Is there a way to know how many pounds per minute of air a turbocharger will output? I was told that my T25 can pump 22 pounds per minute of air. It was explained to me that a turbocharger can support 10 horsepower for every pound per minute of air that it outputs. According to this information my T25 can support 220 horsepower roughly which seems about right for such a small turbocharger. I want to get a turbocharger that will pump a greater number of pounds per minute of air, however I don't know how to find that information while shopping for my new turbo.

Where are you shopping? Most places list the cfm, unless it's ebay. Unless you're getting a GT series turbo, then a t25 is to small for the KA.

yeah most turbo sites have the specs of the turbo....

a t25 ist too small wd, its more like its range is too small. I loved the t25 setup, and already miss the early onset of boost. Dont get me wrong the t3 at half the boost owns the t25, BUT now waiting for boost while trying to drift is ghey, glad I can dew eet without hitting boost it kills my freind how a car with no power just wants to drift... he has an sr @15psi lol

also I get a hint off others with t3 that its hindering the speeds on a shorter track(auto x/ road race)

If you never want to increase the power beyond 180-200 whp then a T25 is fine I suppose. But if you want more power then it IS a restriction...period. Unless like I said, you're using a GT series turbo. But again, I'll use the T3/TO4 over the GT any day of the week and twice on Sunday. And I can buy anything I want with the left over $800 bucks...

Are you drifting at 2500 rpm? I don't see how your not in boost bro. This "waiting" for boost thing could be remedied with simply driving in a lower gear.

Thanks for the information guys. Do you know how to convert Cubic Feet per Minute to Pounds per Minute? Or do you know how much horsepower is supported for every Cubic Foot per Minute? I'm building the crap out of the engine so that I can start with a low boost T25 set up but when I'm ready for more speed and power I'll know the engine is going to hold together. I just want to know what gains a certain turbocharger will give me over another.

The maximum rated flow rate for a turbo is not an accurate way of determining how much power a turbo is to map it out on the compressor map. The peak airflow for a given turbo happens at a specific amount of boost pressure and would have to assume the motor will be able to flow that much at that boost pressure. When using a relatively large turbo on a smaller motor will generally result in a motor that will hit redline before it can pump that much air at that boost pressure.

CFM * .069=airlfow in Lb/min(lbs/min)/.069=airflow in CFM
