that thing and ride 20s MUCH better look. One more thing. Performance driving is gone also think about that one. Now you just have a cruiser.

Now I have to come to ATSELLAB's defense. Because he is running 255/30/22's in tires-which ups the sidewall to 3.0 inches(sidewall only down 23%), and therefore sporting a BIGGER circumfrence by 4.9%(speedo way off but helps ride quality as well), his ride quality degradation is a fair amount less than I originally thought. This is why the car looks like it is dropped.

Furthermore it's a 2 piece forged wheel(7 pounds heavier). With tires(29 pounds) I estimate him at 62 pounds. Bad, but not nearly as bad as it could be with 22's.

He also has the V8, so he's no slouch. Braking...well lets just say make sure he does not tailgate you or your loved ones.

I must say it looks nice and ghetto...and BMW wheels look much better than the look your going for and matches the car appropriately and I didnt know BMW offered anything more than 21in factory wheels as an option

I dont notice the "LACK" of stopping at all on the 22's. This is the wife's car and I just asked her in the kitchen, she doesnt notice anything either. If anything she says its sticky and very touchy braking.

I can tell 07sportm35 is a little way too into this, busting out the calculations and all.

Its about the drivability of the vehicle not about statistics. Im just trying to relay the "ACTUAL" experience for others who may be interested in 22's.

And listening to someone elses "statistics" or opinion on how he may "think" the car would function doesnt do the car or rims justice.

I once again asked my wife how she feels the car functions with the 22's compared to the stock, she once again says she doesnt really notice. Its her everyday car and knows it almost better than I do.

Please except my sincere apologies. Just having some fun with it. Enjoy your nice looking wheels. I bet she handles beautifully. I won't say anything else in regards to your wheels (I know I have said too much already).

22" is too big, IMHO. The design is nice, but they look too large.

Also adding that much extra unsprung weight is simply counterproductive to everything dynamic that this car is about. How much do they weigh?

But to each their own. These same wheels in 20" would look better.

And like others have said, the car needs suspension mods to lower the ride height.

You sound intelligent.

So why does your opinion count, and others don't? Is it because we don't possess the grammar skills like you?
