I went to my M this morning and it appears it was vandalized. The rear tail light has several large cracks with some cola sprayed on the truck. I filed a report with the sheriffs dept. in case I have to file an insurance claim. The dealer wants $238 for a new one and an hour for installation. My options - I could pay that, get one online and install it myself, or use this unpleasant situation for an upgrade of the complete rear set. Please let me know what resources are available for "upgrades"I would like the smoked set like a few members have on their M's but I wouldn't like the hassle of removing them for night driving - the last thing I need is another reason to be pulled over in L.A.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

It takes 5 mintues to install. Only 3 screws and unplug. I'll sell my old set for $100 with free UPS shipping.

Looks like you've already reamedied your situation...

If anyone else runs into this problem, I just found a wrecked out '03 M45 in a junk yard about 20 minutes from my house. The front end is smashed in pretty good and there's damage down the driver's side. Passenger side looks pretty clean as well as the rear. It was that light metalic green color with the beige interior.

I can't believe I spotted it going 50 mph past a junk yard with a (for the most part) privacy fence. I could only make out it's silloette at first and knew immediately what it was. I pulled over and checked it out through the fence.

I'm gonna check it out tomorrow when the place is open. Looks like most of the instruments have been stripped out and the air bags deployed. Kind of sad to see it there.

Hopefully there is at least one good rim on the car (the front one on the driver's side is trashed and the driver's side rear has some pretty big gashes in it)... I've got a rim with a flat spot on the inside lip I'd like to replace.

The tailights and the passenger side headlight look pretty good.

If anyone may need something, let me know, and I'll see if it's left / usable.

Andrew

Like I have always said: instantly recognizable on the roads. And, now, even through privacy fences!

I love the unique looks of the car.
