This is the engine air-filter for your M35, correct?

easy to do. Order the part online, the same year Nissan Z filter will also fit, price is cheaper.

1. open hood.2. carefully remove engine cover (2 clips, pop and slide out)3. unclip the air box cover4. take out air filter (check if dirty, etc) make sure not to let any crap get in teh box when you have the filter out.5. take new air filter out of box6. slide new air filter in7. put every thing else back in...

done....

I usually do this myself as well...

You can get the filters at any local auto store. The engine filter is easy as pie, you just open the hood, open the air box, take the old one out, and put the new one in.

The in-cabin microfilter is a tad more difficult, and it requires you to dismantle parts of your car. I don't know where it is on the M, but i know for my car I have to unscrew the glovebox and remove it to gain access. The dealer/someone else usually charges upwards of $90 to do this - for the 30 min time its much cheaper to do it on your own.

Same place for the M.. Gotta pull the glove box assembly, but not overly complex after you do it once.

As mentioned before, you can pick up the filter at most parts stores; I buy bulk online and saved me a couple of bucks.

Replacing the engine air filter is really straight forward, and it really only fits in there one way (tab facing up). I strongly recommend using factory air filters. I have seen a rash of Ms having an issue with MAF sensors using aftermarket cheapo filters as they either do not fit properly or have a larger hole diameter allowing more particulate matter to bypass the filter.

The micro filter is pretty easy on the M. If you open the glove box and grab the top of the lid and gently pull up. This will unlock the lower retainers (snaps). After this you will need to pull it out at an angle and remove the tension line on the right side of the box. Once you have the cover off you will see a cover in the top right section of the rear of the housing. Simply put your fingers in the hole and push back slightly and pull down. Once the cover is removed you will see a while box behind it, Gently apply tension to the right clasp and pull out to reveal the filter. When installing the new filter make sure it is facing the correct direction for optimum airflow and filtration. Be careful when putting everything back together as the tabs can break pretty easily.

The best place is

OEM filters are better than 95% of the filters sold at retailers, especially at the IoS price. I also like their M1 oil filters and crush washers at a great price over stock.

Ask about the activated charcoal for the cabin filter. If you have the cooled seats, replace that one annually also.

It's located in the fan assembly under the seat bottom. I see so many people neglect these filters and have performance concers. You would actually be surprised the amount of dust, debris, and crap are lurking under the seats.

I have actually only performed a few of these filter replacements and the easiest way to replace them that I have seen is to remove the four bolts holding the seat down and tilting it backwards. You may be able to reach under there when the seat is in the full bottom lift position, but I have never tried it. I like to get under the seats every once and a while to retrieve things under the seats as the fit is pretty tight on these, I always but the change and stuff I find in the cup holder.

On the 03-04 units with cooled seats. I see the filter under the seat & it's not too tough to get to.

Can someone describe the throry of operation to me? For example, I think the cooled seats draw air from the seating surface and out the underside of the seat, right?

So why does a filter need to be in the exit of the (hot) airflow? Is it just filtering for particulate matter it finds on the seat surface and sucks through and filtered so it is not released into the cabin?

Mine was pretty clean after 4 years anyway...

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it uses a Peltier heater/cooler plate attached to a fan assembly. Basically when you apply electricity in one direction, one side of the plate gets hot and the other side gets cool. If you apply electricity in the other direction, the hot side now becomes cool and the cool side becomes hot. More info here http://www.heatsink-guide.com/peltier.htm

So depending on if you want warm or cool you apply electricity a certain direction, then a fan blows air across the plate and up through the holes in the seat. I believe air always blows up through the holes, not back down and out the bottom of the seat.

I don't think the heated seats use the seat fan at all. Am I wrong or were you describing that it did.

(Maybe my heated seats are supposed to use the seat fan & don't?)

Also, my seat cooler draws air into the seat, not out of the seat. It seems to work pretty well.

Am I dreaming on this?

this would be a good write-up if someone could put it together with pictures and such. I just had my filter replaced not too long ago but think this would be helpful when it comes time to replace it again.

HAHA!!

I will suggest someone here can make a video clip and upload it to youtube, about how to change the cabin filter. That will be more helpful.

Check page 2-24 and 2-25 in the owners manual. It describes the seat blower as blowing warm or cool air up from the surface of the seat.

This is the easiest access to the air filter I've seen in any of my cars, but unfortunately I was sent the wrong filter by Circle Infiniti in NJ. I plan on doing the in-cabin filter ...only after they verify I have the right unit.I'd hate to go through the process of dismantling the glove comp. and find out it's the wrong one!

I guess just looking at the engine compartment got me hesitant to not mess up anything "expensive" - I'm over that now!

Thanks again!

BTW - Circle charged me $10.50 for the engine air filter and 26.00 for the in-cabin with 6.00 for shipping(UPS) .... Infiniti of Santa Monica's prices were about 2 and half times Circle's!

Thanks for the suggestion I will take car of it and post it in our Infiniti Articles section and pass on a link here. It might take me a couple of days I need to wait till I get one of each model and good enough pics to post up.

On a side note if you guys have any other requests for write ups feel free to let me know you can email me or post them up, that's one of the things I get to do here.

I have a set of filters free of charge!

I now have the correct air filters for the engine and the cabin, but have no use for the previous set! 2003/2004 are different from the 2006-2008!These appear to be 2006-2008 items for M35/M45; 27277-EG025 and 16546-EH000.I'll even cover the shipping charges (cheapest service though) ... so let me know. First person who replies gets them.

My generosity is due to a LEO forgiving my exceeding speed today!

Is this for an 06-08 M35 engine air filter? If so, do you know the part # for a common brand of filter? I went to the local place, where they carry Fram filters. I couldn't find one in their book for this car! Most every other Nissan with the 3.5 uses a XX4309 (where XX is the particular line of filters) so I took a chance and got one of these...doesn't fit! Paid $17 from the dealer for an OEM one.

IoS is having a 10% off their already 25% discounted prices. They also have great deals on M1 oil filters.

Most 3rd party cannot come close to OEM, and the few that can are more expensive. Stock up now and change annually.

In regards to the M35's "In-Cabin Microfilter" which sits behind the glove box...

Here's the post I made at another forum

[i[Edit by Mod: Please get the information and post it here directly. Thanks for understanding!

If you don't want to sign up on the forum, you can try viewing the pictures I uploaded to my Flickr account:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/32902809@N ... 270/detail

The pictures should help either way...it is really not that difficult.

As for the intake air filter...it is like a 1 on a difficulty rating of 1-10...and I know close to nothing about cars...just open up the hood, remove the plastic "dust cover," look for a large "rectangular" shaped box with 2 metal clips on it...unclip and remove filter & filter holder.

i have the DVD navigation system on my 2006 M35, instructions were the same still...a tool to help pop off the "travel cable" is the only optional item (it can be popped off with your hands too)

here's my attempt with the pictures, i tried to show the parts that need extra attention (i.e. - cable, hanging stops, filter door)

don't blame me if you follow these instructions/pictures and damage your own car

Thanks http://www.flickr.com for the picture hosting.

left hanging stop and right hanging stop

i found it easier to pop off the "travel cable" while the glove box drawer was still attached (when putting back on, i found it easier to re-attach this first before re-attaching the left and right hanging stops)

not sure if there's a less barbaric way of removing the hanging stops (left one first, then the right one) Notice where the "travel cable" attaches to underneath the right hanging stop

After removal, the left and right "rails" that hold the glove box drawer (notice the detached/retracted "travel cable")

Remove the door to the filter door (lol!) You can easily tug on the bottom "hinges"

ok, so here's the deal with the proper removal of the inner air filter door.

1.) pull RIGHT tab out slightly (right picture above)2.) with the door slightly ajar and enough to come out of the black colored outer plastic, pull/SLIDE the entire door sideways towards the RIGHT SIDE

if you didn't stress the 2 left hinges too much by opening the filter door too wide (past necessary to get out of the black part), then the door should remove fine

bottom line, don't "pry' the inner air filter door open too much or the left hinges will break off!

inner air filter door removed

when putting the inner air filter door back on, try raising the actual filter with your finger so that the plastic ramp-like tabs on the back of the door will fit underneath the filter when the door is snapped closed

Please see this from the FAQ (link is above) to see why we disallow this:

My post / thread disappeared - What happened?

While the NICO Administration tries very hard to avoid censoring or removing posts, posts or threads can be removed for any number of reasons. The most common reasons are:

1) Linking to a forum that competes with NICO. While this may seem silly, NICO exists due to the enormous flow of traffic that enters the site. Without this, the resource would cease to exist.

The point is that there is a good reason! I also edited your earlier post ... please post the information here in a thread directly, then we don't have to worry about it at all.

Thanks for understanding and welcome to NICO.

P. S. I understand your comment about the word "re-post". Sems silly to me too (had to do with people jumping all over previously posted threads in our General Chat forum - a bit of a wild and woolly area - but seems a bit over the top to me to do this in all our forums). I will take that up with our Admins - will not necessarily get a resolution, but I will ask.

Thanks szhosain, I don't necessarily have a major problem with the policies in place, it just makes it that much harder for me to have to re-create the same post in these forums when I already spent the time to post in another forum. It also discourages me from "helping" because I don't necessarily have the time to re-post. (i do have the time right now, so I'll edit my post and insert the images)

I understand the need to restrict some things in the forums to combat forum trolls and general bad behavior...unfortunate a few bad apples ruin it for everyone.

This issue should now be fixed. Let's test: repost.
